Today’s Snippet

He stood and packed up. “I am not. You have a job and a house. It seems that’s enough to make you happy and make you laugh as well. “
“One can’t survive on laughter alone.”
Once he had everything inside the basket, he carried it to the car, moved to the driver’s side, and held the door open for Hannah. “You have the computer thingy. I’m sure it’ll direct you home.”
She put on her socks and shoes before sliding behind the steering wheel. “What about you?”
He gave her a wink. “Don’t you worry about me. I’ll be fine.”
“I can’t just leave you out here in the middle of nowhere.”
“Of course you can.” And without any warning he shut the door.
Taken aback by his changed demeanour and what had happened the previous five minutes, she watched as he returned to the creek and back into the water. She shook her head at the fact that he hadn’t even bothered to take off his shoes. It was going to be so uncomfortable for him to walk back.
Walk back? What was he thinking? They were at least twenty kilometres away from Fermosa Bay. She blew out a breath, opened the door, and sauntered towards him, watching him as he tried to build a dam with the small creek rocks.

She stopped at the edge of the water. “No way am I going in there.”
His laughter echoed slightly through the forest. “Of course, you will.”
She shook her head. “No. It’s freezing cold.”
With a nod, he agreed. “That it is indeed. But you’ll get used to it.”
She shot him a glare. “It’s not whether I will or not, but that I don’t want to.”
“You did have fun as a kid.”
She shrugged. “It’s different when you’re a child.”
“What is different?”
 “Everything.”
He tilted his head with an expression of sincere curiosity. “Define everything.”
She let out a soft huff. “You’re a big pain in the butt.”
He let out a bark of laughter. “Why do you think that?”
“Why do I think what?”
“Why would you think I’m a pain in the butt?”
“Because of all your questions and pushing me to go to places I don’t want to go.”
He let go of her hand, an expression of sadness spreading across his face, then turned and walked towards the picnic blanket and slid into his socks and then his shoes.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking you home.” His voice nothing more than a whisper. “I tried, but bottom line is, you’re stuck in your miserable life and holding onto it as if your life dependent on it.”
“I do not have a miserable life. Quite the opposite. I’ve just taken over a medical centre, I have a beautiful house just across the beach.”
He held up his finger in a circling motion “Whoopedoo.”
“Don’t be condescending.” she demanded.

Happy New Year ♥

Today’s Snippet

“Come on. Take off your shoes and socks.”
Pulling her forehead into a frown, she countered, “I’m not taking my shoes and socks off.”
He stepped in front of her. “Of course you are.”
As he sat he gently pulled her down along with him. “Come on. You’ll enjoy it.”
Rolling her eyes, she watched him as he slid out of his shoes as well as his bright pink socks, which sported lots of differently coloured butterflies. Why wasn’t she surprised? Even though still disapproving of the idea, she slipped out of her sneakers and socks as well and when he held out for her hand, she reached for it. Part of her was curious what he was going to do, the other part annoyed that she was here instead of having done her groceries and now reading a book. A book she liked, not the suggested one from the bookclub. Not necessarily a romance book, but something with a little bit of crime or mystery. She wasn’t big on romance, it reminded her how much she failed in her marriage with Dominik. He was a surgeon at a hospital in Melbourne, where she’d worked in the emergency department. The days they’d both been home at the same time had been rare and mostly spent with Dominik being with his friends going fishing and Hannah staying home catching up on housework. In the end they’d drifted apart, and when Dominik had wanted children, she she hadn’t been ready yet to give up her career. Or so she’d told herself.
Bigalow hauled her back to the present. “Come on Hannah,” he said as he dragged her along towards the creek. She tilted her head to look at him, his smile wide and contagious.
She stopped at the edge of the water. “No way am I going in there.”

#SnippetSunday “First we’ll have some fun.” #amwriting #mustread #Ghosts #Romance

Happy Sunday.

Today’s Snippet

“Turn left over there and follow the small gravel road for about five hundred metres.“

She did and immediately stared at the scenery which was opening up in front of her. Only a few minutes later she parked the car night next to a small creek and got out. It was beautiful. Surrounded by lush green trees, a crystal dear waterway made its way over rocks and pebbles. Birds chirped in the distance, a gentle breeze rustled through the leaves, and the splashing of the water completed the picture of this stunning place. A noise behind the car pulled her out of the reverie and for a moment she watched as Bigalow set up a picnic on small rug. She joined him, amazed by the choices of food in front of her.

“Where did you get all this?”

“I came prepared,” he explained with his now typical grin that made her forget about everything.

She was about to sit and try one of the cheeses, when he said, “Not yet. First we’ll have some fun.”

Eyes wide, she stared at him.

“Come on. Take off your shoes and socks.”

