“Steve?”

“It’s Mat. How about you tell me your name so I can ask Steve to return your call?”

‘‘How did you get my number?”

“I hit the redial button,” he replied, as if surprised by her question.

A smile twitched at Tiffany’s lips. He knew how to help himself. And he cared. “It’s Tiffany. My name is Tiffany.”

“Nice meeting you, Tiffany, even though it’s over the phone. So, you’re sure you’re okay?”

Tiffany hesitated, but noticed how talking to him calmed her. A quietness inside her began to push away the troubling fears, helping her to relax. “Who are you?”

Blurb

When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories of the past return to haunt her. She calls her friend Steve for help, only to be surprised by the voice of a stranger on the other end of the line. She never anticipates the impact this New Zealander is going to have on her life, even more so when she becomes the victim of an assault just a few hours later.

Mat Apanui, owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can hear the urgency and despair in Tiffany’s voice. They have never met before, but he feels compelled to help her. After an assault on her, he invites her to travel with him to his home in Queenstown, New Zealand, where he believes he can provide her with the temporary safety and security she needs until the situation is resolved.

But can Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust a stranger like Mat enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

This week’s Hook …

A few weeks later, Jared sat across the table from Mark, chugging down a bottle of water. As usual, he had easily beaten his friend at another game of squash.

“After all these years ya still playin’ like a girl,” he said.

Mark flipped him the finger and didn’t bother to reply.

“Trouble at home?”

“Nope, but having a house full of women is exhausting. Hope wakes up before dawn every morning and is cranky in the afternoon. Mia doesn’t want to come out of bed at all. Not to mention the extra person I have to feed.”

“Josh?” Jared asked with a grin.

“Teenage love. I’ve begged Sophie to have the talk with Mia, but she merely laughed and replied I’m way too late.”

Jared nearly spilt his drink. “Too late?”

“I’m too scared to ask,” Mark replied with a shrug before he grabbed his gear and stood.

His next question hauled her back to their conversation. “Are you okay?”

“Of course I am. Please let him know I called,” she snapped, still out of sorts, and hung up, never giving him a chance to reply.

Breathing hard, she tried to calm herself and reduce the adrenaline that had shot through her and left her shaking all over. She took another deep breath before she walked to the sink to rinse her clammy hands and make a cup of tea. The sound of the phone made her jump, and she rushed back to grab it, nearly knocking over the vase of flowers, cursing the police all the way as well as Hudson, the bastard, who had left her in hospital bruised and beaten up last year.

This week’s Hook …

Zach, who lived across the road from the Levesque / O’Connor clan in Chestnut Avenue, had met Natasha a few years earlier at one of Mia’s sports days. Natasha used to be Mia, Olivia, and Josh’s teacher until she moved on to a different school. One lucky man that Zach was, because she wasn’t only beautiful with her now-long, black hair and dark blue eyes, but also intelligent and very kind.

Except when it came to landscaping.

Jared’s gaze moved to Sophie, who smiled at her little girl. Then he caught Mark with a big grin plastered on his face watching his wife and daughter. Blowing out a little sigh, Jared noticed out of the corner of his eye how Josh took Mia’s hand into his own.

That was it. He’d had enough. It was kind of the last drop in a full bucket. He was sick of everybody else around him being happy except him. Without a doubt, he was pleased for them, but it was time that he took matters into his own hands and got out of his daily routine. He wanted more in life than getting up in the morning and working eight to ten hours only to return to an empty home. It wasn’t necessarily that he was looking for a partner — although that would have been nice — but he looked for something in life. Something to make him more content or his life more fulfilled.

With his thoughts drifting off as he gazed into the distance, he only vaguely followed the wedding ceremony.

Today’s Snippet

“Hello?” came an unfamiliar man’s voice.

Tiffany hesitated, but hung up without giving it a second thought. Checking the numbers by pushing redial, she pressed connect when she was sure. With her heartbeat up a notch, she focussed.

