#MFRWHooks “She braced herself for the icy water.” #99c #amreading #preorder #comingsoon #OneClick

Happy Wednesday everyone.
I’d like to introduce you to book 2 in the Alinta Bay series
TELL IT TO MY HEART
which is currently available on pre-order for 99c .
I hope you’ll enjoy today’s “hook”.

Today’s Hook:

Moving her gaze from the soaked carpet towards the door and up to the ceiling, she couldn’t see any obvious signs that the water had come through the roof at this end of the house. She listened carefully, but wasn’t able to hear anything, either, especially not from the bathroom. Taking in a deep breath, she braced herself for the icy water as she was about to put her feet onto the floor. Her spirit plummeted at the thought that the next four months were going to be a nightmare considering the repairs that needed to be made, not to mention dealing with the insurance. And the cost of it all. Trying to tackle one problem at the time, she stood to inspect the damage. Instant pain shot through her as she ran on the tip of her toes, out of the bedroom, along the hall, and to the laundry to find her boots — thanking the winter sale last year, when she’d bought them for next to nothing. With some relief, she saw that only the front part of the house seemed to be affected by the water, but at the same time a rush of resignation shot through her and tears flowed. The splish-splash of her boots as she walked to the kitchen echoed along the hall. With a big sigh, she grabbed the phone and called her friend Kristen.

BLURB:

Confronted with the choice to care for his friend’s family on the other side of the world or to return to Alinta Bay to be with his own newfound family, how will Noah choose?

Following the death of his grandmother, Noah Fielding returns to Alinta Bay and the first thing — or person — he finds is the next-door neighbour in his nan’s bathroom — naked no less. Still jetlagged, he doesn’t hit it off with Molly at first. Yet, over the next few weeks, as his past uncovers itself bit by bit, she becomes is anchor, his friend, and his lover.

Molly Reid had the world at her feet, happily married with a young son … until a tragic car accident took everything away from her. With her heart broken, she moves to Alinta Bay to escape the memories of the past. Her peaceful existence, however, is interrupted after a heavy storm floods her house and she temporarily moves into her recently deceased neighbour’s house next door.

When Noah’s friend and partner goes missing during a routine flight, Noah returns to Alaska to help, but will he come back for Molly?

Shay McDowell has rebuilt her life after her divorce. She juggles volunteer EMT duties and her job, while dreaming of becoming a chef. She finds her way to Rock House Grill and back into the life of the man she helped save.

Can love be the ingredient needed to survive the many obstacles they face?

Excerpt

“Easy, you’re going to be okay.” A soft voice eased through the chaos around him. The owner of the voice grabbed his arms and held them in a firm but gentle grip. “I’m right here with you. You are not alone.” “Can hardly m-move.” His voice slurred. “C-can’t see anything.” “You’ve been in an accident. I’m an EMT with the ambulance squad,” the velvety voice calmly explained. “You can’t see well because we’re under a tarp. Hold still, okay?” “‘K.” A small light flickered at the edge of his vision. It shone into a bag next to him. Penlight. “You’re restrained to a board. It’s to keep your head from moving and causing more injury.” She continued to talk to him. The voice reached down somewhere inside him, calming and peaceful, so he focused on it. A glow from spotlights on the outside lit whatever covered them. The shadow gave the woman the appearance of a halo—like an angel.

Hi, my name is D. V. Stone. Rock House Grill, a contemporary romance, is available for purchase on April 6th by Wild Rose Press. I host Welcome to the Campfire, a weekly blog. I am also a multi-genre author of two independently published books. Felice, Shield-Mates of Dar is a fantasy romance. Agent Sam Carter and the Mystery at Branch Lake is a mid-grade paranormal. Here’s a little more about me.

Born in Brooklyn, D.V. Stone has moved around a bit and even lived for a time on a dairy farm in Minnesota before moving back east. Throughout her wandering, she always considered herself a Jersey Girl. She met and married the love of her life, Pete—a lifelong Jersey Man, and moved this time to Sussex County.  They live with Hali, a mixed breed from the local shelter and their cat Baby.

