Flynn shook his head in disbelief. “What about Jenny and Carl?”
Teresa looked surprised. “Your parents? No. And since they moved a few years back, I wouldn’t even know how to contact them.”
William stood up to face Flynn. “Son, she’s a beautiful little girl, and as they say, the
apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
Flynn checked the time on his wristwatch. “I’ll be here tomorrow again, same time.”
He walked off again. He needed air. Needed to try and digest all the information he had just been given. Needed to sort his head before he would be able to focus on a calm conversation. And he needed air to breathe and to fill his body with… with something.
After all, he had just become a dad.

Today’s hook

ELY LENNOX GRABBED his tool belt and slid behind the wheel of his ute. Still struggling with the guilt of not showing up to the blind date the previous evening—not to mention his lack of sleep last night—his mood was at an all-time low. He’d run into Olivia’s mum, Georgia, at the local shop the day before. She’d 3D-Little Beginningsbeen on the phone with Olivia, and not having a pleasant conversation. Cheeks red from anger, she’d told Ely that her daughter was setting up Georgia’s cousin with a blind date. He’d obviously been all ears by then, figuring out that he was the blind date.
“So, what’s wrong with that?” he asked, his curiosity spiked.
She’d let out a long breath. “There’s nothing wrong with that.” Georgia lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “Jeri’s turning forty soon. She needs to meet someone solid and mature. Not one of Olivia’s immature friends.”

Blurb:
A blind date that doesn’t happen might lead to love.
After her divorce, Jeri Belmont moved to Hobart and now runs a successful art gallery. When her niece sets her up with a neighbour, Jeri expects a blind date like all the others. But she never expected her date wouldn’t even sow up because of
her age. Despite feeling unjustly judged, when she unexpectedly runs into him
again, she finds it hard to ignore Ely’s charm.
Ely Lennox knows he shouldn’t have skipped the blind date because of the lady’s
age. After all, it had only been a date, not a lifetime commitment. When his carpentry business takes him right to the woman he bailed out on, his guilt
turns into regret when he finds out she’s everything a man could hope for. How
can he convince Jeri he made a big mistake?
Will she forgive him? Or is she hiding behind something else?

Suddenly Flynn stood, anger and confusion boiling within. “Having a mature
conversation with you is the last thing on my mind. You have no idea what I’d like to do with you.” He stalled for a moment and heard William’s voice.
Teresa opened her mouth to respond, but William held her arm. ”Tess, love. Leave
him be. For once, don’t have the last word.”
An overload of emotions stirred in Flynn — grief, sadness, confusion, and anger.
Flynn stormed off.
Out of the corner of his eye, Flynn noticed William watching him. He reached the
café’s entrance and then turned to go back. Each hesitant step Flynn was making was like climbing a high mountain. Breathing became hard. Focusing on what to say or even think nearly impossible. But he knew he had to do this. Could do it!
“Does she know?” Flynn asked when he reached the table.
“Her name is Nadine,” Teresa emphasised.
Flynn noticed William’s hand on her arm, giving her slight squeeze. “Yes she does,”
William answered calmly.
He cursed under his breath. “Everybody but me seems to know.” Flynn worked hard not to let his temper get the better of him again. He blew out a breath and asked, “Why are you here?”
“You have the right to know. And she’s got that right as well.”

Reblogged: A to Z Challenge 2016: T is for Two @jandsmatt

Today, in the A to Z Challenge, we give the stage to the letter T. T can stand for many things: talking, torment, twins–any one of which I could’ve blogged about, but instead I chose to write about two. Two what? you ask. Two books with the same title, written months apart by two authors who didn’t even know one another at the time the books were written.

The two books in question are both titled, Echoes of the Past, and the authors are myself and  Iris Blobel. That’s right. A Canadian author and an Aussie one–how much farther apart can you get? The world really has shrunk!

So, let’s look at the books. Here is Iris Blobel Echoes of the Past ECHOES OF THE PAST by Iris Blobel. It’s part of her Fermosa Bay Series, Book #1. The contemporary romance was released February 16, 2016.

About the Book:

Emily Bradshaw waited over twenty years to see Connor again…

When her childhood friend, Connor Walsh, returns home to see his ailing father, Emily is elated to be reunited with the handsome man who moved to London so many years ago. But excitement fades to disappointment when he doesn’t remember her—or their first kiss. With her crush on Connor still in full swing, she’s determined to enjoy the short time he’s in Fermosa Bay, even though she knows her heart will break when he returns to his life in London.

When Connor receives news that his biological father is terminally ill, he returns to Fermosa Bay, Australia.

With memories of his childhood tucked fondly in the back of his mind, returning to the small, coastal town leaves him to wonder how life would have been if his mother had never taken him away. Would he have been married and had children? Perhaps with Emily Bradshaw…

Secrets from long ago begin to unfold…

As Connor and his father grow closer, Connor learns his parents have a broken love story of their own. Will the echoes of the past lure him into staying, maybe for good? Or will he relive his parents’ tragic story and flee to London?

Walking away from a real chance at true love…

Today’s hook
“Do you need help for Sophie’s exhibition?”
When Jeri arrived in Hobart about ten years earlier after her divorce from her husband, she’d decided to take life in her own hands and do whatever she liked — well more or less. One of the things that she’d wanted to do was open a gallery for local artists and designers displaying photography, sculptures, prints, and paintings. Most of the items were for sale. It’d been a rough first year, but when Jeri had met Sophie O’Connor, she’d invited her to exhibit some of her photos, word got out, and she’d been busy ever since.
“That’d be lovely,” she finally said. “It’s still a mess, because Sophie agreed with other artists to display their items if they agreed to donate. I’m way behind with the cataloguing.”
“I’ll be there on Wednesday.”
“Still not back at uni?”
“Not until mid-February.”
Jeri sighed. “That’s the life.” She leaned in and placed a kissed on Olivia’s cheek.
“Catch you on Wednesday, honey.”

“Her name is Nadine.”
His thumb trailed over his bottom lip. “What makes you think she’s mine?”
Teresa straightened up in her seat. “There had been only one man in Sarah’s life.”
“She told me there was someone else, and that was why she didn’t come to live with me in Melbourne,” he countered too quickly. Taking a deep breath, he calmed
himself, because the last thing he wanted was to lose his cool.

Teresa’s demure smile seemed strained. “And anything else but a man doesn’t come to mind? Of course, you obviously thought of a man, didn’t you! She was talking
about Nadine. Not sure what she saw in you, though, but there was never ever
anybody else. And as soon as Nadine was born, there was just no time for a
man.”

I moved a little further along – this is later in the day, but you will find out what else Teresa had in store for him.
Flynn walked into his kitchen, sweat trickling down his face, his back wet from perspiration and his breathing still ragged. He grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and downed it in almost one go. Even jogging for a few kilometres didn’t clear his mind. He was still trying to comprehend what had happened earlier that day. Saz, his beautiful Saz, was dead. No more touching her beautiful skin. No more
feeling her warm lips. No more – anything! Wrong. There was something – Nadine.
A small girl who was a part of him. A small girl whom he had not known about,
and whom he was supposed to meet the following day. You have a daughter. The
words drummed through his head, and his usually calm and collected thoughts were doing a rollercoaster ride up there – it scared him.
He took a drink out of the fridge and tried to recall what had been said earlier.
