#MFRWHooks “You know all his secrets?” #Romance #Mustread #reading #NZ

Today’s Hook:

‘‘How did you get my number?”
“I hit the redial button,” he replied, as if surprised by her question.
A smile twitched at Tiffany’s lips. He knew how to help himself. And he cared. “It’s Tiffany. My name is Tiffany.”
“Nice meeting you, Tiffany, even though it’s over the phone. So, you’re sure you’re okay?”
Tiffany hesitated, but noticed how talking to him calmed her. A quietness inside her began to push away the troubling fears, helping her to relax. “Who are you?”
‘‘My name’s Mat, but I’ve already told you that.”
There was no malice in his voice. She sat on one of the chairs, her body relaxing bit by bit. “Steve never mentioned someone called Mat.”
He laughed. “You know all his secrets?”
“No. But, considering I’m his best friend, I believe, he would have mentioned a friend staying with him.”
“Let me think, I can’t recall him mentioning your name, either.”
His voice had a teasing tone, and Tiffany was starting to like him. It was exactly what she needed after opening the door to the police.

BLURB:
Pikorua, the Maori name for the symbol, is a twist that is said to symbolise the strength of the bond between two people. Mat is certain there is something between Tiffany and him.

When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories flood her mind of the previous year and a relationship gone bad. Frightened, she calls her friend, Steve, for help, but instead a stranger answers the phone. Little does Tiffany know how much this New Zealander is going to impact her life, especially after she is assaulted only a few hours later.

Mat Apanui, the owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can’t ignore the worry in Tiffany’s voice when he answers Steve’s phone. Before he knows it, he is spending most of his business trip to Melbourne with her. Desperate to keep her safe after an attack, he invites her to stay with him in Queenstown, NZ.

With her safety at risk, how will Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust the sexy stranger enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

I started this story a few weeks ago and I hope you’re enjoying it so far. I’m not sure where it’s heading, so any comments / critique is more than welcomed. I moved a little forward, back into Jesse’s POV – having a beer with his friends, Noah and Harrison.

Enjoy ♥

“Oh well, there’s a new lawyer in town who might need a bit of help,” Noah replied as a slow grin spread across his face.
“Give it a break,” Jesse snapped.
“Oh, for Christ’s sake. Evie walked out on you because you focussed too much on caring for your sister. It’s time to have some me-time,” Harrison countered.
“And out of all people you believe Lexie should be part of my me-time?” Jessie asked.
“You like her.”
“I don’t even know her.”
Noah’s grin grew wider. “Who’s Evie?”
“Jesse’s girlfriend from a few years back,” Harrison explained. “Everyone had them married and a happily ever after until Dana moved in.”
Noah cocked a brow.
“She wasn’t big on the idea of me sharing and caring for my sister.”
“I’d say in this case it was good riddance, right?” Noah asked.
Jesse lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “I guess in a way.”
Noah leaned forward and crossed his arms on the table. “I’m sure Molly wouldn’t mind to look after the little girl for an evening so you can take Lexie out for a dinner.”
Rubbing both hand over his face, Jesse replied, “Your wife’s only just had a baby and probably wanting all the sleep she can get.”
“Oh well. If Molly’s too tired, I’m sure Melody would be happy to do it,” Harrison suggested with a grin.
Jesse stood abruptly. “What is this shit? Cupid’s bar?” And without any more words stormed out of the pub and walked home.
Dinner with Lexie?
A small smile tugged at his lips, but as soon as he thought it, he dismissed the idea again remembering his friend’s words lacking people’s skill.

#MFRWHooks “This person definitely had a little Kiwi accent.” #Romance #Mustread #reading #NZ

Today’s Hook:

“My name is Mat. Can I leave him a message?”
Running a hand through her short hair, she racked her brain to put one and one together. This person definitely had a little Kiwi accent. But who the hell was he?
His next question hauled her back to their conversation. “Are you okay?”
“Of course I am. Please let him know I called,” she snapped, still out of sorts, and hung up, never giving him a chance to reply.
Breathing hard, she tried to calm herself and reduce the adrenaline that had shot through her and left her shaking all over. She took another deep breath before she walked to the sink to rinse her clammy hands and make a cup of tea. The sound of the phone made her jump, and she rushed back to grab it, nearly knocking over the vase of flowers, cursing the police all the way as well as Hudson, the bastard, who had left her in hospital bruised and beaten up last year.
“Steve?”
“It’s Mat. How about you tell me your name so I can ask Steve to return your call?”
‘‘How did you get my number?”

