The marriage is fake, but the passion is real.

Famous for his last name, devilish Anthony Star-Hunter is the black sheep of the Star clan. He’s an expert at using his tall, dark, and handsome charm to get women into bed—the last remnant of his declining hard-party escapades.

But the bucks are about to stop here. His grandfather’s will demands he marry to inherit his fortune. Anthony panics. Even with his bad boy allure, how the hell is he going to find a tolerable bride, like, yesterday?

The minute Sarah Pennington spots the tattooed muscles her new stepsister’s ex hides under his Italian suits, she rolls her eyes. Anthony is not for her. And with her father maybe headed to prison for a financial fiasco, she’s had enough bad male behavior. She’s responsible. She’s hard-working. She…can’t stop having naughty dreams about the sexy “celebutant.”

At a beach-side wedding, a drunken mishap throws Sarah into Anthony’s bed, and he’s intrigued. Can he convince her to give fake marriage a chance? Can she convince herself to keep her heart out of the deal?

Their slow-burn, un-love affair isn’t what either expect, but it might be what both of them need forever.

This week’s Hook …

In her anger, she grabbed the door handle with the intent of letting out her irritation only to find it unlocked. Surprised, she froze, hesitated, then shoved the door a little and entered.

“Hello?”

Had she fallen for a scam when she’d booked a room at this place? It had all looked so genuine.

“Hello?” She tried again, this time a bit louder, but still no reply.

Taking a couple of deep breaths to steady her heartbeat, she moved along the hall from door to door until she reached the kitchen.

“Hello?”

Still no reply. She found the light switch and turned it on. Looking around, the place had a lived-in feeling, tidy and well maintained, but nothing that would provide her with a clue as to where her host was.

Connor raked his hand through his hair. Duncan was the last person he wanted to talk to, because he knew his adopted father wanted him to make decisions he wasn’t able to make at that moment. Most likely Duncan wanted to interfere with his thoughts, and Connor forced himself to shove away all the questions sitting heavy on his chest, which were gradually overwhelming him. He didn’t want to make any decisions, but to take things a day at a time. He and Jack deserved it.

Breathing in deeply, he ignored the question of how he was, because not only was he sick of people asking him, but also he didn’t have the answer to it. His life had turned upside down the moment his real father had contacted him.

“All good here.”

“Good to hear. Give me a call if there are any legal problems. I’m sure we can get it sorted. After all, Australian and British law are based on similar principles.”

Zoey Matthew is excited to celebrate her upcoming 21st birthday and begin building the life she’s always wanted. Suddenly she has to learn how to take care of an infant and juggle her new career while grieving the loss of her sister, who had been like a mom to her after their own mother abandoned them. And losing her dad at a young age right before her mom left without a word has Zoey feeling lost and less than adequate for the job of becoming a mother to Ella.

Encountering frequent challenges, Zoey gives up her career to care for her niece and throws in the towel on ever having a love life since she believes no man will be interested in her—a woman with a baby. Feeling alone and vulnerable, she finds hope and joy in the presence of new friends: a kind-hearted Claudia and a charming-baby whisperer, Derek.

Zoey realizes that her life can never truly be at peace until her sister’s murderer is brought to justice and she finds out who is behind the mysterious weekly grocery deliveries. Will she uncover the truth and find closure, or will the disclosures shatter her world even further?

This week’s Hook …

Knowing she couldn’t leave again this late in the day, she placed her backpack on the floor and went in search of a glass. She was desperate for a drink of water. She liked the cabin style kitchen. Running her hand over the wooden bench, she peered out the window into the near darkness, still confused by it all.

Looking around, she found about half a dozen cups on hooks hanging from a shelf that held beautiful storage containers for sugar, coffee, and tea. Underneath another shelf was a vast selection of herbs and spices. Lani took a cup and a teabag as she imagined cleaning the dishes while enjoying the view across the mountains and the lake. The peace and comfort that spread through her made her yearn for a place like this. A smile formed on her lips, but it didn’t stop a trickle of envy spreading through her as she went in search of a kettle. An assortment of frying pans hung on hooks above the stove. Cooking pots rested next to it on shelves. It was such a contrast to her grandmother’s small kitchen. Plates of various sizes were stacked underneath, and right behind them was an old-fashioned red stove kettle. She reached for it to fill it with water, but instead the steps around the corner caught her attention. Curious, she went halfway up the stairs, which led to the upper level of the house.

A slight shiver ran down her spine, as she stepped on the creaking boards and called a hesitant, “Hello?”

Yet, despite having been desperately tired, sleep hadn’t come easy. He’d tossed and turned thinking of Emily. Her small gesture of kissing him had him reeling with emotions he’d tried so hard to suppress. As if his life wasn’t in enough chaos already, having moved in with his dying father for the next God-knew-how-many-months, separating with his girlfriend, and calling Australia his home for at least the next six months if not more. He needed a clear head to face every situation and make the best appropriate decisions.

No women. Especially not the one he’d kissed as a child.

His phone vibrated on the seat next to him. After considering whether to ignore it or not, he exhaled, pulled over, and stopped on the side of the road.

He slid his thumb across the screen. “Connor Walsh.”

“Duncan here. How are you, son?”

ECHOES OF THE PAST is only 99c at the moment … If you like the story, I’d appreciate your support ♥

The weather had improved the next day, and Connor drove along the coastline towards the next little town. Breathing in deeply, he enjoyed the smell of the salty air and the sight of the foamy waves crashing against the pristine beaches as he passed the unique limestone cliffs. He looked upwards, impressed by the stark blue sky, which one rarely saw in London.

The storm had cleared overnight and left a beautiful sunny day. It was humid, but London had terrible muggy days during summer as well, so it didn’t bother him all that much. The music blared out of the car stereo, yet the tension inside him didn’t fade. He hadn’t spoken to his father today or during the afternoon the previous day. Jack had gone to bed after Emily’s visit, and Connor had prepared himself a sandwich and called it a day as well. Jetlag was still a problem, although not in regard to his memory.
