#SnippetSunday – “He doubted his decision again” – #romance #readAustralian #bookteaser

Hello and  thanks for stopping by.

Thanks to everyone stopping by last week and a special thanks to those who left a comment. I really appreciate it.
Today’s snippet is in Jesse’s POV.

Enjoy ♥

When they arrived a little while later at home in Beauty Bay, Dana went straight to the backroom she used to stay in after she’d moved in with her brother. Jesse, tired from the last forty-eight hours, let her be. He didn’t have the strength to deal with her pain, physically and mentally, and was concerned if he’d talk to her now, he might not choose the right words. He had an idea how much she was hurting, leaving her boyfriend behind in hospital, but unfortunately he didn’t have a choice but bring her home, after all, his life was still going on. As he walked towards his own bedroom, his phone buzzed, indicating he’d received a message. Hesitating, and considering to ignore it, he finally pulled the phone from his pants only to see he’d missed three messages.
Mate, it’s Harrison. Let me know how you’re going and if you need any help. Cheers.
Jesse made a mental note to give his friend a call after he’d had a shower. Then pushed the button for the next message.
Hello Jesse, this is Karen, Mario’s mother. Just keeping you up-to-date. He’s still in a coma, but the doctors are more confident that they can bring him out of the coma in only a few days. I suppose that’s good news. I hope you had a safe drive back home. I’ll call again tomorrow.
He appreciated Karen’s message. Of course, he was worried sick that Dana’s boyfriend was in hospital and they returned home. Exhaling a long breath, he doubted his decision again. Then he listened for the last message.
Hi Ranger Jesse, it’s Zoe here. We saw you drive past us a few minutes ago and Mum thought you looked tired. Please let her know if you’d like her to bring over some dinner to heat up for you and your sister. Oh, and I hope your sister is okay.

Thanks for all your comments,
I do appreciate each single one of them!

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Tamara had a sudden urge to tell Jason about her day. About that silly joke one of the girls had told her. Or how she had pressed the wrong button on the printer and created chaos. God, how much she missed him. Every day and every single minute. He’d been taken away from her way too early. Such a senseless and violent death.
She stopped the car in front of the small house she rented. Studying the yard in front of her, image of his dead body flashed in front of her eyes, and tears started to flow down her cheeks. She wiped the tears with the back of her hand and turned off the engine. Once she reached her house, she immediately headed to the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face. Staring at her mirror image, she asked herself for the thousandth time how it possible that life put her through such hardship. She didn’t know the answer and would probably never know.

BLURB:

Oliver Dempsey, pitcher for a Melbourne baseball club, loves the women, and they love him…
But he keeps them at an arm’s length, and when he meets Tamara, he’s unprepared for the attraction he feels for her. Told by his coach that she’s off limits, only draws him in more.

Tamara Amis moved to Melbourne to find some distance between her past and herself…
With the help of her uncle, the coach of a Melbourne baseball club, she quickly finds a job, and a place to live. Yet, one meeting with the handsome pitcher stirs unexpected emotions that threaten to overwhelm her.

It’s Oliver’s injury that brings them together, but as they find out about each other’s pasts, how can they be ready to share a future?

Jesse scratched the back of his neck. “Dana, please, I need you to understand.”
But she remained silent.
He tried again. “I promise you, Mario will be okay. We’ll visit him in a couple of days.”
Crossing her arms across her chest, she turned and stared out of the window.
He blew out a breath, being at his wits’ end. “What do want me to do, Dana? You can’t stay at the apartment on your own and —”
“I can so,” she muttered.
“So, you do have a voice.”
She let out an angry growl and moved her body even more to the window, now sitting with her back towards him.
Shaking his head, he switched on the stereo full blast, trying hard to control his frustration.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Tamara slid inside the car, buckled up in one smooth motion, and let out her first breath in what felt like forever. Like being chased, she drove the car out of the car park and merged into traffic. As she headed down the road, the temptation to glance into the rear-view mirror overcame her. Oliver was still standing there watching, slowly fading into the distance. Replaying their brief conversation, she was positive he had wanted to help her. Frustrated with herself, she took another deep breath, and as she turned left at the next light, she was able to have another quick glance towards the parking lot. That was when she saw her uncle Erik with Oliver. Her grip on the steering wheel got tighter, wanting to know the details of their conversation.

Erik had promised her to keep the reasons for her move to Melbourne to himself, but she knew her uncle was friends with Oliver as well. Shaking the thought out of her head, she reminded herself she could trust him. He’d always been there for her and her family. The numbers in her head told her she’d been in Melbourne only for a few weeks. Packing up and leaving her life in Perth behind had been easier than expected. Except for leaving her parents. They understood, though; she had to move on. They knew the reasons and knew she was in good hands with her uncle. As she drove through the busy streets of Melbourne on her way to her new home, she was grateful for a few things she’d liked that day. Helping out in the office at the stadium was keeping her busy, and although it was only a temporary position, she enjoyed the challenge. She was good with numbers. After all, she’d studied years to become an accountant and loved it. Jason had always teased her for her ability to get numbers in order. Yes, she was good with numbers, but she’d lost her touch with people. Trust had become a foreign word to her. Instead, fear and doubt had become her constant companion.

