Today’s hook

3D-Little Beginnings Jeri’s gaze went to his hand on her arm and she was momentarily startled by her body’s reaction to his touch. Then she yanked back. “I don’t drink.”
Ely raised a curious brow.
Closing her eyes for small instant, she took a deep breath before she apologised. “Sorry. I’m having a bit of a rough time at the moment.”
He nodded “We all have them.”
She looked around herself. “Thanks for covering up the floor and the furniture.”
Lifting his shoulder in a shrug, he said  nonchalantly, “It was the magic of the wand.”
Why was she surprised that he made her laugh again?
“Considering that you don’t believe in magic, you use it quite a bit.”
He chuckled and good grief, even that simple sound made her quiver.
“The customer is king.”
Hands on hips, eyebrows arched, she said, “Do I look like a man?”
Ely grabbed his keys and held them up. “Now heading to the hardware store.”
Jeri stared at the door through which her carpenter had left. She was so taken
aback by the fact he’d never replied that her jaw was still open.
Then she heard him call from down the hallway. “Only a fool would mistake you
for a man.”

 Blurb:
A blind date that doesn’t happen might lead to love.
After her divorce, Jeri Belmont moved to Hobart and now runs a successful art gallery. When her niece sets her up with a neighbour, Jeri expects a blind date like all the others. But she never expected her date wouldn’t even sow up because of
her age. Despite feeling unjustly judged, when she unexpectedly runs into him
again, she finds it hard to ignore Ely’s charm.
Ely Lennox knows he shouldn’t have skipped the blind date because of the lady’s
age. After all, it had only been a date, not a lifetime commitment. When his carpentry business takes him right to the woman he bailed out on, his guilt
turns into regret when he finds out she’s everything a man could hope for. How
can he convince Jeri he made a big mistake?
Will she forgive him? Or is she hiding behind something else?

Little Beginnings by Iris Blobel is a wonderful love story about a 38 year old woman who learns to trust a man again, and who comes to realise that there is no obstacle two people in love can’t overcome. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters who were a memorable addition to the story, and I loved the humourous dialogue, the story’s emotional depth, and the engaging plot. This is a character driven story which I loved from beginning to end and I’m sure you will too!

I’d like to introduce you to one of my earlier books. I received my rights back after three wonderful years with a publisher, and it’s now time to fly solo. The book will be out late July. If you’re interested in helping spreading the word, please let me know. I’d appreciate it.
The story is set in Hobart, Tasmania, where Sophie and Mia have inherited a house – from a stranger.

accent-clipart-13309573511112670181decorative-lines-2_large

Only a week earlier, Sophie had received the call from Mr. O’Connor telling her about an inheritance. Initially, she’d thought it had been a horrible joke when he’d given her details on where to pick up airplane tickets to Hobart. It was important for her to come, he’d explained. Some legality she hadn’t understood. Something about her having to sign documents for the transfer of ownership of some assets. It’d sounded too farfetched at the start, but after some research on the firm with the help of a friend, it sounded valid, and she’d hoped her life was finally turning around for the better.
Mr. O’Connor let out a long sigh. “Ms. Bellinger was one of the partner’s clients. I was only given the details shortly after the client’s death.”

Today’s hook

3D-Little Beginnings Jeri watched Ely walk to his car. He looked ragged with his dark hair tousled, but sexy in his jeans and plain black T-shirt. She remembered the colour of his eyes, like the blue of the ocean. Smiling, she placed her cup on the bench and thought about his
comment it’s kind of on the tip of my tongue to call you a liar.
She liked his twisted honesty.
When she walked into her office, she was surprised to see that he’d made an effort to cover most of her furniture and carpet. A man who thought about the mess his work created. She started to like him.
“Forgot my keys.”
Jeri whirled around in surprise and almost lost her balance.
He reached for her arm. “Whoa, what did you have in that tea?”

“I believe she was a distant relative of yours. I’m afraid I don’t have any further details.”
Sophie arched an eyebrow in disbelief, doubting the accuracy of it all. Not only did she try not to question his competence as a lawyer, but she also hoped it wasn’t a dreadful misunderstanding.
With a slight shrug of her shoulder, she asked, “Why not?”
He met her gaze steadily. “Pardon me?”
Sitting up straight, she repeated, “Why not? Why aren’t there any further details?”
He rubbed his chin with his fingers, his unease now obvious, and although she almost felt sorry for him, she tried not to care. She needed to know more. And not just the what, but why and who as well.

