#SnippetSunday “It’s my grandma!” #Bookish #Romance

Happy Mother’s Day ♥♥.

Thanks to everyone stopping by last week and a special thanks to those who left a comment. I really appreciate it.
I’m re-posting a story which I started a many years ago. It’s written in first POV, which has been a challenge to say the least. So, some of you may know the story already, but I’d appreciate constructive critique ☺

Enjoy ♥

I carefully open up the diary and flick through a first few pages. An old sepia coloured photo falls into my lap. It shows a woman with long hair. I assume it’s blonde, but it’s hard to tell with the lack of colours. The woman is smiling and squinting into the camera. She looks beautiful, even in the old-fashioned daggy clothes. I study the photo and notice she’s very skinny under the clothes. Her hair is tight up in a ponytail which hangs across her shoulder. She has beautifully shaped eyes and from the sepia colour I can only assume they are of a darker colour in real life. Her smile is genuine and I wonder about the reason is behind the smile. I hold the photo a bit closer and notice some freckles on her face. I smile. Just like me. And then I turn the photo over and read in Mum’s handwriting: Hedwig Maria Stein. It’s my grandma! I turn the photo again and have another close look. Mum always said I reminded her of Grandma. Especially my eyes. So I assume Grandma had green eyes like me. I hold my hand over her eyes on the photo and check out Grandma’s mouth. It’d be nice to think I have full lips like her. And I cannot believe what I’m seeing. I squint as I move the photo even closer. Grandma even has the small gap in her front teeth like me. Cool!

Thanks for all your comments,
I do appreciate each single one of them!

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Tamara and Markus both stared at him, and he shrugged his shoulder. “What?”
Markus lifted an eyebrow. “I seem to be missing something here.”
Tamara placed a hand on his arm. “It’s okay. I’ve been…let’s say…” She hesitated. “A bitch?” Oliver helped, but he regretted it straight away.
“I certainly have not!” she retorted before he could retract his words.
Markus had offered him the perfect chance to spend more time with her, and here he was behaving like an idiot. He tried to shake off this odd reaction inside him.
“Challenge might have been the wrong word,” he finally said.
She smiled at him and removed her hand from Markus’ arm. “Perhaps another time, but thanks for the invite. Do you play baseball?”
Markus shook his head. “Nope. Soccer.”
Then she turned and walked off. Again. Hands on hips, Oliver watched her making her way to the pier. “Can you believe this woman?”
When he didn’t get a reply, he looked at his friend. Markus was watching her as well, but with a lovestruck smile on his face. “Back off, mate. She’s trouble!”
Markus snorted. “You’re an ass. Just because she doesn’t fall for your charm, she’s trouble?”

BLURB:

Oliver Dempsey, pitcher for a Melbourne baseball club, loves the women, and they love him…
But he keeps them at an arm’s length, and when he meets Tamara, he’s unprepared for the attraction he feels for her. Told by his coach that she’s off limits, only draws him in more.

Tamara Amis moved to Melbourne to find some distance between her past and herself…
With the help of her uncle, the coach of a Melbourne baseball club, she quickly finds a job, and a place to live. Yet, one meeting with the handsome pitcher stirs unexpected emotions that threaten to overwhelm her.

It’s Oliver’s injury that brings them together, but as they find out about each other’s pasts, how can they be ready to share a future?

“This blood-pumping novel will keep the reader hooked until the very end.” InD’tale Magazine

“Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this wonderful book and fall in love.” (5 star review)

Mat is a sexy, tattooed New Zealander with a strong sense of family and duty and Tiffany is a woman with a past that continues to haunt her. Can Mat help her overcome her demons and move on with the next phase of her life? Come for the romance and stay for the breathtaking scenery. (5 star review)

4 stars – NEW BEGINNINGS is a very emotional read, one that is heartwarming as well as heart wrenching. It gives you hope in the act of human kindness and that good things do happen to good people. I highly recommend this book.

But it was Grandma’s diary! I think I was around ten or eleven when grandma died. We flew to Germany for the funeral. It was a big event, and I met a lot of people who introduced themselves as uncles, aunties, cousins, and the likes. I had no idea. Well, I was only little. Or young, even though little as well. So Mum hid this treasure from me all my young life. I’m not ten anymore, as you would’ve guessed. Yes, I have just turned thirty-one. Lost the love of my life, after we had been together for about three and a bit years, but most importantly, I lost my Mum. It took a while longer to accept those news. All of a sudden she was gone. No, it wasn’t cancer. It was her heart. Bang! One day she was happy, complaining I still hadn’t settled down, the next day – gone!

