Maddie turned to Jonah, her eyebrows raised. He hitched a shoulder in question as well but stepped closer to the control panel.
“I’m here.”
“Thanks. Could you try to manually open the doors?”
Jonah thought of it as an odd request, but before he could respond, Maddie piped up, “You do know this is a bit sexist, right? You could have asked me that question too.”
Of all the people, he had to be stuck with someone who walked the path of political correctness. However, Jonah chose to remain silent, not wanting to engage in this particular conversation. Instead, he gestured towards the doors. “Be my guest.”
Some static noise followed from the panel. “Maddie, this isn’t about sexism. I needed to talk to Jonah as well. It’s not only about finding out what can be done but also understanding your mental state.”
She blew out a frustrated sigh and slouched her shoulders. “I know you’re right, and I do apologise. I just feel so helpless.”
Jonah winked at her. “Let’s tackle this together.”
In an unexpected encounter, the lives of Jonah, a rescue diver from New Zealand, and Maddie, a spirited local, collide, forever altering their future.
Trapped together in a hotel lift, sparks fly between them, but Jonah’s past looms, casting a shadow over their fragile connection. Maddie, captivated by Jonah’s charisma, is determined to find him when he mysteriously misses their planned dinner. With a friend’s assistance, her search unveils a chilling discovery – Jonah unconscious on a cliff.
Navigating a sea of emotions, in order to find a future together, will Maddie and Jonah manage the challenges posed by their past secrets and present obstacles?
Fun excerpt. The wink made me smile.
Thank you, Heather 🙂
I like the changes in Jonah in his thoughts. One second he’s thinking, greeeeat. And then it changes when the other person gives the explanation about it not being sexism. It says a lot about him. Great snippet!
Thank you, Maggie. Glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
Good for Maddie, standing up for herself. And I agree with Maggie, Jonah’s ready to come round.
Thanks Adriana – He’s a break guy !! 🙂
Together they could well succeed in escape the trap of both the elevator and being single.
LOL, I like the summary, like catching two flies with one hand 😉
I guess the person on the other end could be wondering about her mental stability–but I think it was a sexist request too! But tackling it together is the smarter move. Great snippet! Tweeted.
Thanks Jenna. I hope the sexist comment will be explained over the next snippets 😉
