Today’s Snippet

Noah placed the glass in the sink then leaned against the bench as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. “Why did he let you stay here?”

“Why wouldn’t he? I needed somewhere to go, and this is very convenient.”

“Still don’t understand why he lets you stay here.”

She pressed her lips together, trying hard not to let her frustration win the fight. Mrs. Fielding had told her many stories about her grandson, and she knew his upbringing hadn’t been the easiest, but she’d hoped for someone a bit more like the old lady — kind and charming. The man standing in front of her was the complete opposite.

The whole conversation she had practised over the last few days was gone suddenly. The words to explain how his grandmother had missed him and how proud she’d been of him. She opened her mouth but closed it again as she turned and walked off, back into her temporary room. It took her only a few minutes to pack up her belongings before she left the house, slamming the door behind her.
