I’d like to introduce you today to one of my books which is set in Australia and New Zealand ~ THEIR BOND THROUGH JADE Today’s snippet is in Tiffany’s POV. ENJOY ♥
“Hello?” came an unfamiliar man’s voice.
Tiffany hesitated, but hung up without giving it a second thought. Checking the numbers by pushing redial, she pressed connect when she was sure. With her heartbeat up a notch, she focussed.
“Hello?” the same man answered, this time with irritation.
Frayed with confusion, she moved her mouth soundlessly until she got her bearings, “Uhm, can I talk to Steve, please?”
“He’s not home.”
“Who…who are you?”
“My name is Mat. Can I leave him a message?”
Running a hand through her short hair, she racked her brain to put one and one together. This person definitely had a little Kiwi accent. But who the hell was he?
His next question hauled her back to their conversation. “Are you okay?”
When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories of the past return to haunt her. She calls her friend Steve for help, only to be surprised by the voice of a stranger on the other end of the line. She never anticipates the impact this New Zealander is going to have on her life, even more so when she becomes the victim of an assault just a few hours later. 
Mat Apanui, owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can hear the urgency and despair in Tiffany’s voice. They have never met before, but he feels compelled to help her. After an assault on her, he invites her to travel with him to his home in Queenstown, New Zealand, where he believes he can provide her with the temporary safety and security she needs until the situation is resolved.
But can Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust a stranger like Mat enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

I was a bit lost on this snippet. The character descriptions show Tiffany and Mat as two characters, but reading the snippet, it seems they are the same person? Perhaps I am just reading it wrong. Or I just missed something in previous snippets or reading the descriptions. Is she pretending to be Mat?

Tiffany is the main character and just had the police at her door. In her distress she calls her friend Steve, who is not at home, but Steve’s visitor/friend Mat (short for Matiu) answers the phone. Hope that clears it up a little.
I must’ve been tired when I read this snippet the first time, because it makes perfect sense to me this go around. Perhaps it was the switch in speakers with the lack of dialogue tags. Not sure. But there is no need for them, the speakers are clear. Great snippet.

So Steve is Mat’s roommate or friend? I’d assumed from the blurb that she’d called him by mistake looking for Steve. But either way, I’m glad he’s perceptive enough or caring enough to ask if she’s ok. Tweeted.
