#MFRWHooks “…yet, she smiled.” #MFRWorg #amreading #KindleUnlimited

Happy Wednesday everyone.
I hope you enjoyed last week’s snippet from ” Journey to her Dreams “. Today I’d like “to hook you” with another teaser.
ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

With an almost feral scowl, he forcefully rejected her in return, the movement so sudden and fierce as he pushed her against the wall, she not only hit her head, but it also drove all the air from her lungs.
Despite the pain, relief rushed through her as she watched him walk into the bathroom. Taking a couple of small, easy breaths, she retreated into the guest room down the hallway, where she took a little teddy bear out of the bottom drawer in the cupboard and sat on the bed. Cradling her companion, she ignored the tears that trickled down her face.
She quickly swiped her cheeks when he came towards the room and carefully placed her teddy bear back into the rear of the drawer underneath a pink and yellow baby blanket.
“How about I prepare us a nice dinner?” he offered, the expressionless look on his face upsetting her even more.
Yet, with all the strength she was able to come up with, she smiled. It took so much effort and was as painful as what had just happened…yet, she smiled. “Sounds good,” was all she was able to say.

BLURB:

There must be a reason for her dreams…

Hollie Anderson, a young woman living in Tasmania, is content with life, even more so since she has met Jeremy. However, she has been having a recurrent dream that impacts her daily life, as well as her relationship, a dream that eventually takes her on a journey to Ireland.

Samantha Shaughnessy enjoys the success as Head of Advertising for a popular magazine in the Irish capital Dublin. Married to Padraic, she thinks she loves her husband, but when she meets Hollie under unusual circumstances, she needs to face the truth–and not just about her marriage.

When both women meet and find they share an unexpected tie to the past, will they finally be able to move on into relationships with the men they love?

Happy Wednesday everyone.
… and welcome September … SPRING at this end of the world. Can’t wait for some warmer weather.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed last week’s snippet from “Echoes of the Past“. Today I’d like “to hook you” with a teaser from “Journey to her Dreams“.
ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Her body trembled. With angst choking her, she begged him, “Please don’t.”
He took her hands and lifted them over her head as he pressed his body against hers. “Come on, baby. Don’t be like that,” he insisted, tracing her jaw with his lips. “It’s been a while.”
“Please stop. I’m really tired,” she pleaded as she tried to pull her hands out of his.
He looked at her with a slight grin. “Baby, you’re always tired.”
Her efforts to push him away were in vain. His tight grip around her wrists didn’t give her a chance to move out of his arms. Disappointed by him, she dropped her head, denying him her lips.
“I love you, sweetheart,” he murmured.
She was barely able to speak and each word she spoke hurt her throat. “Please,” she begged again, nearly sobbing. “Please don’t.”
He lowered his head, flicking her earlobe with his tongue. “Baby, I want you.”
She knew then she was fighting in vain. He wasn’t going to listen. With his body pressed against hers, his breathing became heavier. Turning her head away even more from him, she closed her eyes as pain shot through her body.

Hollie couldn’t take her eyes off his brown hair, his green
eyes, and his well-tanned face. This guy had an obvious ability to
keep the conversation flowing, and she found herself unable to
resist his soft-spoken voice. Before long, her tension eased a bit. She told him about her job and how she knew Davo. He did likewise and told her about his move from Hobart. She decided to like him, yet she wanted to go back to the comfort zone of her friends,
mainly Alex.
“Listen, Jeremy. It was nice meeting you, but I’ve truly have to go. There are still a few things I need to get sorted, and I don’t want to be too late  tonight,” Hollie said, pointing to her watch as a sign to Alex she wanted to leave.
He reached out and caught her hand in his. “How about I give you a lift?”
Looking at him, she couldn’t resist and smiled. “You are a persistent fellow, aren’t you?”

“Hi,” she stuttered. “Actually, thanks, but no thanks.”
“Hey, just this one,” he persisted.
“Honestly, I don’t think it would be fair. My friend is waiting for me to bring her a glass of water. Next time perhaps,” she heard herself saying. There was something inside her that wasn’t ready yet for the whole flirting and dating business.
But Jeremy wouldn’t take no for an answer. “How about you take the water over and come back for your drink?”
Hollie exhaled a small breath. He’d cornered her, and she didn’t like it. But there was something about him she wasn’t able to resist. She stared at him, and his mischievous eyes prolonged the moment.
Crap! And stupid me for melting in those green eyes.
There was nothing left to do but give in. “Okay, I’ll be right back.” She picked up the glass of water and made her way through the masses back again to Alex. “This guy just invited me for a drink,” she said to Alex.
“Who?”
Hollie glanced uneasily over her shoulder. “Jeremy.”
“Great. So what are you doing here then?” Alex teased. “Off you go, this is your chance. He is quite a hunk, isn’t he?”
“I’d appreciate a bit of help here, Alex. What am I supposed to do?”
Alex shook her head. “You’re nuts, Hollie. Look at him. A dream of a man. And…if all else fails, at least you saved some money on a lemon vodka.” Alex grinned mischievously at her and pushed her off the seats. “Go, for heaven’s sake. You’re beautiful, intelligent, and all the other things. Just go.”
So Hollie returned to Jeremy, who was talking to another guy. Her heart thudded loudly, and she wasn’t all that sure about this idea anymore. When Jeremy saw her stepping closer, though, he broke into a leisurely smile.
“Here’s your drink.” He handed over the lemon vodka.
“Thanks.” Hollie was so nervous she was hardly able to speak, let alone think about what to say to him.