Excerpt:
Sara wandered down the hall, turned the corner at the end of the corridor, and ran smack into a bare, sweaty, male chest. The impact was brief. Hard hands closed over her shoulders and steadied her before setting her away. Sara looked up. Her mouth opened and closed, then opened again.
“You!” echoed through the emptiness. Sara jumped back farther. More memories squeezed her heart. Of all the voices that she might hear, she never expected to hear Josh McKinley’s deep baritone.
Sara jumped back farther. More memories squeezed her heart. Of all the voices that she might hear, she never expected to hear Josh McKinley’s deep baritone.
“So, you’re back.” His mouth twisted on the statement. His graveled voice and daredevil blue eyes challenged her.
She wasn’t ready for this. “What are you doing here? Gloating because my father’s bedridden and can’t throw you out?”
“Not gloating, working.”
What a surprising idea. “That’s ridiculous. It’s Sunday and Carson’s Cars is closed.”
“Always was, as I recall. Guess even an old devil like your daddy needs a day of rest.”
Her eyes widened. How dare Josh try to provoke her. He’d betrayed her, run off like a coward. Never mind that she’d done her own running a few years later. “My father would never hire a McKinley, and no McKinley would want to do an honest day’s work when he could shyster widows and orphans instead.”
Josh hooked his thumbs in the front pockets of his jeans and leaned against the wall, his narrow hips cocked at an aggressive angle. “I don’t work for your father.”
He had no right to prop his broad shoulders against that wall. “Then you’re not working here, so get off Carson’s property.”
Damn him with his dark hair and bright eyes. He didn’t move. He gave a slow smile and looked her over, head to toe and back. “You’ve changed, Sara.”
Déjà vu skittered bumps over her skin. Time was when she would have danced naked in a cactus patch for that smile. No more. “Maybe it’s time you found out just how much I have changed.”

Hero Bio: Josh McKinley—Witness to his mother’s murder in a drive-by-shooting, Josh McKinley escaped the Detroit slums when his uncle took him to Texas. For the blessing of a safe and very sound upbringing, Josh promised his uncle to help as many kids in need—like he’d once been—as he could. He decides to rent a warehouse in Luville Texas and turn it into a daycare. But he had not counted on Sara Anne Carson getting in his way.

Heroine Bio: Sara Anne Carson left Luville Texas believing she’d never live her dream of running Carson’s Cars. Now her father’s illness has brought her back and given her the chance to live her dream. But money problems, vandalism, and worst of all Josh McKinley stand in her way.

Jesse glance at his sister who hadn’t spoken since they’d left the hospital an hour earlier. She hadn’t been impressed at all with the idea of leaving Mario behind, but he’d assured her that he was in good hands with his own family, but also with the staff who cared for him. And, despite having to re-arrange his work roster, he promised her to take her to visit Mario every second day. He had no idea how he was going to do that, but he’d been desperate to get her into the car.
Truth be told, he had no idea how he was going to cope with her back in his house. He’d called Dr Roberts to organise a visiting nurse, but that was only going to happen the next week. He rubbed the tiredness out of his eyes. Well and truly exhausted from the last thirty-six hours, he looked forward to sleeping in his own bed.
And catching up with Lexie.
He groaned knowing that with Dana back home he’d have next to no time at all to … he blinked a couple of times. What exactly did he have in mind? He hardly knew the woman.
And, yet, she was constantly on the edge of his thoughts.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

“Lost your keys?” he queried this time.
His deep voice was soothing and caring, and although everything inside her told her to relax, her inner restlessness was taking over. Shaking her head frantically, she replied quietly, “No. They’re somewhere in here.” While taking another step away from him, she added. “I’d appreciate if you would leave me be.”
He cocked an eyebrow, but she didn’t care whether he was offended or not, or whether he even understood. All she cared about was getting away from him and into the car as soon as possible. When he pointed towards her jacket pocket, panic rose within her again. The car was right behind her and there was no way to get further away from him.
“Cupcake, you need to relax. Are those your keys?” She followed his finger towards the pocket of her jacket, only to find the acrylic heart-shaped key ring that held a photo of Jason hanging outside.
Taking the keys, she whispered, “Thanks,” towards him and then pushed the button to unlock the car.
Oliver still stared at her, but she wasn’t going there. Some things were better left unsaid. Hell, if she could explain it in three words she might have, but many of her friends had already given up understanding. Words like ‘you need to move on’ or ‘not all men are bad’ had come up frequently in most conversations she’d had over the last year. And she knew. Every fibre in her knew, but her subconscious told her to stay away from everyone.
“You okay?”
It took her a second, and a lot of strength, to meet his gaze again. Again, she was surprised how much her body responded. Yet, it was unlike any response she’d had towards men over the last few months. Yes, her hands were trembling as usual, but there was also a little flutter in her stomach. Heat crept into her cheeks. There was a hint of concern in his green eyes, and she studied him for a brief moment. The beginning of a smile tipped the corners of his mouth, and she quickly turned to open the car door. “I’m working on it,” she finally said.
