I started this story last week. Hope you enjoyed the first snippet. I hope you all enjoy the story. I’m not sure where it’s heading, so any comments / critique is more than welcomed.

Enjoy ♥

Lexie stopped walking and shot around. “Look, I get it that you’re not happy with the current situation. But I’m trying my best here.” She blew out a breath to calm herself. “I don’t really think this is the right place to have this discussion, but maybe the right time for you to ponder about the alternatives. Perth, big house, your mother working massive hours to afford it, which would mean you’re in after care, or Beauty Bay, small house, hopefully we’ll find something bigger soon, and I can drop you off and pick you up from school, plus we have enough money for two holidays a year.”
Without waiting for an answer, she turned around again, but didn’t move. Exhaling another long breath, she conceded that they were lost. And it scared her. A lot.
“Mum?”
Lexie whirled around again. “What?” But as soon as she saw her daughter’s timid look in her eyes, she apologised straight away. “I’m sorry, honey. But—”
Zoe shook her head. “Mum, listen,” she said just above a whisper.
Lexie focussed and followed the girl’s gaze.
“There! A car.”
“Hallelujah,” Lexie whispered.
“Can you run?”
Hands on hips, Lexie said, “I’m old, but I’m no geriatric.”
“Well, d’oh, Mum. Then run.”

Thanks for all your comments,

  1. I had to chuckle at the last lines. 🙂 Enjoyed the snippet. Great for mother’s day too.

  2. I like the way she lays out the logic of their choices for where to live. and then the abrupt switch to the sound of the car and a change in mood was very well done! Enjoyed the excerpt…
