Grabbing his phone, Markus flicked through a few names and dialled Oliver’s number. “Where are you?” he asked when his friend answered the call.

“Give me five minutes.”

Markus raised his brows. “The groom’s having a hard time settling his nerves.”

Oliver let out a bark of laughter. “It’s his wedding day. Yeah, I’d be a little restless too. Do you have the rings? Katie will kill you, if you don’t.”

Although sure he did, panic rose within Markus as he rummaged through his pockets to retrieve the small box. “Yes, all good.”

“Okay,” Oliver replied. “See you in five.”

He hung up and gave Tyson, who was still pacing, a reassuring smile.

“Where the hell is he?”

“Wouldn’t say,” he said with a lift of his shoulder in a quick shrug.

“What do you mean he wouldn’t say?” Tyson shot him a glare. “You have the rings, right?”

Markus nodded.

defining moments

Erik did a slight step aside. “Oliver, this is my niece, Tamara. She’s moved here from Perth. Tamara, this is Oliver.”

Oliver extended his hand towards her. “Nice meeting you.”

Unexpected and, yes, a bit of a blow to his ego, she ignored his hand, taking a step back instead.

Surprised by her reaction, Oliver instinctively checked his hand for dirt or sweat, but with the lack of any, that couldn’t have been the reason for her reluctance. His coach’s check of the time told Oliver, that Erik was oblivious to the non-hand-shaking situation.

“Have your shower and see me before you head off to discuss your training schedule.”

Nodding his agreement, Oliver glanced at Tamara again and for a brief moment, their eyes met. The distant and empty expression in her gaze puzzled him. Mysterious, maybe even guarded. Why had she looked away so quickly? He got the impression, something was unsettling her considering that she stood behind his coach, arms wrapped around her waist in a protective gesture. The urge to ask her something, to get her involved in the conversation grew within him, but he had a blank so he simply left.

Excerpt

“I can’t believe you threatened Santa wouldn’t come if he didn’t go to bed,” Jarrett whispered as Marissa closed the door to Jason’s bedroom. “You’re a naughty girl for lying on Christmas Eve.”

She winked. “It worked last year and the year before.”

“I see. You’re naughtier than I expected.” He nibbled her earlobe until a sweet gasp escaped her mouth.

“Jarrett, wait. Not outside my son’s room. C’mon.” She dragged him into her bedroom and pushed him against the door. “You’re wearing too many clothes.”

“So are you.” He cupped her ass and dragged her up his body. Oh, hell. He’d never get enough of her. Those legs and her breasts—fuck. As she wrapped her long limbs around him, he seized her lips and pushed away from the door.

“The bed,” she mumbled the words against his mouth.

He laid her down and topped her. “Lift your arms, baby.” He jerked off her sweater and groaned. The overhead light cast a golden glow across her smooth skin and curly hair. A sexy red-and-green striped bra cradled her breasts. He licked one of her taut nipples from atop the fabric and moaned from the scent of sugar cookies.

Marissa gasped and arched her back, pressing her breasts against his face.

“You’re killing me.” He nuzzled her chest before sliding his hands to her back and freeing the bra clasp. Her breasts bounced free and grazed his chest. His cock throbbed so painfully against his zipper that he lurched forward and dry humped her.

“Like what you see?” Her mouth hitched up in a smile.

“Tease.” He glided his tongue across her other nipple.

“Yes, more.”

He stroked the curve of her soft bottom lip. She swiped her pretty pink tongue over his fingertip, trying to draw it into her warm mouth, but he pulled back and jerked off his shirt. After he stripped off his jeans and underwear, she pushed him down on the mattress and swirled her amazing tongue across his chest. Ah, fuck. His muscles bunched as she trailed her decadent kisses down his abs and upper right thigh, circumventing his needy, straining cock.

“Marissa, kiss him.”

Today’s Snippet

Staring, Markus DeLeon stood in front of Tyson. The guy definitely knew how to make a tuxedo look good. Markus’ mouth curved into a smile, though, when he saw Ty’s hair.

He cocked a questioning brow. “The hair?”

Tyson instantly raked his hand through it to mess it up a bit. “Grandma Hazel,” he griped through gritted teeth.

Markus wasn’t able to hold back a grin. “Did I just see an eye twitch?”

“Oh man, give me a break here, okay?” Tyson shot him a glare. “And where the hell is Oliver?”

Markus tried his best not to laugh, but failed miserably. He looked around the small room in the back of the church. It was furnished with only two bookcases, a desk with a chair, and a small sofa.

He sat as he watched Tyson pacing up and down the small room. He’d known his friend for over twenty years, and Ty’s eye twitch was enough proof that he was nervous. Markus couldn’t remember seeing Ty so tense in…well, ever. Not even before any of his important football games. Then again, it wasn’t every day that one married a gorgeous girl. And despite Katie’s best efforts to keep it a low-key event, the media was already present outside the church.

Oliver cursed through gritted teeth, irritation rising within him. “It’s not going to happen. My shoulder’s killing me. It’s been a long day.”

Coach Erik Becker rubbed his face.

“It’s not going to happen today,” Oliver persisted.

“Right.” With a grimace on his face, his coach accepted Oliver’s decision. “Call it a day. But I want you on the field again in the morning.”

Oliver eased off his gloves and shoved them into his back pocket, before removing his helmet.

His coach gave him a gentle slap on his back. “I need you to concentrate more tomorrow. Remember what I told you. You need to focus on your proper stance as well as swinging the bat. Keep your eye on the ball as it comes towards you. Try to connect the bat with the ball, preferably at the fat of the bat. We have a game coming up soon.” He paused for a beat, then added, “Go and deal with the shoulder issue. Check in for a massage.”

Oliver wiped his forehead with his arm when he noticed a woman standing in the coach’s shadow. Raising a questioning brow, he nodded towards her as to ask who she was.

A knife stuck in his chest couldn’t have been more painful than her words. He didn’t want to interpret her comment as a bad judgement on her father so he pushed it aside.

“I can’t really say I’ve never lied—”

She stopped so suddenly, the distance between them was so minimal he could’ve moved the tiniest bit to touch her lips with his.

“You’re a liar?” she asked a bit louder and in the silence the words thundered through the small room.

Where the hell … “No,” he emphasised. “I’m not lying now.” He paused and added just above a whisper. “It came out the wrong way. I wanted you to know that I wouldn’t lie about something like this.”

She gave him a small nod and let out a sigh. “Okay. I’m sorry. I’m a bit on edge.”

Was it really the thunderstorm that scared her?

defining moments

Oliver Dempsey wiped away the trickling sweat on his face with a brush of his sleeve. The cool sweat on his back soaked his shirt, causing it to stick to his skin. He’d been on the field for a couple of hours now, frustration growing in him with each missed ball. Taking a deep breath, he leaned forward and rested his hands on his knees, his stare fixed to the ground. Damn it, he was a pitcher and not a hitter, well known for his fastballs and his perfect curveballs. As it was, he had only himself to blame by neglecting his hitting. Today, his swing was below average, and, unable to focus, he walked over to the bench where he spotted Coach Becker shaking his head towards him, pointing his finger towards the field.

“Head right back out, Oliver. You need to improve your hand-eye coordination. I want to see more, and better.”
