#SnippetSunday “What if I were a criminal.” #romancebooks #Sundayblog #amwriting

♥ Happy Sunday ♥
After spending a few weeks in Tasmania and thought the place deserves a story. It’s still very much a WIP, but hopefully it’ll turn into something really good. Today’s snippet is still in Alex’s POV.
Enjoy ♥

He studied her face. Her struggle and disappointment was obvious not only through her voice, but also in her demeanour and the sagged shoulders. He pondered about the offer that lay on his lips. He looked over to his father who was tinkering away at the car oblivious about her newest misfortune. Hans was in his sixties and could’ve easily retired a few years ago, but he liked to help people. His services were the most affordable around, because this wasn’t just work for him, but his life, something he loved.
He gazed back at Leonie. “What’s in St. Helens?”
She shrugged. “The scenery. Far away from civilisation. Peace and quiet.”
Nodding, he gave a smile. Again, he thought about his idea. He understood, because these were exactly the reasons he’d bought a house near St. Helens a few years back.
“I have a house in Binalong Bay you could stay for a few days. I’ll only be heading that way next weekend.”
Eyes wide, she said, “I can’t accept that.”
With a lift of his shoulder, he asked, “Why not?”
“Because.”
He choked back a chuckle. “You’re aware this is not really an answer.”
Standing straight now and turning towards him, she explained, “There are many reasons. You don’t know me. I don’t know you. I can’t just stay at your house. What if I were a criminal.”
Rubbing his temple with his finger, he let out a soft laugh. “You just told me you’re not running, but trying to have a holiday.”
“I could’ve lied.”
“Did you?”

Alex Mattys’ arms instinctively went around her waist. Her scent filled his senses. A sweet floral mixed with citrus smell. He liked it. Why hadn’t he noticed it earlier today?
He raised his brows. “Are you the one who’s running?”
She blew out a breath as she stepped away from him. Her heavy sigh told him if he wasn’t right with his assumption, he was at least close.
Her eyes met his. “Alex.” Tilting her head slightly, she said, “I’m not running, but trying to have a holiday. But it seems fate has different ideas.”
“Give me an hour and your car will be fixed.”
They both twisted around to look at Hans.
“I’ll just clean it up a little and do some checks,” Hans added.
“There you go. Dad saved the day. You’ll be able to drive off and enjoy your holiday.”
Looking into the distance, she bit her lip and remained quiet.
Alex stepped a bit closer. “May I ask whether there’s something else that is not going according to plan?”
The frown on her beautiful face told him he was spot on, but he didn’t know her and didn’t want to push it. Yet, something inside him urged him to. Wanted to know.
He scratched the back of his head as he watched his dad working away under the bonnet of the car when she replied in just above a whisper, “My accommodation for St. Helens was cancelled.”

He nodded. “Do you mind if I have a look at it?”
Lifting her shoulder in a slight shrug, she replied, “It depends how much you’ll charge me for it. Although a rental, I’d be out of pocket first.”
“I’m happy to help you with the rental company. Which one is it?”
Suddenly, she recalled everyone’s words, warning her not to rent a car over the internet. No insurance, no assurance, no safety … she blew out a breath. This was supposed to be the start of her new beginnings. The start of her life without Tim. Yet, it seemed she wasn’t even able to do that right.
Hans scratched the back of his head, an awkward silence between them. “Okay, let’s deal with that later.” He sauntered towards the car. “So what brings you to Tassie, Miss…”
“My name is Leonie.”
He opened the driver’s side car door and leaned in to pop the bonnet. “What brings you to Tassie, Leonie?”
“Holidays.”
“Where are you heading,” he asked as he hooked the bonnet and leaned over the motor.
“Nowhere in particular. Just …” She really didn’t know. Bridport had been the place she wanted to stay the first night, but for no real reason.
He peeked towards her. “Running away from something?”
“Who’s running?”
Leonie shot around and bumped right into Alex’s chest.

