I started this story a few weeks ago and I hope you’re enjoying it so far. I’m not sure where it’s heading, so any comments / critique is more than welcomed. I moved a little forward, back into Jesse’s POV – having a beer with his friends, Noah and Harrison.
Enjoy ♥
“I’m not smitten,” he replied through gritted teeth. “All part of a ranger’s day at work.”
The sudden burst of laughter from his friends made him cringe and he was about to leave when Harrison asked, “If you say so. Anyway, how’s Dana?”
Jesse blew out a breath. It was a much safer topic, although not at all easier. “She’s settling well in Melbourne,” he explained with a hint of melancholy as well as relief.
“Living on her own?”
“Kind of. She’s got a small apartment in care like facility. She shares it with her new man, Mario.”
It was still hard to talk about his sister. After her stroke a year earlier, Dana had moved in with him and he’d cared for her as best as possible, with the help of a nurse.
“Hard to let go?” Harrison wanted to know.
“She’s worked hard the last few months. Living independently with Mario will do her good.” He expelled a long breath. “Hard to get used to the empty house, though.”
“Oh well, there’s a new lawyer in town who might need a bit of help,” Noah replied as a slow grin spread across his face.
Thanks for all your comments,
I do appreciate each single one of them!

Big changes are always tough to swallow. Good snippet, Iris.
Thanks, Siobhan.
He might have his own ideas about how to fill up that empty house.
haha … he might indeed 🙂 Thanks, Ed.
Interesting look into his backstory, which I appreciated. Made him even more of a ‘real’ person to care about. Excellent excerpt!
Thank you, Veronica !
They aren’t going to let it go, are they?
LOL, PT, it’s on the tip of my tongue to say, “Men”, but I’d better not ….. 😉
He had a few changes in his life and is still adjusting. I love their playful teasing. Shows how close they are.
Thanks, Karen. Happy you enjoyed the snippet.
