~~  Echoes of the Past ~~
by Iris Blobel

InD’tale Magazin – 5 stars
“There is a large cast of characters in this story, but each one of them is an individual with whom readers will fall in love. They each have their own characteristics and quirks that add their own bit of flavor to the tale. If one is longing for a holiday to an island, this is the book to read – one can hear the ocean calling and smell the salt sea in the morning. There is just the right amount of sexual tension between Emily and Conner and this will keep the reader riveted. This is a fast-paced book that is difficult to put down. Ms. Blobel is a talented writer who brings the reader into the book with her characters and makes the reader empathize with them as they are swept into situations beyond their control. “

Amazon Review – 5 Stars
A
good story of complicated family issues, lost memories of early childhood. A love that began in childhood blossoms again as adults as Jack visits the father and friends he doesn’t remember. An emotional story of love for his father, friends and finding true love. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good complicated love story.

When Connor Walsh, a business lawyer in London, receives news that his estranged father is terminally ill, he returns to Fermosa Bay, a little coastal town in Australia. With the memories of his childhood years tucked away in the back of his mind, he finds his father and kindergarten friends rallying around to remind him of the past. But he’s unprepared for the growing attraction he feels for Emily, and it doesn’t take long for Connor to feel regret that his life could have been so much different.
Emily Bradshaw has waited for over twenty years to see Connor again. And although he can’t remember her, let alone their first kiss, her childhood crush is still in full swing. Eager to pick up where they left off as children, she’s determined to enjoy the short time he is in Fermosa Bay, accepting her heart will break when he returns to his life in London.
Will the echoes of the past lure him into staying in Fermosa Bay?

♥♦♥  EXCERPT ♥♦♥

Connor Walsh leaned against the window frame with his arms crossed over his chest as he watched the waves crashing against the rocks. In front of him, as wide as the horizon, was the ocean. With the clouds drifting in from the sea, the sky had turned grey and dark, and he knew there’d be even more rain coming later in the day.
He would’ve enjoyed the scene if it hadn’t reminded him of the changes in his life. He’d been back in Fermosa Bay for two days already, but the memories of the first seven years of his life which he’d spent in this small Australian coastal town were tucked away in the back of his mind. Inaccessible as it seemed. Nowadays, his life was in London and had been for the last twenty-three years. Taking a couple of deep breaths, he looked towards the harbour in the distance, and the small town in the alcove with the hilly forest in the background, where he’d spend some of his childhood years. It was truly one picturesque little place.
A noise from the other end of the house hauled him back from his thoughts, and he stepped away from the window. Since he’d decided to accept Jack’s invitation to come to Australia a few weeks earlier, he’d had visions of what he’d find here. His mother hadn’t told him much about the time she’d lived here, except about Jack owning a pub. Connor had been furious for her lack of memory, but in the end, he’d admitted to himself that it had possibly not been a time she’d like to remember.
Hence, he was surprised to find out that Jack lived in this large house just outside Fermosa Bay, on the top of the cliffs, with a view over the ocean. The house had five rooms and a small study at the back. The lounge room, with a high vaulted ceiling, had wood fire heating and a big window front. Connor had loved the house the instant he’d stepped into it.
He entered the hall, where he found his father. “Good morning, Jack.”
The old man sighed sadly. “You still can’t bring it over your heart to call me Dad?”

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

“Fancy seeing you here.”
Tamara shot around at the sound of the familiar voice and stood in one smooth motion. Staring at Oliver, she noticed how he waved to someone back at the pier.
“Are you following me?” she asked when he looked back at her.
He laughed softly without mirth. “Cupcake, this is one of the most popular places in a radius of about fifty k’s, and you’re sitting here on your own. You draw attention to yourself like a magnet.”
Looking around, she realised he was right. Suddenly that simple fact and the realisation she was so exposed, gave her a shiver. Uncomfortable with the situation, she wrapped her arms around her waist before meeting his gaze again.
“What?” she asked in a whisper.
He shrugged. “Trying to figure you out.”
His reply surprised her. Deep inside she enjoyed his attention, and for a moment, she suppressed her guilt that she’d only recently lost her husband…yet she was intrigued and possibly surprised as well, as to why he wanted to figure her out.
“Why?”
Shoving his hands in his pockets, Oliver rocked back on his heels. He lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “Perhaps I like you against my better judgement.” A smile crossed his lips, and he shook his head in what seemed a bit of amusement. “Or maybe if I figured you out, I’d like you more.”
“More?” she asked.
He laughed. “I know. It sounds impossible. But, hey, I’ve always liked a challenge.”
Gone was the moment when she’d enjoyed his attention, replaced by a building irritation in her chest. She took a minute to get it under control. With raised eyebrows, she asked calmly, “A challenge? I had no idea I was a challenge.”

