DEFYING RULES

A little reminder in on of the previous posts, Addy returned home from work to find her house broken in. I’ve edited it a bit to keep it shorter.

DEFYING RULES is set along the Australian Great Ocean Road and tells the story of Ethan Tomlin, single dad, and manager of a hotel chain.

This is still a WIP, so critique away.

Thanks … and enjoy 🙂

He <Ethan> understood, of course he did, and although it made sense to him, there was a part in him that still worried. There was a background noise on the other end of the line, and he wondered what she was doing. Then he realised she was checking doors and windows. Uncomfortable with the idea that she was in the house on her own, he said, “I’ll leave my phone on overnight, could you promise me to call if you need to?”
“I appreciate your offer. And yes, I promise.”
“Addison, are you really sure you’ll be right?”
He heard a soft laugh. “Yes, I’m really sure. Anyway, I’d better get going. I haven’t had dinner, yet.”
“Please take care.”
“I will. Thanks Ethan.”
Instead of watching the movie with his son, he finished cleaning up the kitchen, still not able to stop thinking of Addison being alone in the house. Annoyed with himself for not letting it go, he kept telling himself that he was overreacting. Yet, the whole situation was bizarre. They rarely had break-ins in Fermosa Bay. Usually they’d been opportunistic burglaries which would’ve have been easily preventable or a break-in to get quick money. This one, however, didn’t seem to fit into either of the categories. Nothing was stolen, but a big mess was created.
He opened the fridge to check the amount of eggs and bacon for their breakfast the next morning when his gaze fell on the school’s newsletter with Addison’s picture in it. Leaning against the bench, he closed his eyes focussing on her image from earlier in the day in his mind. Tears running down her cheeks, and her small body against his.
Raking his left hand through his hair, he grabbed his phone with the other and gave Connor a call.
“How are you?” his friend asked.
“I need a favour, mate. Emily still with you?”

4 starsThe Romance Review – NEW BEGINNINGS is a very emotional read, one that is heartwarming as well as heart wrenching. It gives you hope in the act of human kindness and that good things do happen to good people. I highly recommend this book.