A smile spread across his face. “You must be the girl with the dodgy rental.”
Her mouth curved into a smile. Alex had already talked to him. She sauntered towards him, not sure why she was here, because after all Alex had told her it was all okay and secondly, it wasn’t her car. She should just call the rental company and ask for a different one.
On which grounds, though. And would they be able to provide a car. If so, would she have to return to Launceston?
She blew out a breath.
“Good afternoon.” A genuine smile spread across his face as he held out a hand. “I’m Hans Mattys, Alex’s father.
She took his hand. “Nice meeting you, Mr. Mattys.”
His hand shake was gentle and short. “Please, call me Hans.”
Leonie looked back to her car before she turned to look at him again. “I’m not really sure why I’m here—”
“Either way, I’m glad you did stop by.” He nodded towards the rental car. “I take it that’s the dodgy car?”
She drew in her lips slowly becoming uncomfortable with the word dodgy. “I hope it was just a hiccup.”

Exhaling a long breath, she checked the time and slid behind the steering wheel, hoping the car would get her to her next destination. She’d wanted to make it to the coast further east, but her next stop was going to be George Town for some lunch.
And a car check-up at GT Smash Repairs.
Not that her budget would agree.
She drove for the next forty-five minutes in silence, enjoying the scenery around her, but subconsciously fully in tune with the sound of the car. As soon as she would get to her accommodation tonight, she’d call the rental service to lodge a complaint. If it hadn’t been for Alex she might’ve still be stuck on the road. Possibly still waiting for road side assistance.
Once she got to George Town she parked the car in what seemed the centre of town. She was pleased everything was close by which made a quick shop at the supermarket and chemist easy, and she still had enough time to have lunch without a rush. She checked her phone for the address and directions to the smash repair and headed there next. Fortunately, it was close by as well.
Leonie turned off the engine and watched the man stepping out of the inside office heading towards her. He would’ve been in his late forties, early fifties at a guess, but still very attractive, even in his blue overalls, which were covered with dirt.
Hesitantly, she opened the door and stepped out of the car.
A smile spread across his face. “You must be the girl with the dodgy rental.”

He chuckled again. “I’m heading north towards George Town. If you’re heading in this direction I could follow you to make sure your car is okay.”
She hesitated. A few seconds ago he assured her that the car was okay. Now he wanted to follow her just in case. “You just said the car should be okay for the rest of my travels. You’re contradicting yourself here a little.”
Alex was a very cheery person it seemed, because he chuckled again. This time, Leonie had to take a deep breath to hold back her frustration … despite his very generous help.
He raked his hand through his hair. “I’m not a mechanic by trade. My knowledge comes from watching over my dad’s shoulder. I’m pretty certain you’ll be fine, but I just wanted to make sure.” He paused and met her gaze. “I suppose nowadays it could’ve come across as inappropriate. My apologies.”
And the rush of guilt that shot through took her breath. “I’m the one who needs to apologise,” she said just above a whisper.
“Anyway. If you do head towards George Town, and by that I’m not suggesting that you should follow me, but if you do, call in at GT’s Smash Repairs.”
She looked at the car then back to Alex. “I really appreciate your help and I’m sorry I’ve been so rude. It’s … it’s—”
“A long story?”
A smile twitched at her lips. “I’m afraid so.”
He shifted his weight from one leg to the other as he shoved his hands into his pockets. “Anyway, I’d better keep going. Enjoy your travels.”
Without really giving her a chance to respond, he turned and walked to his car before driving off. Leonie wasn’t sure whether to be relieved that he was gone, because suddenly an emptiness engulfed her. She’d liked Alex. He seemed nice.
Well, so had Tim when she’d first met him.

