♠♠  OUT NOW  ♠♠

The 3rd book in the Beginnings series was released in October, and I’d love to get “you hooked” with some snippets.

I’ve moved the story a little forward … this is when Jared meets Ivy, the heroine of this story. She’s left her boyfriend “to start a new life”

Enjoy ☺

Today’s Hook:

“I am indeed.” He watched her looking ahead towards the horizon. “So you wanna hitch a ride?”
Jared studied her intently. Her hesitation indicated she didn’t want to, but her current situation didn’t give her many choices. But they were in the middle of nowhere, with the next place a fair few miles away. Something inside him stirred and he wished he were able to give her a guarantee. Any guarantee.
“Name’s Jared,” he said as he opened his door and walked around the motorhome. Leaning against the vehicle, he looked at her, taking in her beautiful, make-up free face. She was pretty. Thin, but pretty. When her brown eyes met his, he experienced another one of those heart tugs. He tried to look right past her, but it was impossible. Her eyes were like magnets.
“Jared,” he repeated and held out his hand.
She looked over his shoulder and into the distance, and he assumed she was fighting with herself, part of her wanting to get off the road, the other part being worried.
“Anybody else travelling with you?” she asked just above a whisper.
“Nope.”
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and, after a brief moment, reached for his hand. “Nice meeting you.”

BLURB:
Jared Fraser, a landscape business owner in Hobart, Australia, sets out for a holiday to the USA to travel along the Route 66 in a motorhome. Looking forward to his first holiday overseas, he’s excited as he prepares himself for the journey. But little could’ve prepared him for crossing paths with a beautiful hitchhiker.
Will he be able to put his past aside and grab onto happiness?
Ivy Bennett thought leaving her boyfriend would be the hard part. It doesn’t take long to figure out how wrong she was. As she struggles with making a new start in her life, the last person she expects to lead her to happiness is a laid-back Australian on vacation.
But she will have to say goodbye again. And not only to Jared.

Markus prepared the hot chocolate and a cup of coffee for himself. His pulse was still racing, and he tried to think of something to say. Kissing Sarah, even for this brief moment, had stirred emotions in him that he hadn’t been aware of. The taste of her lips still lingered on his and although he knew he’d done the right thing by not going further with this, the rest of his body disagreed with him. Sarah had always been special to him. She was like a little sister, and he loved her dearly. Yet, when she’d kissed him, his whole body had been on alert.
The sound of the kettle’s whistle brought him back from his thoughts, and he finished the drinks.
“Let’s get some fresh air,” he said and headed towards the front porch.
When Sarah didn’t answer, he moved around and looked at her. A smile tugged at his lips when he saw her sitting at the table with her head resting on her arms—asleep.
“Come on, sleeping beauty,” he said as he picked her up to carry her to her bed.
“Night, Marky,” Sarah whispered before she fell asleep again.
Markus sat on the edge of her bed, watching her sleep. He studied her face. Her long lashes that lay against her cheek. Her soft breathing. Sleep had caused her to relax, and she looked so at ease, so beautiful. Carefully, he slid down the zip of her dress and instantly grimaced when he noticed she didn’t wear a bra. Without waking her, he slipped the dress down her body before taking it off, pulled the covers up over her, and tucked them firmly around her.
Choking back a chuckle, he thought about how she’d encouraged him to spend the night with her.
And now his heart ached seeing her in front of him in bed. He’d have given anything to slide under the blanket and wrap his arms around her petite waist. But it wouldn’t have been fair on Sarah or their friendship. As much as he thought he’d be ready for a relationship, he didn’t want to destroy what they had with a one-night stand. She deserved so much more. Yet, as he thought of it, he wasn’t sure why he wasn’t enough. Was it the old myth of a friendship turning into a relationship and failing? Was he scared to lose her as a friend, because they could be a mismatch as a couple? Or was it simply he didn’t want to be the rebound?

Today’s Hook:

Jared pushed the button to lower the passenger window.
“Hi there,” the woman outside said.
Her pale face caused a little concern within him. Her face was strained despite the smile on her face, but her droopy brown eyes and moist forehead told him, she’d been out there for a long time and most likely tired to her bones.
There was something fascinating about this woman with the wild, curly, blond hair and brown eyes. Her eyes! Even in this brief moment, he was captivated by her chocolate brown eyes. So full of warmth, passion, and life, despite her tiredness.
He wasn’t sure why he had stopped. It was supposed to be a holiday for him. A getaway from his work and from people. His job was his solitude that came with it most of the times. However, after spending a day in Sin City and exploring the Hoover Dam earlier that morning, he was actually looking forward to a little distraction from his own company. It surprised him, yet an unusual emptiness inside begged him for some company. And he was brought up to help others. This was exactly what he was doing.
“G’day!” He stared at her and something tugged at his heart. Not that he wanted that. He had no room for women, let alone American ones. They were all on this earth to make life complicated, and with a mental eye roll, he thought of Mark who was constantly running around for Sophie or Hope, even though Mark’s wife was one in a million and little Hope was simply adorable, especially asleep.
“Ya know it’s dangerous to hitch a ride,” he said when she was still quiet.
She stared at him for a moment, but then replied with the typical American twang in her voice. “I know you said something, but I have no idea what.”
He chuckled. “It is dangerous to hitchhike,” he repeated with exaggerated pronunciation.
The woman stepped a bit closer to the window. “Are you from Austria?”
He let out a bark of laughter.
“Australia, I meant.” Judging by the colour rising up her cheeks, she was clearly embarrassed by the mistake.