Today’s Snippet

She shot him a questioning look.
With a shrug the explained, “It’ll be the same as the photo.” But still, he reached for the belt. “However, if you insist.”
“I do.” She didn’t say thanks or anything else, because after all, it was the law. Never mind all the memories that flooded her of all the accident casualties she’d seen during her time working in the emergency department at the hospital. It still caused her the random nightmare. It’d been another reason to move to Fermosa Bay.
They drove in silence only broken by his occasional directions. The urge to ask him who he was, not to mention how he was able to move so quickly out of the photo, grew within her, but she remained silent.
Worry trickled through her again because she had no idea where she was going.
“If you wanted to kill me you could’ve done that at home. I don’t think anybody would notice unless I get a call out.”
His bark of laughter echoed through her small car. ”Why would I want to do that?” Gently, he placed his hand on her arm. “You will need to ask the right questions and you’ll understand.”
“So you keep telling me,” she muttered.

Ten minutes later, she’d quickly brushed her teeth, washed her face, and had applied some makeup. Why in the hell, she had no idea.
He waited for her in the hall with a little basket in his hand. Her mother’s old basket none the less. How on earth did he find it?
“Mum’s picnic basket,” she said more to herself.
A smile curved his beautiful lips as he held it up. “Perfect for the occasion.” He reached for her hand. “Let’s go.”
Again, she surprised herself by taking his hand. They went to the car and got in. Hannah sat on the driver’s side and put the key into the ignition waiting for him to buckle up.
He raised a brow. “Let’s go. Head towards the main street out of Formosa Bay.”
Still waiting, she pointed towards the window on his side. “You need to buckle up.”
He let out a soft laugh which went right through her and reminded her again of the insanity of it all. Or to be more precise, his insanity. ”Real or not, I’m not leaving until you’re buckled up. If the police pulls me over—”
“They won’t see me. . .”

Today’s Snippet

About to challenge him, she actually thought about his statement. With a bit of hesitation and a bit of exaggerated arrogance, she stepped to the fridge and opened it as well. And, damn it, if he wasn’t right. There was enough meat for two or three meals, heaps of vegetables, and some lettuce, tomatoes, a cucumber, and an avocado for a plain tossed salad. With a big sign she closed the door again.
“Did you actually end up telling me who you are?”
“I’m Bigalow.”
“No, who you really are.”
“I am really Bigalow. Now, go and get ready.”
She reached for her two pieces of toast and sauntered to her bedroom, still pondering his statement about routine. And with some annoyance she admitted he was right.
It didn’t take her long to put on some jeans, a casual jumper, and slip into some sneakers, in between taking a couple of bites of her breakfast. She must’ve gone mad even considering going with him, to wherever it was they were going. Considering? Well, she was going. With this…was he a madman?

He choked back a chuckle. “You’ll find out once we get there.”
“But I will need—”
“You will need nothing but a bit of time”
She gave a snort. “Exactly what I don’t have.”
“Everyone has time. Not everyone knows how to use it properly, though,” he disagreed with her.
She stood and placed the empty coffee mug to the sink. “I need to do the groceries and the washing.”
He shook his head. “No you don’t”
Eyes wide, she placed her hands on her hips, irritation growing inside her. “I do. Otherwise I won’t have anything to eat—”
“I’d say that’s a bit exaggerated,” he replied as he got up from the chair and walked to the fridge, which he opened. “See it’s full.” Closing the fridge, he turned to her. “You’re confusing routine with need.”

#SnippetSunday “Who says I’m a ghost?” #amwriting #BookSunday #mustread #Ghosts

Happy Sunday.
I’ve moved on to another WIP. It’s just an idea at the moment, so bear with me for the first few posts.

Today’s Snippet

With a nod, he responded in a mere whisper, “Hannah, I’m not real.”
Unable to respond, she gaped at him for a long beat. “You do know, ghosts don’t exist,” she muttered at last.
The side of his mouth pulled up in a charismatic smirk. “Who says I’m a ghost?”
There was no way she was able to follow this conversation without her morning coffee. And what happened to her lazy day? This was worse than a day’s worth of patients.
Without any sound he stepped next to her, and as scary as it should’ve been, it wasn’t. Hesitating, he reached for the knife and returned it to the wooden block and then took her hand into his.
She flinched as his freezing cold hand touched hers. “You are—”
“Not real,” he explained again. “You are in the medical profession, everything is black or white for you, but for just a little while I will need you to try and open up a bit.”
“I need coffee,” she sighed. Still overwhelmed by what he was implying, not to mention his freezing cold hand, which by the way were still holding hers, she switched on the kettle. “May I offer you a coffee as well?” she croaked.
He shook his head. “No thanks, but make yourself a drink for on the go. I’d like to take you somewhere.”
Bad enough that she had a stranger in her house, and yes despite knowing his name he very much wasn’t just a stranger, but strange as well, yet the idea of going somewhere with him sounded oddly alluring. “Where to?”