Thirsty from their dancing, the girls made their way towards
the bar, but stopped right next to Davo, who happily told them a
bit more about Jeremy.
“Yeah, that’s Jez. He’s only been in town for a few weeks. He’s got some management job with a new company, which only just started a business here. You know, the one just near the airport, don’t you?” Davo stared questioningly at the girls, but they shook their heads.
“He’s a distant cousin somehow, so I invited him to come along. Mum is a close friend of his.” Before the girls were able to ask anything else, Davo had already left to chat with someone else he’d discovered in the crowd.
“Management?” Hollie wondered out loud. “No thanks. I reckon that’s way too far up my alley. Anyway, it’s my shout. What would you like?”
“I still have my drink with Ben, but some water for the throat would be nice. I’ll see you over there.”
Hollie made her way to the bar. As she struggled through the crowd, she noticed how Jeremy was watching her. A tingle shuddered through her lower body. She pretended not to be affected by his gaze, but her heart was pounding twice as fast, and her cheeks were burning. She returned his smile and took in how attractive he was, indeed. Even in the typical dimmed nightclub light, she noticed his athletic body, the short dark hair, and his
immaculate white teeth. She liked the combination of his black denim jeans, the simple white shirt, and a casual jacket with the sleeves folded to his elbows. It had been a few years since she had been filled with such inner upheaval—since she had met Jackson to be exact.
For crying out loud, Hollie, just get a grip on yourself.
It seemed a long way and a long time, but she finally got to the bar and ordered a lemon vodka as well as some water. Trying to get some change out of her tight pockets, she startled when someone spoke to her.
“May I buy you this drink?”
Hollie turned and looked straight into Jeremy’s eyes.

I’ve moved a little forward again introducing Hollie today, the main character living in Launceston, Australia.
Enjoy ♥

Hollie paced through the rooms, but for the life of her, she couldn’t find her phone. She rushed through her little apartment,
which was upstairs in the attic of the farmhouse just outside
Launceston, a small town in Australia. Seventh ring and she
stumbled over her shoes to reach it on the couch.
“Hello?” she answered out of breath.
“Hi, it’s Alex here. Lost the phone again, didn’t you?”
“I sort of had a feeling it would be you who kicked me out of bed at this unearthly hour of the day,” Hollie said, holding back a yawn.
“So tell me,” Alex begged her friend. “What happened? I want to know every tiny little detail.”
Hollie laughed, though she didn’t feel like it at all. In fact, the previous night had been a bit of a disaster, to say the least.

****

Alex had lost the toss to drive into town that night, and she was about to pick up Hollie, who was still wrapped in her bath towel, considering, choosing, and still not knowing what to wear for the night. She went back into the bathroom and applied her makeup. Hollie always made sure she didn’t use too much, just enough for her bright blue eyes to stand out. She checked in the mirror and smiled as she remembered her dad’s words: You’re cute as a button.
“What on earth does that mean, Dad?” she would ask him in a sulky voice.
He would point at her mother’s photo and say, “Just like your mother: a pretty young woman, with lovely golden hair, a neat figure, and a twinkle in both eyes.” And, as he touched her nose with his finger, he added, “A small nose, and a smile that lights up everyone’s world.”

I’ve moved a little forward, Sam and her friend are in a little cafe talking about their Christmas plans and Sam’s dream she’s had.

She was aware Claire disapproved of her love for flirting,  particularly since she was married, and often expressed her opinion on whether that could be a reason for Padraic’s moments of rage.
Claire gazed over the rim of her espresso cup as she took a sip. “So you’re telling me about your dreams now, because we can’t
talk about your real life?”
Samʹs eyes darted around the café in frustration. “Give it a break, Claire. I’m telling you because this one felt so real. You know, you have dreams, odd ones and mostly truly weird. This one was different. It was like somehow I sensed his touch on me.”
“Now you’re giving me shivers. Honestly, I don’t want to drag on about it, but I honestly think it’s just another sign of you and Padraic…”
Sam shook her head regretfully. “Never mind! Just forget about it.”
“Sam!”
Anger and disappointment creeping up in her, she glanced at her watch. “Sorry, Claire, I forgot to keep an eye on the time. I’d better go.”

