Today’s Snippet
Hannah woke the next morning, drained and with a hangover-like thick head, grateful it was the weekend, although, fingers crossed, there wouldn’t be any call-outs today. She’d tossed and turned all night, every little noise had not only woken, but also worried her, ending in three full-house checks during the night. The alarm clock told her it was after nine already, time to at least make an effort to get the day started. Not that she had to do much, but the usual grocery shopping, her laundry, and she’d promised herself she’d go to the beach in the afternoon to read a book of her choice. It’d been hectic since she’d taken over the medical practice, she’d forgotten how to have a lazy day.
She stood, reached for a hair tie on the bedside table and pulled her hair into a pony tail, now looking forward to a relaxed day. After washing her hands in the bathroom, she headed to the kitchen for breakfast, but froze once she got to the door.
“Good morning.”
There was no way he’d been able to sneak into the house without her hearing it. How the hell did he do it? And for Pete’s sake, why?
“Bigalow?”
He grinned. “The one and only.”
With tilt of her head, she crossed her arms in front of her chest, exhaling a long breath.
“Did you sleep well?”
She headed to the kettle to switch it on. “You know very well, I didn’t. I was scared shitless and you’re the reason.”
He stood and came closer.
Reaching for a knife, she threatened, “Don’t come closer. I’d hate—”
With a nod, he responded in a mere whisper, “Hannah, I’m not real.”

Did he say he’d had one extraordinary week? Annoyance crept in. His remark irked her to the very core. Holding Mia even closer to her side, she lifted her finger and pointed at him. “No offence, Mr. O’Connor, but it has been quite a week for us as well, and I was prepared to answer all your questions. I have one simple question, and you don’t know the answer. Wouldn’t there be something in the file?”
Sophie considered herself a kind person. Kindness could’ve been her middle name, but she met his surprised frown dead-on.
He seemed taken aback by her words. “No offence taken.” And then he let out a deep breath. “You’re right. I apologise. As I said, I’ll find out details and let you know.”
“Thank you, Mr. O’Connor,” she replied and then blew out a breath.
Tugging on Sophie’s shirt, Mia asked, “What about our stuff?”
Sophie shifted and looked down at her sister, but before she had a chance to say anything, Mr. O’Connor beat her to it.
“What stuff?” he asked as he opened the door.
“Considering what we inherited here, we brought all our things,” Sophie explained without looking at him.
Mr. O’Connor stopped in his tracks. “All, as in all your clothes?”

Today’s Snippet
It was an image of the kitchen entrance, but no Bigalow.
Confused, she flicked back and forwards, but for the life of her she wasn’t able to find the photo she just took of him in front of the door.
She worked too much and was losing her marbles. But then again, everything had been weird about … Bigalow. What kind of name was that anyway?
She returned the phone back into the jeans pockets and carefully removed the biggest knife from the block before she edged to the door. A quick look into the hallway told her he wasn’t there. She pulled her brows together trying hard to recall whether she’d heard the front door. Or the back door for that matter. Had he left? A cold shiver crawled down her spine. Was he still in the house?
She needed to call the police.
Clearly that wasn’t an option. Hannah went to the lounge room and slouched onto the couch where she finally rubbed some tiredness with her free hand from her eyes. What was she going to say? A man who had just disappeared out of nowhere was potentially in her house. Yes, she did take a photo of him, but he wasn’t on it. It was as if he were a ghost.
Letting out a big sigh, she closed her eyes and had a little chuckle. She was so overworked she was seeing things.

I thought I’d go back to my first series “Beginnings“. Some of you might not know it, so hopefully you’ll enjoy it just as much as you enjoyed the “Alinta Bay” Stories
Today’s Hook:
Her gaze fixed back on his mouth. Blushing, she quickly looked away.
He turned to them, raking a hand through his short, curling blond hair. “Ma’am, what I know is that both of you are in the will. What I know is that I was supposed to fly you down here to officially read you the will. What I know is that I’m supposed to hand over the keys to you, and to let you know that your expenses are covered for the next twenty-four months. I did not know Ms. Bellinger, as one of the retired partners wrote up the will. I do not know who she was or in what way she was connected to you. I assumed she was a distant relative of yours.”
Sophie took her sister’s hand as she thought about his last comment. She wasn’t aware of any distant relatives. Dead or alive. Her mother would have at least mentioned her once. Letting out a soft sigh, she made a mental note to table the question for a later moment with the resolve to find out the answers. And soon.
“Okay, let’s go then.”
He pinched his nose with his thumb and index finger and took a deep breath. “Look, Miss Lever—”
“Levesque,” Sophie helped him again, this time somewhat more firmly.
Running his thumb over his eyebrow, he stepped closer, but not so close as to be intimidating. “I’m sorry. It’s been one extraordinary week,” he said with his voice just above a whisper. “Once I get back I’ll check with the partners here to see whether anybody knows more about it.”

Today’s Snippet
He let out a soft chuckle. “I’m afraid you’re stuck with me for a little while.”
She shot him a glare. “Excuse me? You can’t stay here.”
His mouth curved into a smile and it annoyed her that he used his sexy smile as a weapon. “Let’s not focus on that.”
Eyes wide, she countered, “It’s all I can focus on. I have a stranger in my house and would like to go to bed.”
He raked his hand through his tousled hair. “Okay, you have me out of here in ten minutes. You have my word. You will have to promise me, though, to ask the right question.”
Hannah couldn’t believe what she was hearing. The words went into her ear but didn’t compute in her head. Did he want to play games? What did he mean with the right question?
“I give up,” she admitted.
The bark of his laugh echoed in her small kitchen. “You haven’t even tried.”
With shoulders sagging, she grunted, “Because I am tired. I have a date with my bed.”
“An empty bed,” he clarified.
A chill ran down her spine. She stood and moved closer to the block of knives. Bigalow stood as well and stepped to the door.
“Not a problem. I’ll come back for the important questions. I will need you to do one thing though.” He gave her a wink. “Please take a photo of me.”
“A photo?”
“You have my word. I will leave.”
By now she was too tired to be confused or surprised so she simply pulled her phone from her back pocket and took a photo.
He gave a subtle bow. “Thank you.” Then he left.
Hannah flicked through the photos and enlarged the last one.
It was an image of the kitchen door, but no Bigalow.