Today’s Hook:

Oliver’s jaw grew tight as he stared after her.
Markus chuckled. “Your charm doesn’t seem to work on her. What’s her problem?”
Oliver looked at his friend and shrugged, when out of the corner of his eye he noticed Tamara stopped. Head nearly on her chest and raking her hands through her long hair, she seemed to contemplate something. He hadn’t lied when he’d told her he was trying to figure her out, but he admitted the word challenge had been the wrong choice. The challenge wasn’t her per se, but figuring out what made her so jumpy. Still watching her, he hoped to get another chance to explain his unfortunate choice of words.
“I have no idea why she’s so fucked up, but we might find out,” he said quietly as he nodded towards her.
Tamara had turned around and come back. She held out her hand towards Markus. “I do apologise, Markus.” Then she took a deep breath before she continued. “The last year has been a bit rough, to say the least, but I suppose it’s no excuse for my bad behaviour. My name is Tamara. I work at the A-Stadium, where—” She pointed towards Oliver. “Where your friend does his training every week.”
Markus’ lips tugged into a grin as he followed her finger to Oliver. Then he met her eyes.
“Nice meeting you, Tamara. Wanna join us for a drink?”
“Hell no, she doesn’t,” Oliver interrupted before he could actually think about it.

I couldn’t believe it when I found Grandma’s diary in one of Mum’s boxes amongst books, magazines, records, and even a mirror, a few weeks back. It was a bit like a “wow” moment, and I remember staring at it for a while. A while that could’ve been a few seconds, or a few minutes. Who knows? I carefully touched it and gently traced the outside before I opened it. Wondering what I would find, or read, perhaps discover. Then I rolled my eyes, thinking, for God’s sake, it’s just a diary.

“Their Bond Through Jade” by Iris Blobel #Romance #MFRWAuthor #oneclick #NewZealand

“Their Bond through Jade” was probably the toughest story to write and at the same time is my favourite one. It was written during a time when I needed to escape reality … what a better place than New Zealand.

But it was also the story when something could go wrong with it, did go wrong.

Pikorua, the Maori name for the symbol, is a twist that is said to symbolise the strength of the bond between two people. Mat is certain there is something between Tiffany and him.

When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories flood her mind of the previous year and a relationship gone bad. Frightened, she calls her friend, Steve, for help, but instead a stranger answers the phone. Little does Tiffany know how much this New Zealander is going to impact her life, especially after she is assaulted only a few hours later.

Mat Apanui, the owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can’t ignore the worry in Tiffany’s voice when he answers Steve’s phone. Before he knows it, he is spending most of his business trip to Melbourne with her. Desperate to keep her safe after an attack, he invites her to stay with him in Queenstown, NZ.

With her safety at risk, how will Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust the sexy stranger enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

♥♦♥  EXCERPT ♥♦♥
When Tiffany Cahill opened the door and laid eyes on the police officers, memories flooded back of the horrid day the year before when she’d been dragged to the police station. Everything inside her tensed as she checked the lever for the screen door to make sure it was locked. She rubbed her damp palms against her pants.
“Miss Cahill?” the male police officer asked, his dark brown eyes focussing on her.
Scared, she wasn’t able to find her voice, she bit her lip and simply nodded.
“Miss Tiffany Cahill?” the female, and younger, officer asked.
Tiffany nodded again. If she focussed on the officer’s flaming red hair beneath her cap, she wouldn’t have to meet her eyes. But she allowed herself a cautious peek at the officers’ faces.
Their expressions were unreadable, which was worrying.
“I’m Senior Constable Jones. This is Sergeant Harris.” The officer paused for a moment. “We would like to ask you a couple of questions in regard to Thomas Terrill.”
“Who?” Tiffany asked, hardly above a whisper. Her whole body shook, and she knew she had to sit down soon or she’d faint.
“Thomas Terrill,” Jones repeated. “He was up on charges last year for the possession of drugs. The file states you were involved—”
“There’s no way I’ll come with you.” Her voice was louder than intended, panic rising within her. “You can’t make me—”
“Miss Cahill,” Jones said with a calm voice.
“We’re not here to take you with us, but to ask you a few questions,” Sergeant Harris explained, pulling out a little notepad from his shirt pocket, opening it with an expert snap. “Is there anybody with you at home?”
Tiffany frowned as she shook her head. Anxiety raced through the pit of her stomach, and she had to resist the urge to step back to shut the door.
“Anybody you can call?”
His voice was soothing, and when Tiffany met his eyes through the screen door, she noticed something that conveyed trust. And there was a need inside her to trust him, yet every fibre in her told her to not open the door. Never again would she let the police take her to the station and treat her like a criminal.
She bit her lip again, desperate to figure out whom to call, when she replied, “My brother.”
Harris nodded. “Thomas Terrill was charged with possession of drugs last year. You are noted as a witness.” He paused, checked his little notepad, and continued, “He’s also known as Hudson Ford.”
Leaning her head against the door, Tiffany took a deep breath to steady herself.
“Are you okay, Miss Cahill?” Harris asked.
“Please open the door,” Jones requested.
Holding up her hand, Tiffany replied, “I haven’t seen him since last year. I have nothing to do with whatever trouble he’s in.” Her entire body trembled, anxiety rushing through her like a tidal wave. She took another two deep breaths before standing straight to meet Harris’ gaze.
He searched her eyes before he assented with a nod and held out a business card. “We need to talk to you. I can assure you you’re not in trouble, but we need your help.” He squeezed the card into the small gap of the doorframe. “This is my number. Please call in when you have somebody with you, and we can have a talk.”