Sophie Levesque stared at the attorney in front of her, waiting for some answers. She and her little sister, Mia, had been quietly sitting in Mr. O’Connor’s office for more than half an hour, learning about the details of their inheritance. Once he was finished, silence hung in the air before she asked with raised eyebrows.
“Who?”

“Clara Catherine Bellinger.”
Mia leaned closer to her elder sister and gave a soft tug on Sophie’s shirt. “Who is she?”
Sophie shrugged. “I wouldn’t have a clue.” Then turned her attention back on Mr. O’Connor and asked the same thing. “Who is she?”

Today’s hook

This time, a small smile spread across her face, and it was the 3D-Little Beginningsreal thing, and
everything inside him reacted. Without waiting for a verbal reply, he turned and headed towards his car. He thought about Jeri. Everything about her was so confusing. She’d come across determined and headstrong when they’d discussed the shelving in that backroom, yet always wary and rarely giving him a smile. Then there was the magic she’d asked for, her comment about it not hurting to dream had thrown him a bit. But what was it with the tears? He was interested to know, mainly because he was a curious guy by nature, but also because it didn’t fit into her character — as far as he was concerned anyway.

“There he is,” she said to Nadine as she leaned down to her face.
They both walked towards Flynn who must have had an idea the girl was his – he
followed each of their steps as they came closer.
Emma’s knees grew weaker with every step. What if she couldn’t say a word, either?
My, he looked gorgeous. She took Nadine’s hand and stopped in front of Flynn, noticing how the girl moved more and more behind her. “Flynn McCormack?” Emma asked.
***
Surprised, Flynn turned from the child to the young woman. “Yes.”
“How are you? I’m Emma, and this is–” she pointed at Nadine, “–this is Nadine. I’ve
been looking after her and I was asked–”
Ignoring Nadine’s companion, he kneeled down in front of the girl and rested his arm on his leg. “Hey, little Muffin!”
“Hi.” Nadine’s reply was shy, nothing more than just a whisper.
They both looked at each other.
“Are you my dad?” Nadine asked with slightly more voice, but still hiding behind
Emma.

Today’s hook

The morning went by quickly, and it was just before noon when Ely went in
search for Jeri. He found her in a little kitchen, absentmindedly dipping the tea bag in her cup. He was close enough to see tears on her face. When Jeri saw him, she wiped them away with an angry swipe of her hand and got to her feet.
“How can I help you?” she said, with the same smile from earlier that morning.
The smile that didn’t make it to her eyes.3D-Little Beginnings
The question Are you all right? hung on the tip of his tongue, but he wouldn’t go there. A woman in tears was a recipe for disaster. He’d learnt that more than once from his sister and the occasional girlfriend.
“I’ve got to head out and grab some material,” Ely said.
She took a deep sigh, grabbed her tea, and stepped towards him. “I forgot to tell you that you’re more than welcome to use the kitchen.”
“Thanks, but I grabbed something on the way.”
He was about to turn and head out when he stopped. “To ask whether you’re okay
seems ridiculous, but I…” He scratched the back of his head. “I…”
“I’m fine,” she reassured him. Yet, there was no smile on her face and her
expression didn’t give anything away.
“It’s kind of on the tip of my tongue to call you a liar, but I’d better not,
considering that I need the money from this job.”

Emma kneeled next to her and held both Nadine’s hands. The right words escaped her, and she had no idea what to say. Her heart ached looking into the girl’s eyes. Admiration towards her grew more and more. “Honey, I honestly don’t know, but I can’t see a reason why he wouldn’t. You’re a gorgeous young girl.” She tucked a strand of hair behind Nadine’s ear. “He’s probably just as afraid as you are at the moment. Afraid of having a little girl all of a sudden.”
Nadine threw her arms around Emma’s neck and sobbed. “What if he doesn’t like me? Then I have nobody to look after me.”
A knot formed in Emma’s stomach. “Naddie, honey. Of course he’ll like you, and you will still have your grandparents.” Emma gave her a long hug before taking her hand. “Let’s get to meet your dad. I’ll be with you all the way.”
The girl wiped the tears with the back of her hand. “Promise?”
“Pinky swear.” They both hooked up their little fingers and pulled. And a hesitant smile returned to Nadine’s face.
Once they returned to the hotel, Emma spotted Flynn in the lobby straight away. How could she miss him? He sat in the corner near the window, sunlight reflecting on his hair. Dressed again in a neat business suit, his sunglasses on top of his head, he seemed to stare into the distance. The way his hands fiddled with a plastic
bag, she assumed he was just as nervous.