“Hello?” the same man answered, this time with irritation.

Frayed with confusion, she moved her mouth soundlessly until she got her bearings, “Uhm, can I talk to Steve, please?”

“He’s not home.”

“Who…who are you?”

“My name is Mat. Can I leave him a message?”

Running a hand through her short hair, she racked her brain to put one and one together. This person definitely had a little Kiwi accent. But who the hell was he?

His next question hauled her back to their conversation. “Are you okay?”

This week’s Hook …

“The bride is late,” he heard someone say behind him. He had a guess it was Olivia, Mia’s best friend, who was always straightforward.

But as if on cue, the doors opened, and the bride entered the church.

Natasha looked beautiful in her lace-up, white chiffon dress. It was ruched at the back and emphasised her slim figure. She’d let her black hair grow and wore it in a French twist with pearls beaded into it. A delicate tiara graced her hairstyle.

Of course, he wouldn’t have known all the details if she hadn’t told him and shown him pictures as well as sketches so he would have had an idea for the flowers. Now that she was walking down the aisle, goose bumps spread across his skin. She looked stunning, and with a grin, he leaned back, satisfied the lily bouquet looked much better than any roses would have.

#NewRelease “Take the Bull by the Horn” by @CynthiaTerelst

Take the Bull by the Horns
by Cynthia Terelst

Series – Love Down Under
Genre – Contemporary Romance

Release Date – 31 July 2023

A nanny and single dad risk their hearts for the chance at a forever love

Love can heal the scars on your heart

Lachlan

So what if I’ve gone through four nannies in three short years? I know what’s best for my children and it’s not the nanny my mother and ex-wife have hired.

Peyton may be all kinds of beautiful but she is totally unsuitable—city girl, former doctor and no experience.

Problem is, everybody loves her. I don’t want to feel the same; one failure at love is enough. Besides, I have a duty to my family and the farm.

Except the more I spend time with her, the more I’m drawn to her honesty and bravery. I need to remember, a farm is no place for a woman like Peyton; she will not stay.

Peyton

After an accident put an end to my surgical career, I jumped at the opportunity to be a nanny. Moving to Australia will get me away from my controlling family. It’s time I start making my own decisions.

But falling for my boss is not the wisest one I could make, even if it feels right. It doesn’t hurt that his singing makes my panties melt.

Everything is perfect—I feel heard and seen for the first time (and I don’t just mean my scars).

I’m where I belong…until my family get involved. Then I’m left with no job and no home.

Now I need to make the biggest decision of all—stand up to my family, choose my happy and fight for love.

**This is a standalone romance with medium heat**

Excerpts

Two figures made their way down the stairs. I knew Ann instantly from our video calls.

The man beside her was striking. Sunlight glinted off his thick golden-brown hair like surgical blades would shine under focused lighting. He was tanned and muscular with tattoos down one arm, a mixture of black and white and colour, indistinct at this distance. Wowsers, I didn’t know farmers looked like that. I blushed. While Ann oozed warmth, he oozed stoic resignation.

***

“Are you still tired?” Thomas asked.

What gave me away? “Some strange noises woke me up.”

Lachlan’s boots were on, but he remained seated.

“What sort of noises?” Thomas asked, his eyes wide as he perched himself on a stool at the counter.

“Scratching and grunting.”

“Oh, that’s probably Mr Harrison.”

“Who?” What would a man be doing under my unit?

A light chuckle came from the bench outside.

“Mr Harrison. The wombat,” Thomas said.

A wombat, right. What was a wombat? “Are they dangerous?”

“Mr Harrison won’t hurt you. He’s used to us.”

“OK.” He wasn’t used to me.

I blushed. Lachlan must think I was crazy or stupid. He could have tried to be reassuring instead of just sitting on the bench, not saying a word. Everyone knew half the animals in Australia wanted to kill you.