Sam took another sip of her coffee. “We’ll be with Padraic’s
family on Christmas. The usual, you know. I’ʹll go to Mum and
Dad’s the day after. Dad’s not doing too well at the moment, so I’ʹll be staying with them for a few days.”
“The usual, indeed. Is this his excuse to go skiing?” Claire
replied with heavy irony.
“No. You know he doesn’t get along with Mum and Dad too
well. And a little break will do me good, too.”
Sam felt Claire’s gaze on her. “Sam. What you need is a big break. What is it with you? You’re beautiful. You’re intelligent. You’re successful, confident, and married to a husband who doesn’t appreciate you. It’s time, Sam. It’s time for a change.”
“He’s not a bad person, you know. You see some bruises and instantly assume it was Padraic. Accidents do happen. He is a caring husband. And he is extremely successful and easy on the eyes.”
Claire shook her head. “Accidental bruises. Good one.”
Sam waved her arm in the air. She didn’t want to hear about it anymore. “Anyway, what I actually wanted to tell you about was this dream I had the other night. The weirdest one I’ve had for a while,” Sam said. “Quite bizarre, actually. There was this girl, somewhere in the countryside, who was with this truly handsome guy. Short dark hair, beautiful eyes, tall, and, boy, did he have a sexy body. Anyway, they were driving in this dashing car. Once he made a move on her in the car, she panicked and got out. Bizarre
how clear it all seemed. I can’ʹt recall ever having a dream like this.”
“Who was it?” Claire asked, and Sam knew her friend would be annoyed with the change of subject.
“No idea. But you should have seen him. No way would I have left the car.” Sam couldn’t help herself, but her mouth twitched into a grin.

“This actually suits me fine,” she finally replied after
admiring herself. “Don’t expect me in the office this afternoon. I’ll
be out for the rest of the day. I’ʹll work on the layouts for the
January edition tomorrow.” She hung up without even waiting for
a response, checked the time, and dialled a number.
“Hello?”
“Claire?” Sam opened her car and threw her bag in the back. “How about some lunch?”
“When?”
“Now.”
“Sam, seriously, someone has to tell you one day that other people actually need to work hard for their money,” Claire replied, but added, “How about I meet you in about half an hour on George Street?”
“Grand. I look forward to it.”
Sam got in her car and drove back into the main streets of Dublin. The cars ahead of her were slow, and she took a deep breath, trying to ignore her obvious dislike of the winter season. Dublin’s streets were still wet from the rain the last few days, and  Sam cursed at the glare off the street from the afternoon sun and the heavier than usual midday traffic. Christmas wasn’t far off, and the shops were doing their best to lure the customers into the main streets for some last-minute shopping—Ireland’s capital was packed. While searching for a parking spot, she noticed how many
Christmas lights had already gone up. The smell of candles and candies were in the air, which put a smile on Sam’s face. She remembered her family Christmases with great fondness. As she crossed the street, she came out of the protection of the building and was brought back to reality by the icy breeze on her face. Sam pulled the collar of her coat a tad higher in a weak attempt to shield herself from the cold air.
Approaching the café, Sam saw Claire was already waiting. When her friend started to shake her head in disbelief after studying Sam’s face, Sam chose to ignore her.
“Don’t tell me,” Claire said with a courteous but patronising voice.
“Okay, I won’t,” Sam said casually as she greeted Claire with a kiss on the cheek.
Claire flashed a look of frustration. “You know exactly what I mean. He did it again, didn’t he?”

Take control of your future today.
Sam rolled her eyes and shook her head at the sleazy slogan on the back of the bus. Yet, it gave her an idea, and she was thinking about a possible Mega Rear ad on the Dublin bus when her phone announced an incoming call.
“Good morning, it’s Phoebe here–”
But her assistant didn’t have a chance to finish the sentence. “Phee, I’m on my way to the office. I’ve only just come out of the meeting with Mr. Fitzgerald.”
It was a convenient lie.
“Give me ten minutes.”
Phoebe persisted with her message, though. “The meeting this afternoon with Mr. Jackson has been cancelled. He’s still out of town. The new appointment will be next Wednesday, same time.”
As Sam strode by the shop window, she admired her  reflection. She liked what she saw. So what? She was vain, but appearance was important to her, and she loved to accentuate the main feature in her face—her beautiful, bright blue eyes. She watched herself in the window, her long legs seeming even longer in her new high heels—which had cost a fortune—her delicate fingers proudly showing off her wedding ring, the diamond earrings, and her cheeks, which had turned slightly rosy after the facial.
