TODAY’S SNIPPET:
Looking past the girl, he noted Lexie waiting at the car but was unable to interpret the expression on her face. Frustration about a hike gone wrong? Or pride for her daughter for caring so much? He sighed inwardly. It could be as simple as she was annoyed that instead of going home to enjoy the rest of the day, she was about to follow him to the shelter.
“No worries,” he finally replied. “I’ll make sure I won’t lose you.”
“Thank you so much,” Zoe answered.
“You’re very welcome.” He looked up at Lexie. A small smile spread across her face as she watched her daughter hop back to the car. He assumed she was relieved the day that had gone so bad turned into something good. When she met his gaze, his whole body went on alert and somewhere inside he appreciated the opportunity to spend more time with her.
