I started this story two weeks ago and I hope you’re enjoying it so far. I’m not sure where it’s heading, so any comments / critique is more than welcomed.

Enjoy ♥

Lexie met his gaze dead on, unaware of the momentary silence. Again, she had to push the flutter in her stomach away by closing her eyes for a brief second or two.
“Mum.”
Eyes wide now, she turned to Zoe. “What?”
“The Ranger asked you a question.”
She looked back into the stunning brown eyes. “My apologies. I think the realisation of the situation we were in has just sunk in.”
There was no chuckle this time, but a stern look she wasn’t able to interpret. “Are you okay?” he asked again.
“As I said, yes, I am.”
“Want to give me a brief background story of your day and how I can help you?”
“I think the short version is that we would like to have a lift to my car.”
He nodded. “No problems. Whereabouts is your car?”
Tilting her head slightly to the side, she replied, “At the car park?”
The Ranger pinched the bridge of his nose, but didn’t reply.
“Okay, let me try this again. I am not as useless as I’m currently coming across. Zoe…” She pointed to her daughter. “My daughter and I have only recently moved to Beauty Bay. It’s a beautiful day, so we thought it’d be perfect for exploring the area.”
“You decided,” Zoe piped in which in return earned her a stern look from her mother.
“The lovely lady from the bakery told us about this path along the creek and toward a little waterfall. We found that. But unfortunately not the way back. The car park was not really a car park—”
The Ranger held up his hand. “Lady from the bakery?”
Lexie nodded.
“I have a very good idea where your car is.” He looked at Zoe and then to Lexie again. “I’ve had a call, though, regarding a road kill which I have to check out first.”

    1. Thank you Veronica. Yes, patience is supposed to be one of his character traits …. let’s see how long it’ll last ☺

  1. Yikes, he has to check out the roadkill first. I guess that is a small price to pay to have him drive them back to the car. And the bonus, mum can be in his company a while longer though I don’t believe she won points with her comment about exploring and then how they became lost. lol
