Today’s Snippet

With his mischievous smile, he replied, “I’m glad you’re now asking the right question.”

Patiently waiting, she bit into the sandwich and a wave of more memories flooded her. Laughter echoed through her mind.

She studied him for the tenth time over the last twelve hours. A smile still lingered on his lips. The mischievous smile that had screamed at her Trust me all morning, and for some inexplicable reason she had.

“Will you tell me what you are if not a ghost? A figment of my imagination?”

He chuckled and reached for a sandwich as well, studied it. “Do you like the black stuff?”

“The vegemite?”

He nodded.

“Are you avoiding the question?”

Shaking his head, he let out a soft sigh and met her gaze. “No, although I’m not real, I’m not a part of your imagination.” He scratched the back of his neck. “Well, yes and no.”

She raised a brow.

Again, his soft chuckle sent warmth through her body, not because of any attraction, but a sense of comfort.

“I’d describe myself more as your guide.”

#BlogTour “BY MISTAKE” by @Sigal_Ehrlich – @InkSlingerPR

By Mist@ke, a meet-cute, slow burn standalone romance in the Poison & Wine Series by Sigal Ehrlich, is on sale for 99¢ for a limited time only!

About By Mist@ke:

You’ve Got Mail meets Grey’s Anatomy in this sweet slow-burn, virtual meet-cute romance.

There’s so much going on in Anna’s life. Teaching countless hours at the studio and nurturing the three major relationships of her life – her group of tight-knit friends, all while attempting to not screw up this whole adulthood thing leaves very little time to waste on yet another dating app. At this point, a relationship is off the menu. Being “self-partnered” is more than enough.

A serious relationship has been crossed off Liam Brody’s list of goals, at least for the foreseeable future. Completing his residency and becoming a trauma surgeon is his only priority. Casual relationships, his friends, and books are the only things he’s willing to lose his precious free time to.

When an accidental email starts a deep online connection, both Liam and Anna dive in with zero concern . . . because there’s really no harm in getting close to someone who you’ll never meet in real life, right?

Wrong.

When a turn of events brings their “safe” virtual connection to an unexpected face-to-face, Anna and Liam learn their online chemistry pales in comparison to the real deal. A realization that brings along the bazillion-dollar question – what do you do when you meet The One at the most impossibly wrong time?

** by Mist@ke is book 1 in a standalone series with connected characters, but independent storylines.

Today’s Hook:

“Mark. Sorry. It’s just… I mean… the rooms are… I mean, the beds and the sofa. There’s still the telly. Are you sure?” Letting out a big sigh, her shoulders sagged. “This fabulous woman wouldn’t have left us some teabags as well, by any chance? I think I could do with one right now.”

His laughter echoed in the spacious kitchen. “I think there’s a little coffee shop down the street. I still have half an hour before my next meeting.”

Sophie sat down and gently tugged Mia onto her lap. She kissed her sister’s forehead, took a deep breath, and met Mark’s eyes. “There’s no spare cash in the budget for little luxuries like that,” she replied with as much confidence as her voice let her. There was no need to go into details that she’d had to spend most of the money for the rent she’d owed. Mrs. Karovic, her landlady in Sydney, had made sure to squeeze every last little penny out of her, and the next payment from Social Services wasn’t due until the end of the week.

“This one is on me,” he said. “The will’s only covering the bills. Will you be eligible for social assistance?”

BLURB:

The chance to start life all over with the help of a stranger.

Twenty-two-year-old Sophie Levesque has been guardian to her eight-year-old sister Mia since their mother’s death a few years ago, and it hasn’t been easy. Luck comes their way when they inherit a small house in Hobart. Problem is, though, they don’t know and have never heard of Clara Bellinger, the testator. Settling into their new life, Sophie is still afraid it’s all a mistake.

Mark O’Connor, attorney in Hobart and the bearer of the good news for Sophie and Mia, curses himself for the lack of information about the testator. However, researching the questions gives him an opportunity to see Sophie again, and the more time he spends with the two, the more he realises that his life is missing something. And it’s not his casual lover Linda.