They’d known each other for so long, and known each other so well. Her mouth curled in a smile when she remembered when their lips connected for the first time. She’d thrown a bucket of beach sand at him, and he hadn’t talked to her for days. Hadn’t even shared his mother’s homemade pizza with her.
“I’d rather have a hot chocolate. I’m sure the chance of getting an orgasm from simply inhaling it is higher than spending a few minutes with you,” she said as she stomped down the hall and towards the kitchen.
Following her, he said, “Sweetcakes, don’t be like that.”
She shuddered. “Don’t call me that. That’s Oliver’s jargon when he hits on a girl.”
“Sweetheart?”
“Tyson’s.”
“Sunshine?”
“You had your chance.”
With a chuckle, he placed an arm around her shoulder and kissed the top of her head. “Trust me, it’s better this way.”
Leaning her head against his hard chest, she thought about it for a moment before she said, “I know. But why the hell am I so damn attracted to you today?”
He lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “’Cause I’m a very attractive man.”
Sarah rolled her eyes. “And completely full of yourself.”
“Ouch. That went straight to the heart.”
She laughed softly. He’d always made her laugh. It was why their friendship had lasted so long. When times had been tough, he was the first to reach for her hand. And tough times had been a constant in her life. Especially when her father had left her mother, and during her older sister’s disappearance for weeks after falling into the hands of some weird religious group. Markus, Tyson, and Oliver had always been there for her.
But especially Markus. He’d been more like a big brother. So why now?
“Thanks, Marky.”

♥♦♥  BLURB ♥♦♥

When Connor Walsh, a business lawyer in London, receives news that his estranged father is terminally ill, he returns to Fermosa Bay, a little coastal town in Australia. With the memories of his childhood years tucked away in the back of his mind, he finds his father and kindergarten friends rallying around to remind him of the past. But he’s unprepared for the growing attraction he feels for Emily, and it doesn’t take long for Connor to feel regret that his life could have been so much different.

Emily Bradshaw has waited for over twenty years to see Connor again. And although he can’t remember her, let alone their first kiss, her childhood crush is still in full swing. Eager to pick up where they left off as children, she’s determined to enjoy the short time he is in Fermosa Bay, accepting her heart will break when he returns to his life in London.

Will the echoes of the past lure him into staying in Fermosa Bay?

♥♦♥  EXCERPT ♥♦♥

Connor Walsh leaned against the window frame with his arms crossed over his chest as he watched the waves crashing against the rocks. In front of him, as wide as the horizon, was the ocean. With the clouds drifting in from the sea, the sky had turned grey and dark, and he knew there’d be even more rain coming later in the day.
He would’ve enjoyed the scene if it hadn’t reminded him of the changes in his life. He’d been back in Fermosa Bay for two days already, but the memories of the first seven years of his life which he’d spent in this small Australian coastal town were tucked away in the back of his mind. Inaccessible as it seemed. Nowadays, his life was in London and had been for the last twenty-three years. Taking a couple of deep breaths, he looked towards the harbour in the distance, and the small town in the alcove with the hilly forest in the background, where he’d spend some of his childhood years. It was truly one picturesque little place.
A noise from the other end of the house hauled him back from his thoughts, and he stepped away from the window. Since he’d decided to accept Jack’s invitation to come to Australia a few weeks earlier, he’d had visions of what he’d find here. His mother hadn’t told him much about the time she’d lived here, except about Jack owning a pub. Connor had been furious for her lack of memory, but in the end, he’d admitted to himself that it had possibly not been a time she’d like to remember.
Hence, he was surprised to find out that Jack lived in this large house just outside Fermosa Bay, on the top of the cliffs, with a view over the ocean. The house had five rooms and a small study at the back. The lounge room, with a high vaulted ceiling, had wood fire heating and a big window front. Connor had loved the house the instant he’d stepped into it.
He entered the hall, where he found his father. “Good morning, Jack.”
The old man sighed sadly. “You still can’t bring it over your heart to call me Dad?”

The 3rd book in the Beginnings series was released in October, and I’d love to get “you hooked” with some snippets.

