Pikorua, the Maori name for the symbol, is a twist that is said to symbolise the strength of the bond between two people. Mat is certain there is something between Tiffany and him.

When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories flood her mind of the previous year and a relationship gone bad. Frightened, she calls her friend, Steve, for help, but instead a stranger answers the phone. Little does Tiffany know how much this New Zealander is going to impact her life, especially after she is assaulted only a few hours later.

Mat Apanui, the owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can’t ignore the worry in Tiffany’s voice when he answers Steve’s phone. Before he knows it, he is spending most of his business trip to Melbourne with her. Desperate to keep her safe after an attack, he invites her to stay with him in Queenstown, NZ.

With her safety at risk, how will Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust the sexy stranger enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

♥♦♥  EXCERPT ♥♦♥

When Tiffany Cahill opened the door and laid eyes on the police officers, memories flooded back of the horrid day the year before when she’d been dragged to the police station. Everything inside her tensed as she checked the lever for the screen door to make sure it was locked. She rubbed her damp palms against her pants.
“Miss Cahill?” the male police officer asked, his dark brown eyes focussing on her.
Scared, she wasn’t able to find her voice, she bit her lip and simply nodded.
“Miss Tiffany Cahill?” the female, and younger, officer asked.
Tiffany nodded again. If she focussed on the officer’s flaming red hair beneath her cap, she wouldn’t have to meet her eyes. But she allowed herself a cautious peek at the officers’ faces.
Their expressions were unreadable, which was worrying.
“I’m Senior Constable Jones. This is Sergeant Harris.” The officer paused for a moment. “We would like to ask you a couple of questions in regard to Thomas Terrill.”
“Who?” Tiffany asked, hardly above a whisper. Her whole body shook, and she knew she had to sit down soon or she’d faint.
“Thomas Terrill,” Jones repeated. “He was up on charges last year for the possession of drugs. The file states you were involved—”
“There’s no way I’ll come with you.” Her voice was louder than intended, panic rising within her. “You can’t make me—”
“Miss Cahill,” Jones said with a calm voice.
“We’re not here to take you with us, but to ask you a few questions,” Sergeant Harris explained, pulling out a little notepad from his shirt pocket, opening it with an expert snap. “Is there anybody with you at home?”
Tiffany frowned as she shook her head. Anxiety raced through the pit of her stomach, and she had to resist the urge to step back to shut the door.
“Anybody you can call?”
His voice was soothing, and when Tiffany met his eyes through the screen door, she noticed something that conveyed trust. And there was a need inside her to trust him, yet every fibre in her told her to not open the door. Never again would she let the police take her to the station and treat her like a criminal.
She bit her lip again, desperate to figure out whom to call, when she replied, “My brother.”
Harris nodded. “Thomas Terrill was charged with possession of drugs last year. You are noted as a witness.” He paused, checked his little notepad, and continued, “He’s also known as Hudson Ford.”
Leaning her head against the door, Tiffany took a deep breath to steady herself.
“Are you okay, Miss Cahill?” Harris asked.
“Please open the door,” Jones requested.
Holding up her hand, Tiffany replied, “I haven’t seen him since last year. I have nothing to do with whatever trouble he’s in.” Her entire body trembled, anxiety rushing through her like a tidal wave. She took another two deep breaths before standing straight to meet Harris’ gaze.
He searched her eyes before he assented with a nod and held out a business card. “We need to talk to you. I can assure you you’re not in trouble, but we need your help.” He squeezed the card into the small gap of the doorframe. “This is my number. Please call in when you have somebody with you, and we can have a talk.”

#SnippetSunday “Why on earth was she here anyway?” #Sundayblogshare #Romance

Happy Sunday ♥
I hope you’re enjoying my latest WIP which is set near
Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.
Enjoy ♥

And (she) walked along the road. It would’ve been so much better and less boring if she had charged her headphones.
So she walked. Occasionally looking over her shoulder, hoping for a car to come along. But then again, she promised her grandma she wouldn’t talk to strangers.
Why on earth was she here anyway?
To meet her father. It was enough incentive to keep going.
After a little more than an hour Lani was able to see the house in the distance. Relief rushed through her. She was thirsty and tired. And with the sun already setting over the mountains, it was about time to reach her destination. Although tempted to take another couple of pictures, she kept going.
She liked the house, despite being so far away from civilisation. It hadn’t looked that isolated on the map when she first looked for accommodation. But it was ideal and close to where she needed to go. Or in this case to find someone.
Lani stepped closer and onto the front porch. The quietness around was only disturbed by the sound of a few insects buzzing around. A shiver ran down her spine as she moved to the front door and knocked. There were no lights inside the house. It was still light, yet, she would’ve expected one or two lights on already inside.

