Raised in the shadow of a political magnate, Finn Billings has the credentials to get the job done, but he lacks confidence and wonders if politics is truly the life he desires.

Using the façade of her front business, a PR firm, Faith turns Finn into a political powerhouse while obtaining the evidence Drummond needs to destroy Finn’s political chances. But Faith didn’t plan on falling in love with her mark.

Excerpt:

In the biz, your word was golden, and there were rules that had to be upheld. White lies were acceptable, but there were certain lines one never crossed. Keep data in code, shield clients’ privacy, and, most importantly, protect the girls. At all costs. I’d always honored these precepts to the best of my abilities. It helped me stay afloat while other madams sank like flat tires in the Anacostia River.
Yet there I was after one free lunch, considering a partnership with a man who didn’t deserve to lick my stilettoes. Why? Was it the champagne? Drummond’s smooth tongue? The fact that creditors were calling on a regular basis? Whatever the reason, I couldn’t dismiss him until I exhausted every option.

Unfortunately, I only had one.

Even worse, she hated my guts.

He’s been her friend forever, though she never told him or anyone else how unhappy her marriage to his cheating brother was. And she’s afraid to tell the small town that considered her husband a hero that the baby isn’t his.

Cole’s been in love with Lauren since he was sixteen. It kills him that everyone believes the baby is his dead brother’s. All he wants is to claim the baby, and Lauren, as his own. Though she marries him, will Lauren’s heart ever be his?

Lauren must tell the truth or risk losing Cole. Is her newly-discovered love for him greater than her fear of scandal in her hometown?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks

EXCERPT:

“We asked you to come here this evening because we have something we want to tell all of you. Lauren and I are getting married.”

The room went deathly quiet. Lauren tightened her grip on his hand. Her face turned pale as she stared at her family’s stunned expressions. Cole put his arm around her waist, afraid she might faint.

He needn’t have worried. She lifted her chin at a defiant angle and turned to face the others.

“Cole and I have decided this child needs the best possible start in life and that means having a mother and a father. We’ve always been friends, so what better way to start a marriage then with friendship?”

Garrett pushed himself to his feet and came forward. “I think it’s a hell of an idea. You two will make wonderful parents.”

He enfolded Lauren in an embrace. Cole heard her murmur her thanks to her brother. “I think you’ll make a wonderful uncle.”

Charlotte was next in line. She kissed Lauren’s cheek. “I’m so happy for you, sweetie. When’s the big day?”

“In a couple of weeks,” Cole said. “As soon as we can arrange everything.”

Lauren’s parents, Robert and Grace, also extended their congratulations. If they had reservations, they kept them to themselves.

Only his mother remained in her seat, staring at them in disbelief. Cole sat next to her. “What do you want to say, Ma?”

“You can’t replace Billy.” She choked out the words.

“I know that.” He’d known he was second best in her eyes all his life. “I wouldn’t even try.”

“But to marry his wife, to raise his child? It’s wrong. They don’t belong to you. You always wanted what belonged to your brother.”

He wanted to shout at her that the baby was his, that it had nothing to do with Billy. And Lauren was his, too. He’d loved her first. His brother had never appreciated what a gem he’d had in her. He’d squandered his marriage the way he’d squandered the love that had been lavished on him all his life, from his parents, from Lauren, and even from him.

Instead he pressed his lips together and said nothing. He felt a hand on his shoulder, and saw that Lauren stood beside him.

“I know this is difficult for you, Ella. I know you’re grieving. But I have to raise my child in the best way I know how. Aside from my brother and sister, Cole is my best friend in the world. He’s a good man, and I know he’ll be a wonderful father. You should be very proud of him.”

His mother stared at Lauren as if she couldn’t believe what she was saying. Her face twisted. “Don’t you miss Billy at all? Don’t you grieve for him? Nobody understands. Nobody.”

“Ma.”

He said the word a little sharper then he’d intended, but at least it got her attention. She looked up at him in surprise.

“I’m sorry if it hurts you, but Lauren and I are getting married. We care about one another and we care about the baby. The three of us are going to be a family. I wish you could be happy for us.”

Ella dabbed at her eyes with a tissue. Finally, with a shuddering breath, she turned to look at him.

“For Billy’s baby’s sake, I’ll try.”

Billy’s baby.

The pain was swift and unexpected. If she’d stabbed him through the heart with a dagger it wouldn’t have hurt as much.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

A few minutes later, as Oliver walked through the labyrinth of the clubhouse, he pondered about heading over to Ty’s anyway. Katie, Ty’s girlfriend, always had leftover dinner, and a bit of company wouldn’t hurt. The instant pain in his shoulder when he moved the bag, however, reminded him to make that call for a massage appointment. When he hung up, he lifted his gaze and not only found himself in front of the lift but also next to Tamara. All the questions ran through his head again. How she’d ignored his hand, yet more so how intrigued he’d been by that distant look in her eyes.
He was about to say something when the lift gave a soft ping and the doors opened. With a small sigh, he stepped aside and waited for Tamara to enter first.
“Ground floor?”
“Yes, please,” she replied in a soft whisper.
A thousand things went through his head, yet nothing that would start a conversation. He turned his head slightly towards her and as he watched her staring at the closing doors, he noticed a little flinch.
Or had he imagined it?
From where he stood, he was only able to see a small part of her face. She was pale, yet her skin was flawless. Her blonde hair was tied back in a ponytail, with a few stray strands tucked behind her ears. No earrings. He moved a bit forward. No rings on any of the fingers either. When she turned a bit, he again saw her deep blue eyes. They were  so  beautiful, and yet underlined with troubling dark circles. He imagined for a moment what those eyes were hiding.
“So what brings you to Melbourne?” he asked.
He was pretty sure he’d noticed another little flinch.
Tamara finally turned towards him and met his gaze. She had the most beautiful eyes, and for a moment, he completely got lost in them. A smiled tugged at his lips, yet she simply turned and stared back at the door.
“Business,” she whispered.
He nodded and was glad when the doors opened after what had seemed the longest two minutes of his life.