#SnippetSunday “Just living each day.” #romancebooks #amreading #amwriting

♥ Happy Sunday ♥
Time for something new. I spent a few weeks in Tasmania and thought the place deserves a story.
Enjoy ♥

Leonie Dupont absentmindedly gazed at the guy’s backside which was nicely tucked into blue jeans as he leaned under the hood of her rental car. Blowing out a long breath, she said, “Thanks again for helping.”
He stood straight, avoiding banging his head against the hood, and nodded towards the front of the car. “Try again.”
She sat on the driver’s seat and cranked the engine, relief flooding through her as the motor sprang to life. Not turning off the car, she stood and stepped towards him. “I don’t know how to thank you. What was wrong?”
His mouth curved into a smile. A very sexy smile indeed. “Nothing much. You should be okay for the rest of your travels. Unless you’re on your way to Darwin.”
She shook her head and held her hand out. “I owe you…”
He ignored her hand and replied, “Alex. And no you don’t. Happy to help.” He wiped his hand on his jeans and guilt trickled through her seeing the dirty marks his action left.
Closing the hood of the car, he asked, “Where are you heading…”
“Leonie.” She lifted her shoulder in a slight shrug. “No real plans. Just living each day.”
He cocked a brow. “That sounds mysterious.”
“Long story.”

#SnippetSunday “He rolled his eyes at himself.” #romancebooks #amreading #amwriting

♥ Happy Sunday ♥
I’m continuing with my latest WIP which is set near
Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. I’ve moved into Dylan’s POV this Sunday.
Enjoy ♥

Dylan pinched the bridge of his nose when he slid behind the wheel of his car. Still confused what had happened the previous twenty minutes. There was no doubt Lani Thompson was an interesting person. He rolled his eyes at himself. Interesting? How on earth was he able to make this judgement after only a few minutes of chaotic conversation where lots had been implied and little had been said? She was here to see Toby and that made her an interesting person. It was as simple as that.
He reached for his phone and saw he’d missed two calls from Teddy. Ignoring them for the moment, he blew out a breath. He’d failed as a bed and breakfast host. He wasn’t good at all this. He was supposed to have asked Lani to fill in the guest book and grab a copy of her driver’s licence. He’d been in a rush after struggling with the flat tyre and, yes, taken aback by his body’s reaction to her. He shook the thought out of his head. There was no reaction, but surprise. He’d been expecting a middle aged woman, although he had no idea why. Seeing Lani in front of him, probably early twenties, out of control red hair, and green eyes like he’d never seen before had completely thrown him.

Despite being tired, it took Lani a long time to fall asleep. There were so many things going around in her head that her mind wasn’t able to calm and let her sleep. Not to mention that every tiny noise in the house made her jerk and listen so intently that she was wide awake again.
She’d finally arrived in New Zealand and was anxious about meeting Tobias. Her father.
Blowing out a heavy breath, she reached for the light before searching for the photo of her mother and Tobias. It didn’t take long before she retrieved it from her jacket. She studied him and traced his face with her finger. The man next to her mother had dark curly hair, dark eyes and a solid build. In her diary her mother described him with chocolate brown eyes, thin lips, and dark chest hair.
Lani let out a soft snort. It was obvious she didn’t have the red hair from him, however, she could blame him for the wild curls.

#SnippetSunday “Grandpa is my one and only.” #Bookish #amreading #amwriting

♥ Happy Sunday ♥

A stab of pain went through her. Her grandfather had always been her best friend, the person to go to when she was in trouble, when she had her heart broken or when she’d lost her job and had to move in with them because she was broke. And he’d been her rock when her mother had died in a plane crash six months ago. There was no way that she would’ve coped without him. He’d been there for her even though he was grieving the loss of his child.
“Tell grandpa I agree I don’t have to meet him.” She paused for a beat. “But I want to.”
“Darling, don’t take it to heart. He’s being replaced by—”
“No one could ever replace him,” Lani emphasised. “Grandpa is my one and only.”
Her grandmother let out a soft sigh, but didn’t reply.
Lani closed her eyes. “I’d better go and get a good sleep. It’s going to be a big couple of days.”
“Good luck with it all.”
“Thank you.”
She disconnected the call, checked her email, and switched off the phone. On second thought, she turned it on again and muted it.
Good luck. Her grandmother’s words popped into her mind. Dylan had said the same thing. Why? What was she missing? Was she heading head first into a wall? She shook the thought away. Everything was going to be fine, after all, he was her father.
