Without looking at her, he repeated his earlier question. “Want to tell me who you are?”

The word no lay on the tip of her tongue, but she admitted he had a right to know. “My name is Molly Reid. I live next door.”

He turned to look at her as if he expected more.

“My house was flooded during the last dump of rain. Forgot to clean the gutters. Your grandmother’s lawyer agreed for me to stay here until the end of the week.”

“Why?”

She clenched her jaw to kill the frustration inside. “Because my house was flooded.”