“I’m not smitten,” he replied through gritted teeth. “All part of a ranger’s day at work.”
The sudden burst of laughter from his friends made him cringe and he was about to leave when Harrison asked, “If you say so. Anyway, how’s Dana?”
Jesse blew out a breath. It was a much safer topic, although not at all easier. “She’s settling well in Melbourne,” he explained with a hint of melancholy as well as relief.
“Living on her own?”
“Kind of. She’s got a small apartment in care like facility. She shares it with her new man, Mario.”
It was still hard to talk about his sister. After her stroke a year earlier, Dana had moved in with him and he’d cared for her as best as possible, with the help of a nurse.
“Hard to let go?” Harrison wanted to know.
“She’s worked hard the last few months. Living independently with Mario will do her good.” He expelled a long breath. “Hard to get used to the empty house, though.”
“Oh well, there’s a new lawyer in town who might need a bit of help,” Noah replied as a slow grin spread across his face.

About ALL I WANT IS YOU

You met them in DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME. Now prepare to fall in love with THE YOUNGERS, a brand-new series from Iris Morland, full of sexy men, passionate women, and the love stories you can’t get enough of.

A brilliant, aloof lawyer, Phin Younger has focused solely on his career and on helping people less fortunate.

Living his life without romance? He’s just fine with that. Phin knows all too well how relationships make life messy and complicated.

Until the day Emily Lassiter begs Phin to help her teenage brother. Beautiful but as fierce as a lioness, Emily is like no other woman he’s met.

Suddenly, all of Phin’s plans to avoid romantic entanglements are thrown out the window the moment he sets eyes on Emily.

A former model, Emily now struggles to make ends meet for herself and for her teenage brother Josh. When Josh commits a crime that could put him behind bars for years, she turns to her brother’s court-appointed lawyer, Phin Younger, for help.

But Emily never expected that her brother’s lawyer would be young and handsome. And she definitely never expected that Phin’s kiss would heat a need inside her that soon transforms into a conflagration.

When these two can no longer deny their feelings for each other, an embittered rival of Phin’s threatens to destroy his career, dragging Emily into the scandal.

Now these star-crossed lovers must overcome the fears that hold them captive—or face a future without the love that could set them both free.

#CoverReveal “FALL” by Kristen Callihan – @InkSlingerPR

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways.

In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip.

Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands.

Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor.

An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room.

Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun.

Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything.

All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

Today’s Hook:

She nodded, appreciating him leaving the card in the door and not insisting on opening up.
“Will you be okay, Miss Cahill?” This time Jones asked.
The simple answer was no, but again, she nodded, hoping for this nightmare to end soon.Senior Constable Jones and Sergeant Harris left, and Tiffany watched them drive off in their car. Only then did she close the door, leaning against it, and then slowly sliding down. Clasping her legs against her chest, she laid her head on her knees and took a few deep breaths until her heart rate returned to normal.
Tiffany wasn’t sure how long she sat there before she was finally able to get up and reach the phone in the kitchen. She stared at the modern cooking area in front of her as if she was seeing it for the first time. The old wooden cupboards contrasted with her fancy new fridge and oven. The window more or less right in front of her with the view to her neglected back yard. She stepped to the wooden table near the wall and sat before dialling the familiar number. It didn’t take long for someone to answer.
“Hello?” came an unfamiliar man’s voice.
Tiffany hesitated, but hung up without giving it a second thought. Checking the numbers by pushing redial, she pressed connect when she was sure. With her heartbeat up a notch, she focussed.
“Hello?” the same man answered, this time with irritation.
Frayed with confusion, she moved her mouth soundlessly until she got her bearings, “Uhm, can I talk to Steve, please?”
“He’s not home.”
“Who…who are you?”

#NewRelease “TIMID” by @devneyperry ~ @InkSlingerPR ‏

Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name. Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.

Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.

A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.

“Oh.” She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “What, um . . .” Her fingers fiddled with the clip on the board. “What’s up?”
“You read my note?”
She nodded. “I did.”
“Good.” That meant we could move on from the whole me-calling-her-by-the-wrong-name thing and get to the days where she wasn’t slamming doors in my face. “Come to the bar and have dinner with me tonight.”
“Was that an invitation or a command?”
I shrugged. “Does it matter?”
She frowned and I knew immediately that wasn’t the right thing to say. Without a word, she marched toward the building between the bunkhouses marked SHOWERS.
“Hey, wait!” I ran after her, but she was walking fast. “What about dinner?”
She didn’t answer. She just kept on marching all the way to the women’s side, disappearing inside without hesitation.
Well, fuck.
I guess my note hadn’t worked after all.
I debated going inside the showers but didn’t want to terrify a young girl if Willa wasn’t alone. So with a grumble and a kick at the dirt, I went back toward the parking lot.
I didn’t miss Hazel watching from a window in the lodge, laughing her ass off. At least I was entertaining her.
She’d be in for another show soon, because I’d be back again tomorrow.