I’ve moved the story a little forward … this is Jared’s second day in LV

Enjoy ☺

Today’s Hook:

Jared hung up and replayed the conversation in his head again as he snatched a beer from the small fridge. He sat at the table, unfolded the map, and looked for his new destination. Salt Lake City. Utah.
He rubbed the heel of his hand over the corner of his eye. That wasn’t anywhere near where he wanted to go. Banging his head on the table out of frustration, he realised that his first holiday in years had been hijacked within minutes by people on the other side of the world. If he’d known the cost of a phone call, he’d have called Mark and ripped strips off his backside. His best buddy had lost best-buddy status and was dropped off the Christmas list for presents.
After a quick dinner, Jared retrieved the map again and started planning which included checking his travel guide for information along the way. His next stop was supposed to be a place near the Grand Canyon and then along Route 66 for a little while. That plan had been shot to pieces. Utah was north of Arizona and not even close to his original route. Jared let out a curse and cradled his head in his hands. How had this turned out to be about them and not him?

His hands slid up her arms to cup her face. Closing her eyes, she enjoyed the touch of his lips.
“You sure this is what you want?” he asked.
Unable to speak, she nodded. It was everything she wanted tonight. Tomorrow would be another day, and she’d deal with it then. This was today and today she wanted to feel. Wanted to touch him. And wanted to be loved.
She knew Markus wouldn’t hurt her.
“Yes, I’m sure,” she answered.
“I’ll ruin you for all other men to come,” he said against her skin. “You sure you wanna make that sacrifice?”
He was teasing her. Sarah looked up and saw his eyes lit with mischief. “Just get on with it,” she replied.
Markus nipped her ear. “What if your mother finds out? She’ll send me to hell and back.”
Placing her hand on his hard chest, she pushed him away. “No wonder you haven’t been with a girl for a long time. Your foreplay sucks, Marky.”
A bark of laughter filled the room.
“You’re such an ass. Honestly.”
He shrugged. “Baby, I just wanna make certain this is what you want.”
Studying him, she still couldn’t get past how sexy he looked.
Damn him.

♠♠  OUT NOW  ♠♠

The 3rd book in the Beginnings series was released in October, and I’d love to get “you hooked” with some snippets.

I’ve moved the story a little forward … this is Jared’s second day in LV

Enjoy ☺

Today’s Hook:

Jared returned to the motorhome very late that afternoon. While getting his dinner organised, a vibration in his pocket alerted him to a phone call. With his brows raised in surprise, he retrieved his phone to check the incoming call. He usually had the phone switched on, but only to get a hang of the time difference and to check the time. The old wristwatch had landed in the drawer years ago becoming too inconvenient to wear while working outside. He looked at the number.
Australia.
“Hello?”
“Jared?”
Standing straight, he squinted outside the window. “Mia? What the—”
“I need to make this quick, because I have no idea what this call will cost me.”
A thousand thoughts ran through Jared’s mind. Accidents. Deaths. Chaos. His business.
There was a hiccupping sob at the end of the other end of the line, and Jared needed to sit down. Needed to have something to hold on to as well as he prepared himself for the news.
“What’s wrong, mate?”
Another sob. “Josh and I… I… we—”
He waited her out, although it was on the tip of his tongue to scream at her to just spit out the information.
“We had a fight,” she said dramatically.
The sudden silence hung heavy, and Jared’s rush of relief was so intense, he had to lean back to rest his head. Lightheaded, he closed his eyes for the moment to pass.
“Jared?”
“Still here, mate.”
“Mark said if it’s okay with you, I can join you halfway.”
Eyes wide suddenly, he stared into the distance. He had agreed to what? Yet, nobody had bothered to ask him or even mentioned it. This was supposed to be his holiday. His break from years of hard work in the business and never having a break for more than a long weekend. As much as he felt for Mia, he assumed it was merely teenage hormones going wild and nothing a good talk wouldn’t fix.
Mark, the little weasel. Instead of dealing with it, he was sending Mia over.

“I wouldn’t,” she replied with more force than she had intended.
Now he laughed. “You would so.”
He opened the door and, with a gentle push on her back, moved her inside. Sarah walked straight towards her bedroom with a mix of disappointment, anger, and…relief.
“Night, Marky.”
“No hot chocolate?”
She stopped and turned, considering the idea of a nice drink as well as Markus’ company. He’d moved closer, and, again, his blue eyes sent a rush through her that went right to her toes. It was only when his thumb brushed across her cheeks that she realised she was crying.
She cuddled up against his chest, with his strong arms around her.
“You should’ve told me,” she whispered.
“Which part? That you forgot about the hot chocolate?”
“About Timmy.”
He placed a light kiss on her forehead. “It wasn’t for me to say anything.”
“You should’ve asked Oliver to say something.”
That made him laugh, and she looked up again.
“What did you mean you don’t have to pretend?”
The silence stretching between them was almost tangible.
“Sarah?”
“Uh-huh.”
“You know this is not right.”
She shook her head, and he choked back a chuckle, before he dipped his head to kiss her.