D.V.’s career path varied from working with the disabled to become a volunteer EMT, which in turn led to working in hospital emergency rooms and then in a women’s state prison. After a few years, she took a break from medicine and became the owner of Heavenly Brew, a specialty coffee shop in Sparta NJ, and a small restaurant in Lafayette. Life handed some setbacks, and she ended up back in the medical field, but this time in a veterinary emergency hospital.

During the poor economy, she was laid–off from a long-time position she cared about. Devastated, D.V. wondered what to do with her life. Finding comfort in her love of reading, she realized it was now time to follow her dream of writing. It’s been a long road but worth every minute of it. Now a published author, she also works in a people medical office again.

“Thank you for taking the time to read about me. Each time you open the pages to one of my books, I hope you’ll be swept away by the story and find encouragement in your own life, never to give up on hope.”

This is still the story set in Tasmania, Leonie’s attempt to travel around the beautiful Australian state. Today’s snippet is in Leonie’s POV.
Enjoy ♥

Her phone buzzed and while still distracted by the towels, she answered without checking the ID.
Once she heard the voice on the other end of the line, she wished she had, though.
“What do you want?” she asked, without really wanting to know. She should just hang up right now, because the last thing she wanted to deal with was Tim. He’d cheated on her, as far as she was concerned there was nothing to discuss.
“Your mum told me you’ve left for some holidays.”
Anger seeped through her as she stepped over to the window taking in the amazing view across the ocean. How could her mother tell him about her travels? She hoped that her mother had been quiet on the location. Tim rocking up at her doorstep was the last the she wanted, or in fact needed.
“I’m having some alone time to think things through.”
There was a brief pause, and she was about to hang up when Tim suggested just above a whisper, “I’m sorry, darling. I truly am. How about I join you and we can talk about it?”
The first tears trickled down her cheeks. It hurt so much, but she knew there was no going back. How would she ever trust him again? How would she ever feel like the one and only in his life? It’d taken a couple of beers and an opportunity for him to land in her best friend’s bed while she’d been away for the weekend with her parents.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” she finally replied. “You made your choice, you have to live with it. It’s time to move on.” And to emphasise it, she added, “Move on with separate lives.”
Without giving him a chance to respond, she disconnected the call and returned to the kitchen. It was time for a nice cup of tea and sit on the porch to let the sound of the sea calm her. Heal her. Inspire her.

#YARomance “In Over Her Head” by @KrystenLindsay Hager

In Over Her Head: Lights, Camera, Anxiety
(The Cecily Taylor Series)
by Krysten Lindsay Hager

Young Adult Romantic Comedy from Clean Reads

Blurb:

Cecily wants a big life, but can she handle it?

Cecily feels like she has it all: great best friends, the beginnings of a career as a model/actress, and she’s dating her favorite singer, Andrew Holiday. Then Cecily’s best friend Lila begins to ditch her every time Lila’s boyfriend calls. Cecily feels lost, but she and Andrew begin connecting more and she’s never been in a relationship where she felt so understood. Andrew even begins to confide in her about his anxiety. Soon Cecily experiences her own anxiety on a magazine photo shoot, but she manages to impress the magazine staff. Just when it seems like all her dreams are coming true, everything comes crashing down when a photo of Andrew with another girl appears online. He swears nothing happened, but Cecily is crushed. She feels like she’s lost two of the people closest to her.

Was her perfect relationship real or was she in over her head?

Excerpt

“Good luck at the photo shoot tomorrow,” he said. “You’ll be great.”

I stared out the window on the ride back to the hotel taking in all the sites. As I walked into the hotel, I felt a new air of confidence. Instead of just reading about someone going out with a pop star to some fabulous rooftop hotel restaurant and being in the big city, I was living it. This was my life and not some YA book heroine’s. Tomorrow I was off on a modeling shoot. I was living a dream and proving how I was ready for a big life. This was my destiny. I could do this.

****

My alarm went off and at the same time an alarm went off in my brain saying, no, I could not do this. What was I thinking? Me, model? That’s where people take photos of you for the sole purpose of other people looking at them, which encouraged judgement and evil comments. People don’t just keep those comments to themselves anymore. Oh no, they grab their phone or laptop or whatever device helps them spew out unhelpful and cruel comments on people’s appearances online for all the world to see.