I’m back!
I spent a wonderful birthday weekend at the beach last week, so today we pick up from two weeks ago – Lexie talking to Harrison about Jesse’s sister.

Enjoy ♥

“Dana was teased when they went to the beach yesterday. Mario obviously defended her and was beaten up. Dana ended up with a strained wrist from the fight, Mario is in an induced coma until the pressure on the brain is reduced.”
Lost for words, she stared at him.
“Jesse is in Melbourne trying to explain to his sister the ramification of that. I wouldn’t be surprised if he insists on her coming back to live with him until Mario is better.”
“So, he’s going to be okay?”
“His chances are very good.”
“And with all that to worry about he still sends you here, because he is concerned about a promised dinner?”
He nodded. “That’s our Jesse.”
Lexie contemplated the situation for a long beat, unsure how to respond. “Am I supposed to say now How can I help?
His mouth curved into a grin, but he remained silent.
No longer able to stay patient, Lexie stood and stepped around the desk. “I get this is Beauty Bay and things are done differently. I have noticed that already. So you play cupid for your friend because … because … or for God’s sake, Harrison. What do you want me to do with all this information?”
He gave her a wink. “You’re a highly intelligent person, I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
Slouching her shoulders, she slumped on the visitors’ chair and damn if her voice was strangled with effort. “Good grief. Haven’t you heard I screwed up my marriage? I’m useless when it comes to socialising.”

I do appreciate each single one of them!

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

As he walked to the showers, he thought about his training session and wondered whether his shoulder was to blame for the bad hits, or his lack of training. But who was he kidding, he always liked to throw everything he had at people, yet was hopeless in receiving anything thrown at him. That applied in baseball and in life. When he’d been to see his first baseball game as a kid in Los Angeles, he’d known he was born to pitch. He ran the water to heat it up before stepping under the spray and lifting his face to the mist. Closing his eyes, he succumbed to the seduction the water brought as it ran over his head and muscles. He was tired. After a moment of letting the water flow over his body, Oliver opened his eyes, and fixed his gaze on the tile wall before him. Coach Becker’s niece, Tamara, popped into his mind, and he thought of how she’d ignored his hand. He wasn’t sure whether she’d snubbed him or there was more to that look of fear in her eyes. Reluctantly, he turned off the water and grabbed his towel.
He walked to his locker and got dressed. As he packed up his gear, the phone fell out of his pocket and he saw he’d missed a call from Ty. Raking his hand through his wet hair, he remembered he was supposed to meet his friend at the squash court for a couple of games. It was the last thing he wanted to do that night. He threw his stuff into his locker, grabbed his bag, and rang Ty.
“Mate, how are you?” his friend asked.
“Need to give it a miss tonight, mate. I had some idiot on a skateboard slam into me last night and I crapped out my shoulder. How about a raincheck?”
“Make sure you’ll be over on Saturday for the cricket match.”
“Your place?”
“It’s always at my place,” Ty replied and hung up.

“Remember, it’s none of my business. I’m still not sure why you’re telling me.”
He choked back a chuckle. “Someone really did a number on you that you’re so weary of others.”
Leaning back in her chair she studied him. “I’m not sure how to take this.”
“He likes you, Lexie.”
Raising one brow, she replied, “We like him, too, but that’s no reason to tell me his private affairs.”
Another one of his chuckle. “He likes you.”
“So you keep saying.”
He stood and came closer. With his hands now on her desk, he studied her. “Lexie. He is very fond of you and would like to get to know you better, but his past is holding him back.”
Heat rushed into her cheeks. “Oh.”
“Exactly.”
She took a deep breath. “Well, next time you see him, please let him know that I’m a divorced, single mother, and my priorities lie with my daughter.”
Harrison gave a slow nod. “Indeed. And so it should be. Just…” He shrugged.
Leaning closer, she placed her arms on the desk. “So, back to the strained wrist.”
“Dana was teased when they went to the beach yesterday. Mario obviously defended her and was beaten up. Dana ended up with a strained wrist from the fight, Mario is in an induced coma until the pressure on the brain is reduced.”

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Erik ignored the situation and simply said, “Have your shower and see me before you head off to discuss your training schedule.”
Nodding, Oliver took another quick look at Tamara. For a brief moment, their eyes met, and he was puzzled by her expression. It seemed as if her
intense blue eyes were trying to hide something. The distant look in them was almost mysterious, and combined with her body language, he couldn’t
help but get the impression something was wrong. She was very guarded.
With one last look towards Tamara, Oliver turned and left.
As soon as he got to the locker room, he peeled off his T-shirt. Pain shot through him the instant he lifted his right shoulder. He’d been ignoring the twinge during the training session, but knew he had to have it looked at. The fucking skateboard rider had nearly knocked him over the previous day when he came out of nowhere. Oliver hadn’t had a chance to move out of the way fast enough and slammed his shoulder into a post.
He slowly stripped out of his track pants before grabbing a can of Coke out of his bag. Leaning against the wall, he chugged half of the drink while enjoying the quietness around him. Everyone else was still out on the field trying to please Coach Becker. He choked a laugh, hoping his mates would put Erik in a better mood than he had. They had a few important games over the next few weeks before the season ended, and for the first time in years, the club was doing well.
