Today’s Hook:

She gave a slow nod. “Okay. I’ll be right back.”
Hollie took the glass of water and made her way through the crowd to Alex, trying not to spill anything.
Placing the drink on the table, she leaned a bit closer to be heard over the noise. “Jeremy just invited me for a drink.”
Alex’s eyes grew wide. “Oh, nice.” A grin spread across her face. “So, what are you doing here, then? Off you go, this is your chance. He looks gorgeous.”
“I don’t know, Alex. What am I supposed to talk to him about?”
Alex stared at her in blank incomprehension. “The weather. Everyone always talks about the weather.” She gave Hollie a not so gentle push. “Look, if all fails, at least you saved some money on a lemon vodka.”
Hollie was still hesitant. Looking from her friend to Jeremy and back, she took a deep breath to calm herself.
“Go, for heaven’s sake. You’re beautiful, intelligent, and so many other things. Just go.”
Hollie slowly turned and again struggled through the crowd as she made her way to Jeremy. When he saw her coming, he rewarded her with a smile that simply took her breath away.

When she finally reached the bar, she ordered a lemon vodka as well as some water and as she searched for some change in her tight pockets, someone spoke to her.
“May I buy you this drink?”
Hollie looked up straight into Jeremy’s eyes.
“H-hi,” she stuttered. “So now you’d like to talk to me?”
He choked back a chuckle. “I had to take a phone call. My apologies. That’s why I’d like to shout you a drink.”
It did make sense. She vaguely remembered seeing him leave the club. Biting her lip, she moved her head to find Alex in the crowd, suddenly uncomfortable without her friend. Unaware, however, of Hollie’s situation, Alex was happily chatting with Ben.
Turning back to Jeremy, Hollie answered above the background noise, “Thank you. That’s very kind of you, but no thanks.”
“Just this one,” he persisted.
“I’m sorry, but my friend is waiting for me to bring her a glass of water. Maybe next time.”
Although tempted, something inside told her she wasn’t ready, yet, for the flirting and dating business. And like so often, she cursed her dreams for her hesitation. What did they mean? Why was she having them? And who was the woman?
Thanks to those dreams, she’d been second-guessing herself more and more often when it came to men, too worried the dreams had a meaning which she still had to figure out.
“How about you take the water to your friend and then return for a drink with me?”
Hollie exhaled a long breath. He didn’t give up easily, and as much as she was uncomfortable in the situation, something about him was irresistible.