BLURB:

“Hi Ranger Jesse, it’s Zoe here. We saw you drive past us a few minutes ago and Mum thought you looked tired. Please let her know if you’d like her to bring over some dinner to heat up for you and your sister. Oh, and I hope your sister is okay.”
He smiled. Who would’ve thought a few days ago when he’d picked up Lexie and her daughter, that the young girl would crawl into his heart so quickly. She’d done an amazing job looking after the baby kangaroo, but her care and kindness obviously went past animals and covered people as well. He rubbed his hand over his face, realising he hadn’t even thought about dinner. Or food. Or any arrangements. But when Dana had the stroke a few years earlier, he’d learnt to accept help … and a few seconds later had Lexie on the phone.
“Hello Jesse.”
Everything inside him stirred at the sound of Lexie’s voice. “I wanted to say thanks for the call and the offer to bring dinner.”
She let out a little laugh. “I hope Zoe is not too intense. She’s always been the over caring child.”
“Which isn’t a bad thing,” he told her.
“No, it isn’t. Often it’s very good and it makes me proud. Sometimes it can be over the top.”
“I’d love to say yes to the dinner as long as you two stay. It might be good for my sister and I to have a little distraction.”
Again, her soft laugh warmed him. “I feel used.”
“My apologies, I didn’t—”
“That’s okay. How about in an hour? I’ve prepared a Cheesy Chicken and Corn Pasta Bake. I hope that’s something you both like.”
“Never heard of it, but it sounds delicious. And Dana loves chicken.”
He was about to thank her and disconnect the when, when she spoke, her voice filled with concern. “How is Dana?”

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

The following week, Tamara went to St. Kilda for a walk along the beach. It was early in the evening, but the streets were already busy with traffic. The sidewalk was packed with tourists and people looking for a place to eat. By the time she reached the shore, a headache had started, and she could feel the tension in her shoulders. She avoided the people around her and headed straight to a nearby rock formation to enjoy the view. It was beautiful. On the horizon, the sun kissed the sea, and the reflection of light danced across the water like glittering fairies. It made her feel the closest to relaxed that she’d been for a long time. Even the tension in her body started to ease a little.

When they arrived a little while later at home in Beauty Bay, Dana went straight to the backroom she used to stay in after she’d moved in with her brother. Jesse, tired from the last forty-eight hours, let her be. He didn’t have the strength to deal with her pain, physically and mentally, and was concerned if he’d talk to her now, he might not choose the right words. He had an idea how much she was hurting, leaving her boyfriend behind in hospital, but unfortunately he didn’t have a choice but bring her home, after all, his life was still going on. As he walked towards his own bedroom, his phone buzzed, indicating he’d received a message. Hesitating, and considering to ignore it, he finally pulled the phone from his pants only to see he’d missed three messages.
Mate, it’s Harrison. Let me know how you’re going and if you need any help. Cheers.
Jesse made a mental note to give his friend a call after he’d had a shower. Then pushed the button for the next message.
Hello Jesse, this is Karen, Mario’s mother. Just keeping you up-to-date. He’s still in a coma, but the doctors are more confident that they can bring him out of the coma in only a few days. I suppose that’s good news. I hope you had a safe drive back home. I’ll call again tomorrow.
He appreciated Karen’s message. Of course, he was worried sick that Dana’s boyfriend was in hospital and they returned home. Exhaling a long breath, he doubted his decision again. Then he listened for the last message.
Hi Ranger Jesse, it’s Zoe here. We saw you drive past us a few minutes ago and Mum thought you looked tired. Please let her know if you’d like her to bring over some dinner to heat up for you and your sister. Oh, and I hope your sister is okay.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Tamara had a sudden urge to tell Jason about her day. About that silly joke one of the girls had told her. Or how she had pressed the wrong button on the printer and created chaos. God, how much she missed him. Every day and every single minute. He’d been taken away from her way too early. Such a senseless and violent death.
She stopped the car in front of the small house she rented. Studying the yard in front of her, image of his dead body flashed in front of her eyes, and tears started to flow down her cheeks. She wiped the tears with the back of her hand and turned off the engine. Once she reached her house, she immediately headed to the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face. Staring at her mirror image, she asked herself for the thousandth time how it possible that life put her through such hardship. She didn’t know the answer and would probably never know.

Jesse scratched the back of his neck. “Dana, please, I need you to understand.”
But she remained silent.
He tried again. “I promise you, Mario will be okay. We’ll visit him in a couple of days.”
Crossing her arms across her chest, she turned and stared out of the window.
He blew out a breath, being at his wits’ end. “What do want me to do, Dana? You can’t stay at the apartment on your own and —”
“I can so,” she muttered.
“So, you do have a voice.”
She let out an angry growl and moved her body even more to the window, now sitting with her back towards him.
Shaking his head, he switched on the stereo full blast, trying hard to control his frustration.