My stomach felt like spewing all over the nice hotel sheets I was wrapped in.  Why did I ever think I was up for this? Those strangers online would destroy me within seconds. Girls like Harlow who were born with an undeniable beauty could do stuff like this and even then, I had seen strangers criticize her online when she posted selfies.

Being anxious always made all my senses go nuts. I ate two slices of toast and then my stomach did a weird flipping thing. Oh no, not today. Looking over at the clock I realized it was almost time for us to leave. Come on, stomach. You’re fine. Just relax and…nope, time to hit the bathroom. Why can’t I just be a big girl and go to this stupid shoot which most girls would kill to do without my stomach freaking out?

#NewRelease “Two Truths and a Lie” by @DarylDevore #MFRWAuthor

Two Truths and a Lie

The legend of Robin Hood and Maid Marian with a twenty-first-century twist. If you love hot, billionaire romances, then this is a must read.

From the author of the Two Hearts One Love Trilogy, multi-published, hot romance author Daryl Devoré’s latest book revolves around deceit, betrayal, passion and the theft of a multi-million-dollar, rare, red diamond.

As if multiple planes crashes, a car accident, and a concussion isn’t enough, carefree Byn and straight-laced billionaire, Mark clash over Byn’s need for independence and Mark’s struggle with guilt pushing him in the opposite direction of love. When an art forger, an art thief and a ninety-five-year-old woman get involved the chance for true love for Byn and Mark fades.

All is lost until a children’s game is their only hope.

Excerpt

All I had to do was steal a rare, red diamond. How hard could that be?

I followed the others into the Whittle Bus, took a seat and turned to look out the window. I didn’t want a seat buddy. I didn’t want a BFF—someone to giggle and bond with. I had a job to do. I had to keep my focus.

Especially if I wanted to live.

I stared blankly out the window, not seeing the city shift to country. Music blared from the bus’s sound system. The driver turned the radio on an All 80s channel. Trying to block the music, I reviewed my evening. First, act like a meek female, not too competent or intelligent who doesn’t speak English fluently. Second, pretend to be an acceptable server and deliver drinks to thirsty, rich people. Third, steal the red diamond.

Simple enough.

I didn’t want the gem. Hmph, who was I kidding? I’d love to own it. But, a job’s a job. I’d been commissioned to steal and deliver it to a secure box. And that’s exactly what I intended to do. I’d planned this job for several weeks, if not months. Finally, the right opportunity presented itself and here I was sitting on a bus listening to You Spin Me Round, dressed like a French maid. So unbelievably annoying. The skirt barely covered the bend in my butt. Every time I tugged at the skirt, my boobs started to pop out of the top. Not that there was a lot of boob to pop out. I seemed to be missing the greatly endowed gene. I stifled the fantasy of putting my fingers around the neck of the old pervert that demanded we wear these ridiculous outfits. And gloves. We all had to wear white gloves. Who does that?

I’m guessing the host of the party didn’t want us mere peasants touching anything, leaving our filthy germs which he might pick up and then die of some horrible flesh-eating disease. Hey, a person can dream.

But on the bright side, the gloves played right into my hand―so to speak. I didn’t have to figure out how to conceal a pair of latex gloves. I’d wear these white monstrosities, steal the red diamond and not leave a fingerprint in the whole house.

The bus slowed, passed through the open gates then drove around to the back of a large manor house. I’ll admit the house wasn’t as big as the one in Downton Abbey, but it was still impressive. A reddish-brown brick house with several floors, lots of windows and partially covered in ivy which screamed rich person lives here. The land around it extended for acres in every direction. I’d already done my research on the place. I knew every inch of the outside and inside. I had escape routes planned. Although, I had no intention of needing them. I was confident I was leaving the same way as I’d arrived—on this bus.

I knew where I could hide in the house if needed. And I had a back-up plan to my back-up plan. Several people had been paid hefty fees to watch my back. This gem was as good as stolen.

Happy Wednesday everyone.
I’d like to introduce you to book 2 in the Alinta Bay series
TELL IT TO MY HEART
which is currently available on pre-order for 99c .
I hope you’ll enjoy today’s “hook”.

