Today’s Snippet
When he remained silent, she stood and turned on the kettle. “Each to their own.”
Thinking of his own situation, he somehow understood. More than understood. He thought of the many days he sat on the balcony watching nature go by. He agreed with her, no doubt. Content was a good word to describe it. Or happy with life.
“Tea?”
He shook his head. “Coffee, please.”
It was obvious she’d been a regular visitor to this place by the way she knew her way around the kitchen. She grabbed two cups. “What about you?”
He didn’t follow her train of thought. “What about me?”
“What made you leave?”
He let out a chuckle as he leaned back into the chair. “Where to start?”
“Will you stay here?”
Another chuckle, although more like a snort. “Damn, no.”
She gazed out the window, and it reminded him of his grandmother standing there, watching the water in the distance while telling him about his mother in her younger years, or his grandfather who’d died a long time ago. No surprise that Molly had got along so well with his grandma.
She dropped her chin before turning. “Do you live by the sea in California?”
A frown pulled his brows. “California? I live in Seward. That’s in Alaska. And yes, I live by the sea. I built a small house there.”