But then there’s Zach, Sophie’s sexy neighbour from across the road… and a very good friend of Clara’s.

Will unravelling the mystery unravel Sophie and Mark’s promise of a future?

Today’s Snippet

Bigalow handed her a towel, and again, Hannah was surprised that he’d thought to bring one along. But he remained quiet.

She sat on the picnic rug and appreciated the silence as memories flooded her. Memories of the many Sundays her parents had taken her to Bigalow Creek where they’d spent most of the day, often playing in the water or going for bushwalks, later on they’d brought their new dog along as well. They’d always had so much fun and a wave of warmth washed through her as she remembered those days.

Staring at him, she repeated, “Bigalow Creek. Just like your name.”

He gave her a wink.

Absentmindedly, she looked around at their picnic and a sudden surge of familiarity hit her. She reached for one of the sandwiches. It was plain with just some butter and vegemite on it, just like her mother used to do. The drinking bottle contained apple juice.

She stared at him again. “So,” she hesitated then commented, “You’re not a ghost.”

“Nope.”

Inhaling a long breath, she took in the scenery around her. “What are you then?”

Today’s Hook:

There he was standing in the middle of her kitchen, talking on his mobile. He held his finger up and mouthed something along the lines of “Sorry, just one moment.”

When he hung up, their gazes met.

Sophie stood still for a moment. A moment that could have been five seconds or even five minutes. She wasn’t sure. With a little mental headshake, she forced herself to focus. “There’s still furniture in the house.” Her voice almost broke. “And you’re still here.”

He cocked a brow. “Is that your way of asking me to leave? Furniture and I are here until not needed anymore. And by the way, honestly, I prefer Mark.”

A small smile came to his lips and made her blush. She just couldn’t figure him out. Good grief, she couldn’t figure herself out. He’d annoyed her for not having been prepared earlier that morning. Yet, at the same time, he was so furiously attractive that her mind went all mushy in his presence.

Today’s Snippet

She stared at him, the soaked clothes now cooling her to the point she shivered. “Never mind. You just killed the mood by reminding me—”

“How much fun it was.”

Nodding, she moved away towards the edge of the creek, desperate to find something to help her get dry. At least a little.

“Tell me, Hannah,” he said, following her, his voice still holding happiness. “Where did you learn to build dams like this?”

Shaking her head, she kept walking towards the car, tired of his questions. “Dad used to take us to this creek during summer for a barbeque and he showed me all sorts of things. Including how to build a dam. Or build little boats out of tree bark.”

“Which creek was that?”

She shot around and huffed an exaggerated sigh. “Who cares?”

With eyebrows raised, he replied, “I do.”

The dam they’d built only minutes earlier was still solid and holding back some of the water. A smiled tugged at her lips at all the memories of her family’s weekends away to this creek. Which creek had it been? And why did he need to know?

She met his gaze, a smile still lingering on his face, as she said just above a whisper, “Bigalow Creek. Dad took us to a place called Bigalow Creek.”

Today’s Hook:

That was going to be her study room!

“Thank you, Clara Bellinger. Thank you, whoever you are,” Sophie said aloud.
All such a far cry from what they were used to in Sydney. All they’d been able to afford had been a single room with the bathroom across the hall — which they’d had to share with other tenants. Another thought popped into her mind, and it was like she suddenly comprehended what she was seeing.
“Mr. O’Connor. There’s still some furniture.”
Silence.
Sophie looked around the doorframe and down the hall. “Mr. O’Connor?”
“I’m in the kitchen.”
Mia appeared from one of the rooms. Sophie took her hand and walked towards the front of the house and into the kitchen. It was equally as beautiful as the rest of the house. It had the same old feeling to it. The cupboards had a pine timber look. The table and chairs near the bay window seemed to be made of the same material. There was a dishwasher and a washing machine. The cooking area had a very old-fashioned stove with pots and pans hanging on hooks from the ceiling. She looked over to the window, which had a wonderful view outside to the front yard. After a long moment of taking in every little bit of the kitchen, she turned and spotted Mark.