Today’s Hook:

As soon as Molly Reid woke, she sensed something wasn’t right, and yet, it took her three hits on the snooze button until she was anywhere near in charge of her faculties. Her gaze followed the thin light filtering through the small gap of the curtains. With a bit of effort, she reached over and pulled open the drapes a little more. The sun was just rising above the horizon. How much she disliked Mondays and, even worse, how much she hated the rain last night which had kept her awake for hours. It hadn’t been a gentle pitter-patter of rain but a downpour. Of course, she knew the rain was needed, but it could have been a little softer. She stretched, had another yawn, and swung her legs over the bed … when something cold hit her toes. Instinctively, she pulled her legs closer to her chest, a scream escaping her lips. Wide awake now, Molly leaned forward to check for the cause of the coldness. A shiver ran through her from her toes up to her cheeks. She threw herself back onto the bed, before letting out a loud groan and sat up again, taking in the destruction surrounding her. The day couldn’t get any worse.

What the house lacked outside, it most certainly made up inside. Leonie ambled along the hall way closer to the lounge room. It was furnished cosy, yet very modern. The big screen TV at the wall next to the big bay window caught her attention.
She let out a soft chuckle. “Boys and their toys.”
Everything was kept in a cream, light brown colour. The couch matching the same tone, the carpet was slightly darker coloured. She stepped a little further and peeked into the kitchen. And no surprise here either, everything was modern, same colour scheme as the lounge room, with the electrical equipment in a shiny silver. Over the next ten minutes she discovered the whole house was designed the same way.
She found the spare bedroom upstairs. Mrs Hamill had done her best to make her feel welcome indeed. The bed smelled of fresh sheets, a vase with fresh garden flowers decorated the small table near the window, and she’d left some towels and face washers on the bed. Leonie rose her eyebrows. The towels were bright red, the facewashers an odd green, and although cleaned and nicely folded, in the scheme of things, looking old and well used.
Her phone buzzed and while still distracted by the towels, she answered without checking the ID.
Once she heard the voice on the other end of the line, she wished she had, though.

#BlitzTour “After All” by Heidi McLaughlin @HeidiJoVT @XPressoTours

After All
Heidi McLaughlin
Publication date: 24/03/2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary

From New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin comes a heartfelt story about overcoming great loss and forgiving past sins to find happiness again.

Brooklyn Hewett hasn’t stepped foot in Cape Harbor for fifteen years—not since an accident claimed the love of her life, Austin Woods. Desperate to move forward, Brooklyn has focused on raising her daughter for the past fourteen years. But when the opportunity comes along to renovate, and possibly buy, the old Driftwood Inn, Brooklyn knows it’s time to go home.

But it won’t be easy. For one, Austin’s best friend, Bowie Holmes, still lives in Cape Harbor. Brooklyn hasn’t quite been able to forget him: not since the night they spent together—the same night they both lost Austin. Separated by tragedy and guilt, they’re brought together by the Driftwood project. And as they rebuild the inn, they discover they’re also rebuilding something else.

Brooklyn’s always been desperate to move on, not knowing that she first needs to reconcile past transgressions. She can’t forget, but she can forgive—Austin, Bowie, and herself—on her way toward long-awaited happiness.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

Instead of heading straight to the Driftwood Inn, Brooklyn detoured and drove down Third Street. This was the only town she had ever lived in or visited that hadn’t had a Main Street. It was such a random thing she picked up on when she and her parents moved here years ago. She never understood why until she learned that when the town incorporated, the people counted the streets up from the harbor, numbering instead of naming, with First Street being the closest to the water.

Curiosity filled her. For years she had not asked questions about her favorite spots, mostly to avoid the feeling of being homesick, but also so she could forget. The less she knew, the better. The less she longed to return, the easier it would be to create a new life. That was what she needed to do: start over, put the past behind her, and move on.

At the red light, she closed her eyes. It only took her seconds to tell Carly she would come back, even though, deep down, it wasn’t what she wanted to do. Yet, she owed the woman and could never tell her no. Brooklyn was content with the life she was living. She was one of the most sought-after home renovators, with homeowners paying her top dollar to come to them, to transform their visions into their dream homes. Her job afforded her many luxuries, except roots. She didn’t rent a home, let alone own one. Each town became her stomping ground, until the next job came in. She traveled thousands of miles, back and forth across the country, leaving her mark everywhere she went.
