Southern Gentlemen Book 3
by Ja’Nese Dixon
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rules are meant to be broken. But what about hearts? Is a second chance possible with this single dad and his sexy off-limits employee?
Rashaad Montgomery is a divorced single dad and one-fifth of Southern Soul Houston. He’s juggling the care of his energetic daughter, managing his multi-billion dollar real estate company, and fighting his secret attraction to Catrina.
Catrina Franklin loves the Montgomery family and can’t remember a day when she didn’t love Rashaad. She gave up all dreams of turning her childhood crush into her man when he married and had a child.
But four years ago, he filed for divorce, then six months ago, he kissed her, igniting hope and unquenchable longing.
She knew their time had finally come, but her hope was dashed again when Rashaad showed up with a date, pretending Catrina was nothing more than a family friend.
Catrina left Houston, returning only to plan the year’s biggest wedding, the Montgomery Double Wedding, a contract she needs to launch her new business.
Rashaad avoids the undeniable pull between them until he comes face-to-face with the very sexy Catrina on the arm of his biggest rival. The reality of his stupid mistake glares at him through her distrusting eyes. And he has two choices: walk away or prove he’s the only man for Catrina Franklin.
A war is waged to prove their friends, not enemies. Each encounter, caress, and secret kiss staged to prove his intentions and love are honest and true. But when history repeats itself, they’ll learn whether love endures all things.
Southern Gentlemen Book 2
Rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to this curvy chef and infamous playboy.
Miya Montgomery is the head chef and one-fifth of Southern Soul, a family-owned soul food restaurant. On the heels of a nasty breakup, Miya welcomes the shift in ownership and preparation for expansion. That’s before her brother, Kamal, calls home, his best friend, Dean.
Dean Wellington arrives in Houston, ready to consult the Montgomery family through its management transition, not expecting Little Miya to be the curvy bombshell who steals his heart on sight.
Ignoring their chemistry is impossible. Dean’s sweet smile and steamy eyes scorch through Miya’s clothes and her objections. However, her tattered heart is counting his casualties, refusing to be Dean’s next victim.
Kamal has a strict rule concerning his baby sister: Hands off. But since when has Dean met a rule he didn’t want to break. And Miya’s finding it harder to ignore his independence and Southern charm.
Dean’s hell-bent on making their own rules, and Miya’s worried that when he’s had his fill, he’ll leave her with an irreparable heart. But their late nights have her willing to play with fire, praying…she doesn’t get burned.

EXCERPT

ā€œDonā€™t get me started again. My mascara can only take one meltdown a day.ā€

Their laughter filled the car. That was why she called him.

ā€œAnd where does Alonso fit into this scenario?ā€

She knew she couldnā€™t slide that one pass him. Her boyfriend, correction, ex-boyfriend wanted to play house and told her he had no plans of getting married anytime soon. Her vision was cloudy again.

Sandra wiped away the tears, taking deep breathes. It was over.

ā€œI canā€™t stay in a relationship not headed to marriage,ā€ she stated. Not to mention her ā€œGet Marriedā€ deadline was approaching. And there went her ā€œStart a Familyā€ goal too.

ā€œSo are the tears are for him?ā€

Sandra shook her head, ā€œNo.ā€ Alone in her SUV. Sitting in traffic. She knew she looked a mess. She thought about the source of her pain. Was it the shock of finally ending it with Alonso? She knew they were nearing the end even if they both didnā€™t want to admit it. Maybe it was the thought of starting over? Or knowing the tears areā€¦

ā€œSandi answer meā€¦ā€

She took a deep inhale through the nose she released a very audible breath from her mouth. She could do this.

ā€œNo, Bruce. I know it wonā€™t work between us, but I hoped it would. I wanted it to. I just fault myself for letting it linger longer than it should have. The tears are because, hold on,ā€ she took the first exit she saw.

Sandra pulled into the Walmart-size gas station and located a parking space under a light. Again she placed the car in park. She looked around, and it was well lit, and she had another hour before the sun completely set.

ā€œThe tears Bruce are my way of letting go of it all. My dream,ā€ she whispered, ā€œI canā€™t find a husband. This means I canā€™t have kids. This means I wonā€™t have a family. And I will live my life alone. And I justā€”ā€œ

ā€œReally Sandi? You break up with the man for five minutes, and now youā€™re an old maid.ā€

ā€œItā€™s not funny.ā€

She could see the smile on his face in Atlanta from Houston. The octave of his voice went higher when he smiled. And she smiled with him, lessening the hurt. A little.

ā€œAnd to see Cindy get it all,ā€ she continued, ā€œIā€™m happy for her really.ā€ She realized she must sound pathetic. It was her sister. Her baby sister at that. She was happy for her. However, she couldnā€™t help but compare their lives.

Cindy planned to marry her high school sweetheart who now played for the Houston Texans. While Sandra owned Coffee Confessions, a little slice of her heaven on earth.

The cafe served coffee and light food accompanied by a bookshop and intimate concerts. The business turned a profit every year, with great employees, customers, and a boyfriend until a few hours ago.

When would her someday comeā€¦

ā€¦

They disconnected with the rumble of his laughter lingering as she reentered the highway. Sandra didnā€™t share Bruceā€™s optimism, at least not yet, but she thanked God for him. He was the best friend a girl could have.

Before backing out of the parking space, she bowed her head for a quick prayer.

Father,
Help me use this time to let go of what is not for me. Help me to see and embrace Your plan for me.
In Jesusā€™ name, Amen.
