FLY WITH ME
This is Tiffany’s story, who receives a call from the police one morning forcing her to deal with a chapter from her past, which she is unhappy to revisit. When she calls her friend Dylan, it’s Mat from New Zealand she ends up talking to.
This is still a WIP, so critique away. It’s set partly in Melbourne, Australia, and in New Zealand.
Thanks … and enjoy 🙂
Surprised by the question, she hesitated a moment. “Next to nothing,” she replied with a frown.
“Would you know where to find the brake cable?”
She shrugged. “I had no idea there was a cable. Isn’t it just the foot paddle?”
Harris smiled and then looked at Dylan. “Have you ever met Thomas Terrill?”
“No sir,” Dylan said without hesitation. “Didn’t know him in person.”
Jones took the photo, and Harris sat back. “Mr Thomas Terrill was killed in a car accident last week. Although we found drugs in the car, Mr Terrill was clean. However.” He paused a moment, possibly letting all the information sink in before he continued. “We found the brake cable had been tempered with. If you know or can think of anything that might help us, we’d appreciate you telling us.”
She stared at him, taking in every single word. Was Harris implying murder? Josh was murdered? She thought for a long moment, trying to process the information she’d just been given. “At the moment I cannot think of anything, most likely because of the uncomfortable situation of being here.” Pulling out the business card he’d given her earlier in the day, she held it up and added, “But I will give you a call if something comes to mind.”
Thanks for all your comments,
I do appreciate each single one of them!

Oh yeah, I’d be flustered too. Great snippet, Iris. 🙂
Thank you, Siobhan.
I like her confidence despite the fact that she’s trying to process the information. Nice dialogue, too.
Thank you, Nancy. Glad you liked it.
I can feel her perplexity. Intriguing snippet.
Thank you, Gem 🙂
Makes me curious to know who had it in for him too. Intrigued.
In this sentence:
We found the brake cable had been tempered with.
Shouldn’t tempered be tampered? 🙂
Thank you, Karen. glad you liked it! And thanks for the heads up in regard to the typo. Much appreciated!
Interesting but I’m not sure why they think she knows anything about all this. I do think her reactions are very realistic! Enjoyed the excerpt which left me looking forward to learning more.
Thank you, Veronica. I suppose when something happens, the police follows all possible leads 😉
Ooo. Is Tiffany a suspect?
Just so you know, early on you call it a “break” cable.
Thanks, Andrea. Another typo. Appreciate the heads up !
The questions make me wonder if they think she had something to do with this. Also, I wondered who Johs was, but if I read the whole passage i’d probably know.
Thanks, Ed. Can’t believe how many typos I was able to put into the small snippet. That was supposed to be Josh 🙂
I thought she handled herself well enough. It seems realistic to me.
Thank you, Elaine !
For her not being a suspect it sure seems like she is!
I get the feeling they haven’t ruled her out as a suspect yet. I mean, with that kind of history with this guy… Yeah, I won’t rule her out either. People can play dumb when it comes to cars. As I reader I don’t suspect her, yet, but as a character I sure as heck wouldn’t rule her out. I wonder who had it in the for guy, quite intriguing.
I feel like she’s hiding something. Great snippet.
Not really … thanks for stopping by, Jennifer.