Happy Wednesday everyone.
I hope you liked the snippets of how Oliver and Tamara met. For the next few weeks I’d like to introduce you to Markus and Sarah, the 3rd couple in the Australian Sports Stars series.
ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Although sure he had the rings, panic rose within Markus as he quickly checked his pockets to retrieve the small box. “Yes, all good.”
“Okay,” Oliver said. “See you in five.”
Markus hung up and smiled at Tyson, who was pacing up and down the small room. “Where the hell is he?”
“Wouldn’t say.”
“What do you mean he wouldn’t say?” Tyson stared at Markus. “You’ve got the rings, right?” Markus nodded. He had known Tyson and Oliver for most of his life, since before school. They’d played footy every Saturday and later on during their teenage years hung out together afterwards as well. Yet, after watching a game of soccer, Markus changed sports, and a year later, after spending a few months in the U.S., Oliver had switched to baseball. The youngest of the trio had stayed with football and was one of the most regarded players in the Australian Football League. Yet, their friendship had remained as strong as the first years and nowadays they caught up on Saturdays to watch cricket or motor racing.
Oliver came into the room. “Sorry for that.”
“You will be. Trust me, I’ll think of something to muck up your wedding day too.”
Oliver snorted, but didn’t reply. There was a gentle knock at the door and the minister opened the door. “Ready?”
The guys looked at each other and nodded in unison.

BLURB:

Markus DeLeon and Sarah Winter’s lives couldn’t be more different…

After three years away as the goalkeeper for an English soccer club, Markus has been happy to be back in Australia. He’d missed his family and friends, including Sarah. He’s known her since childhood, and often protected her from the teasing of other children and the troubling consequences of a broken home.

When they attend their friends’ wedding, a new light is cast on their friendship…

Sarah is fresh out of a bad relationship, and Markus has always been the one she can confide in. Maybe it’s the magic of the wedding—or how stunning he looks in a tux—but the attraction between them intensifies in ways they’d never imagined.

But sometimes when risking what you have, you might lose everything…

Following a passionate encounter, Markus isn’t sure how to handle this new aspect of his relationship with Sarah, and literally flees the scene for the coast. Sarah is unsure how to react to his sudden departure, but is soon knocked off course by misunderstandings and a frightening family emergency.

Markus realises his mistake and wants to make things right, but he also faces obstacles. He’s been offered an exciting new job, and an attractive newcomer to the neighbourhood is eager to claim his attention, though the last thing Markus needs is another confusing relationship.

Can Sarah and Markus face the fear and doubt—and the potential loss of their lifelong friendship—to give their love a chance?

Again, she adjusted her backpack and pulled a piece of paper out of the pocket of her jacket. Reading the instructions again, she double checked the road name. Worry trickling through her, she stared down the gravel road in front of her. No house anywhere in sight.
Another long sigh as she re-read the email she’d received from the bed and breakfast owner. Travel one and a half kilometre along the road before you come to a fork intersection. Follow the left for another kilometre. The property will be on your right.
Two and half kilometre. Lani did a quick calculation. It’d take her another hour walking there. Now she wished she’d rented a car. She shook her head. No matter how much she wished for a rental, she wouldn’t have been able to afford it. And again, she questioned her decision to come here. She pushed the piece of paper back into the jacket when her hand touched the photo she had inside the pocket as well. It was a photo of her mother and a man. The same man she was hopefully going to meet over the next few days. Reminding herself she was running out of time, she stuffed the photo back into the pocket as well.

Today’s Hook:

Markus DeLeon stood in front of Tyson and stared at him. The guy looked good in a tuxedo. A smile tugged at his lips, though, when he saw Ty’s hair. Markus cocked a questioning brow. “The hair?”
Tyson instantly raked his hand through it to mess it up a bit. “Grandma Hazel,” he said through gritted teeth.
Markus laughed. “Did I just see an eye twitch?” “Oh man, give me a break here, okay.” Tyson looked away. “And where the hell is Oliver?”
Markus tried his best not to laugh, but failed miserably. He’d known his friend for over twenty years, and Ty’s eye twitch was enough proof for him that his friend was beyond nervous. He couldn’t remember seeing Ty so tense in…well, ever. Not even before any of his important football games. Then again, it wasn’t every day that one got married to a gorgeous girl. And despite Katie’s best efforts to keep it a low key event, the media was present already outside the church. Grabbing his phone, Markus flicked through a few names and dialled Oliver’s number.
“Where are you?”
“Give me five minutes.”
“The groom’s nervous.”
Oliver let out a bark of laughter. “It’s his wedding day. Yeah, I’d be nervous too. Do you have the rings? Katie will kill you, if you haven’t.”

Lani Jeffrey adjusted her backpack as she watched the bus drive off into the distance. Blowing out a breath she took in the scenery in front of her. It was stunning. Admiring the snow-capped mountains in front of her and the royal blue of Lake Tekapo in the far distance, she stood there for a long moment to take everything in. So different from Melbourne, Australia, where she lived. She could’ve looked at the view in front for hours but a glance at her watch told her she didn’t have much time left before the sun would set. Still, she pulled her phone out of her pocket and took a few photos. The colours were unlike anything she’d seen before. Not that she’d been to mountains like this before. And although the scenery along the coast of Victoria was one of a kind as well, it wasn’t the same, though.
