It’d been his mother’s idea to accompany her and his father to this beautiful place nestled in a small cove along the New South Wales coast. His dad had suffered a heart attack only a few weeks earlier, and he needed some time to rest, relax, and recover. It was the perfect spot and with the football season finished for the year, it was also perfect timing. Tyson liked it here. They had discovered their surrounds the previous day during a short walk. The main streets were close to the boat jetties and along the river. On the other hand, a little flirt wouldn’t hurt and hopefully distract her from her misery, even if just for a little while.

The buzzing of her phone pulled her out of her reverie. She checked the ID and with a hesitant smile answered the call.

“Harrison. How are you?”

“I’m sorry for calling so late. It’s been … never mind. Just wanted to see that you’re all right.” He paused for a moment and asked quietly, “Are you?”

A mix of emotions overwhelmed her. The anger and sadness of having lost everything sat deep within her. Excitement and apprehension about breakfast with Jon trickled through her. And now a whisper of warmth cascaded through her hearing Harrison’s concerned voice. She might have lost everything, but she still had people caring for her.

“I’m fine,” she replied. “Thank you for letting me stay at your cabin. I really appreciate it.”

“I heard the other side has been occupied by a tourist. I’m sorry about it.”

“No,” she responded louder than intended. “No, don’t’ apologise. That’s fine. He’s quiet and courteous. No stress at all.”

Shit, had she just said he?

“Okay. Clearly it’s no hassle.”

“That’d be lovely.” She heard her own words. “I look forward to it.”
“Me too,” he replied just above a whisper with a smile lingering on his lips.
And she thought the messages had kept her awake… that smile did all sorts of things to her.
She let out a huff as she ambled back to her cabin. How the hell could she even think of another man as being attractive after what Cameron had put her through. She lost everything. Her money. Her house. Her life. Thanks to him, she had to live in a small cabin. Not only that, it was a shared accommodation on top of that. Although, she wouldn’t complain about her neighbour.
