I’m Science Fiction author Kayelle Allen. I did a tour in the US Navy, where I climbed around airplanes fixing black boxes that helped pilots find their way home. I wrote my first novel at 18 but to this day, it’s hidden under my bed, where (trust me) it will remain. Gems from it, however, launched several series in my galaxy-wide universe of stories. From childhood, I was the victim of an overactive imagination and inherited the Irish gift of gab from my mother. From my father, I got a healthy respect for mechanical things. Small wonder I write Science Fiction and Fantasy peopled with misbehaving robots, mythic heroes, role playing immortal gamers, and warriors who purr.
I’m a member of RomVets, a group of military and former military women who write romance. In 2014, I was awarded an honorary lifetime membership to the OutlantaCon Science Fiction Convention for support of the convention since its debut. I founded Marketing for Romance Writers (more about them below), and today it has over 7k members. I also lead a writer’s group in my community. Now that I’m retired, I stay busier than ever. I’ve been married so long I’m tenured.

Insults for a King, from Bringer of Chaos by Kayelle Allen @kayelleallen #SciFi

In the book Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire, the main character is Pietas, an immortal king in exile. His friend, Six, is quasi-immortal. Six was once human, but was infused with the blood of Pietas’s people to enable him to kill their kind. These two were mortal enemies from the moment they were born, yet against all odds and reason, they’ve become friends.
Several times in the story, Six finds ways to needle Pietas. Predictably, the king reacts. The banter between these two is a joy to write. I love finding ways to bring out their frenemy background. Here’s an example. Since Six was once the ultimate enemy of Pietas’s people, the man refuses to identify himself and accepts the name Six that Pietas had given him. Pietas, on the other hand, refuses to allow anyone to nickname him, so of course, Six has.

This scene is from book one, the Origin of Pietas.

“Six, you’ve been good to me. I appreciate it. I don’t say that enough.”
“No problem. Glad to do it, Three Point One Four.”
“Three point…” Pietas grappled with what the number might indicate. “Pardon?”
“I’ve decided that’s your name. Now that we’re friends.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Your name.” Six sat up. “Since you call me Six, I’m going to call you Three Point One Four.”
“I fail to see the significance of the number.”
“Really?” A big grin crossed Six’s face. “And here I thought you were good at math. It’s pi.”
“No!” Pietas sat bolt upright. “I forbid you to call me that. I am Pietas. Pee-ah-toss. You may not call me Pi.”
“Why not?”
“It is not my name!”
“Oh, you mean like Six isn’t mine. It’s a number.”
“Simple remedy. Tell me your name.”
The quiet lengthened, but then Six stretched both arms over his head, and gave a wide yawn. “Nah. I don’t think so.”
“Fine, then.” Pietas settled himself on the ground once more. “Six it is.”
“Guess I’m stuck with it.” He grinned at Pietas as he stood. “Pi.”
Pietas sent an empathic icicle Six’s way. Infuriating person!
“Back at you, Ultra.”

And this is from book two, Forged in Fire.

“Pi, look at this view!”
The nickname irked. He’d asked Six to drop it, to no avail. Pee-ah-toss, he ranted in silence. Not Pi. Pee-ah-toss. I can hear you thinking. You know that, right?”
Then you know what I’m thinking now.
Same to you, Ultra. Besides, you call me Six. I call you Pi. Suits you.” Six is an integer. Pi is an irrational number.”
The man shot him a smile. “Like I said.”
Both books reveal the friendship between these two, and each has an adventure that takes them on a perilous journey. In Forged in Fire, Pietas reunites with a beautiful telepathic warrior he’s loved for lifetimes. He also forms a bond with a sentient panther named Tiklaus. This ginormous beast protects Pietas and follows him everywhere. Like any cat, it demands attention, and–when no one is looking–belly rubs, which the exiled king is happy to provide.

I hope your readers will take a peek inside both books. They can download the first three chapters of each on my website. Both are available on Amazon and in print. Forged in Fire is free on Kindle Unlimited.

Bringer of Chaos: the Origin of Pietas
A captive of the people he loathes, the immortal Pietas is left for dead on the planet Sempervia. Six, a human soldier who is abandoned with him, offers food and water. Is this man worthy of friendship? Or is this another trap?
Either way, Pietas must do the one thing he detests. Trust a human…

Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire
When the immortal Pietas is marooned on a barren world with no food and few survival tools, he knows it could be worse. He could be alone. But that’s the problem. He’s not.
Half a million of his people sleep in cryostasis, trapped in their pods and it’s up to Pietas to rescue them. Before he can save his people, he must take back command from a ruthless enemy he’s fought for centuries. His brutal, merciless father. Immortals may heal, but a wound of the heart lasts forever…
