Happy Wednesday everyone.
This is my latest release
DEFYING RULES
which was released on 17 March 2020.
I hope you’ll enjoy today’s “hook”.

Today’s Hook:

Half an hour later, they stopped in front of his childhood home. Logan hadn’t even switched off the engine completely when he saw Kristen rushing from the house towards them. He heard Nick unbuckling and opening the car door just as quickly and within only a few seconds, his son was in his auntie’s embrace. Taking a deep breath, Logan gave his legs a little shake after the long drive and got out. Harrison and Graham had emerged from the house as well, and Logan walked towards them, his feet heavier with each step. His stomach clenched when he looked at his late father’s brother. Uncle Graham’s unusually pale skin emphasised the dark circles under his eyes even more. Logan’s heart broke for his uncle, knowing the pain he was going through. They embraced and patted each other gently on the back. He turned towards Harrison, his eyes filled with sadness, and Logan’s throat tightened at the emotions rushing through him. Appreciation filled him knowing that he wasn’t alone in this.
He’d always been close to them, and Harrison was more like a brother to him and Kristen than a cousin.
“How are you holding up?” Graham’s voice was barely above a whisper.
With a lift of his shoulder, he let Logan know that he wasn’t sure, yet. It must’ve been hard for him losing his brother at such a young age.
“How’s Mum?”
“She’s inside having a nap. The doctor’s given her some medication. My mum’s gone to the shop to get some bread,” Harrison explained.
Logan walked over to Kristen, placed his arm around her shoulder, and brushed her forehead with a kiss.
“How are you, pumpkin?”
She moved around to look at him, and a heaviness settled on his chest, seeing the signs of her struggles. Her eyes reflected her pain for everyone to see. He wiped a tear from her red face, which was also blotchy and swollen. Harrison hadn’t exaggerated when he’d told him she took it hard. He understood her pain. It broke his heart; he knew what she was going through.
She shook her head but didn’t speak. He gave her a moment, knowing only a few, if any words could describe what she was feeling.
Nick, still in her embrace, sobbed against her chest.
“Is he really dead?”

BLURB:

This is still the story set in Tasmania, Leonie’s attempt to travel around the beautiful Australian state. Today’s snippet is in Leonie’s POV.
Enjoy ♥

Then again, what had she expected?
And why was she surprised? After all, she’d had one curveball after the other thrown at her. She followed Jenny’s gaze towards the horizon. It was a picture perfect view and although the house didn’t look like much, she couldn’t wait to spend a couple of days here. Even if it was just to sit on the verandah all day.
She turned and met Jenny’s gaze. “At the moment, I’d give anything for a nice shower.”
“Right,” she replied. “Of course.” She reached into her pockets and pulled out a couple of keys. “Here you go. This one is for the front door, the garage, and the third one is for the gate at the back.” Then she retrieved a little piece of paper. “My number is on here. Call me any time. My husband is on the road at the moment, so if you feel like company, I’m happy to share a cup of tea … or a glass of red,” she added with a grin.
“Thank you so much. I appreciate your help and your offer. And I have a feeling I might take you up on the offer.”
Jenny left, and Leonie ambled towards the front door. It was the lucky last key that finally opened the door and when she stepped into the house, she held her breath for a couple of beats. Again, not what she expected.

Happy Wednesday everyone.
This is my latest release
DEFYING RULES
which was released on 17 March 2020.
I hope you’ll enjoy today’s “hook”.

Today’s Hook:

Somewhere, wherever the place was where dead people went after leaving.
“Dad?”
“Yes, mate?”
“It’s going to be weird going home without Grandpa being there.”
Pain shot through Logan. “Yes, it will be.” Blinking away threatening tears as the scenery sped past, he was aware of the gravity of his words. “But remember, we talked about it. Grandpa’s in a good place. And we still have Nan. She needs us, right? Harrison’s parents are staying with her at the moment, too.”
When Nick didn’t reply, Logan checked the mirror again to find his son staring out the window, most likely contemplating his father’s reply.

“You must be Leonie.”
She shot around and almost bumped into a young, possibly mid-twenty year old woman. Leonie’s initial thought was that it must’ve been Mrs. Hamill’s granddaughter.
“Yes, I am,” she finally replied, holding out her hand.
The young woman reached out and gently shook it. “Nice meeting you, Leonie. I’m Jenny Hamill.”
“Nice to meet you, too. I assume Hans Mattys has contacted you.”
Jenny let out a soft giggle. “Yes, he has and so has Alex. Apparently your holiday so far has been a nightmare and I’ve been instructed to make your stay as comfortable as possible.”
With slightly raised eyebrows, Leonie asked, “Are you Mrs. Hamill’s granddaughter?”
The woman’s soft giggle turned into a bark of laughter. “I’m sorry. I know that was rude. Just to clarify, I’m Mrs. Hamill. Alex and I’ve known each other since high school. When times got a bit tough, he helped us out financially and in return I look after his house over here.” She paused and looked out across the ocean. “However, I have to say, letting someone else stay here’s a first, so please let me know what you need and consider it done.”
Leonie’s shoulders rose and fell with a deep breath. It wasn’t what she’d expected. Then again, what had she expected?

Happy Wednesday everyone.

DEFYING RULES
which is currently on pre-order with the release date on 17 March 2020.
I hope you’ll enjoy today’s “hook”.

Today’s Hook:

The tears trickled down his cheeks now, his chest heaving as he cried silently. “Yes,” he commented on his cousin’s statement in a whisper, his voice almost breaking. “I thought she wouldn’t cope well. They’d always been close.”
Harrison was silent.
“Give me twenty minutes and I’ll meet you at Mum’s.”
“Sounds good. I’ll bring Kristen as well.”
As soon as he turned off the phone, a little moan from the back told him that Nick was stirring and waking.
Logan looked at the rear-view mirror. “We’re almost home, mate.”
Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, Nick sat up and scanned the area out of the window, probably to figure out where they were.
“We’re heading straight to—” Logan broke off; he’d been going to say Grandpa.
“Nan. Auntie Kristen and Harrison will be there. Are you hungry?”
The boy shook his head. That worried Logan, because his son hadn’t eaten anything decent for the whole day. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched Nick in the mirror looking up towards the ceiling, possibly throwing around all the questions he had regarding his grandpa’s heart attack the previous year and his recent death. It’d been something they’d discussed a lot while driving along the roads in Tasmania and it’d been a challenge for Logan to explain how the heart worked and why Grandpa had suffered a heart attack in the first place, explaining what death was and what happened afterwards. Where would people go? There were moments when Logan had wished for a second parent to share the task of clarifying the unknown, but he got through it. It helped Nick to know that Grandpa was now with his mother and Logan’s grandparents. Somewhere, wherever the place was where dead people went after leaving.
