Today’s Hook:

He turned to look at her. “I honestly have no idea how I’ve survived the last few years with you girls across the road.”
Checking the time, she stood. “Thanks for the drink.” She leaned forward to place a kiss on his cheek. “Eight o’clock tomorrow morning?”
Zach nodded. “Does your dragon spit fire?”
With hands on hips, she retorted, “You’re not taking me seriously, are you?”
“I am!”
She tilted her head slightly. “Let me see,” she paused for effect. “With your green eyes, athletic body, husky voice, blond hair, which, by the way, is in serious need of a trim… hmm… she might like you. But then again, your job as an escort might disturb her.”

BLURB:

Zach Taylor, an escort in Sydney, living in Hobart, enlists the help of Natasha Peterson when his teenage friend, Mia, runs away. He soon finds out that the ‘dragon’ is really more of a kitten. And although Natasha, Mia’s teacher, is attracted to him as well, she has her own problems to deal with, not to mention her initial reaction to Zach’s occupation.

Will Zach’s job keep him from a chance to be with Natasha?

Life is good for teenager Mia Levesque. But when Darren Schuster shows up in Hobart, she knows something is up once Sophie and Mark cut their weekend away short and rush home in the middle of the night. When Sophie won’t answer Mia’s questions, emotions run high, and Zach confirms Darren’s identity to Mia. Disappointed, angry, and feeling alone, Mia runs away.

Will life settle back into a routine for Mia once she finds out about the stranger in her life?

New Beginnings have given the Levesque girls a new start in life, will More Beginnings be another chance for them?

“This blood-pumping novel will keep the reader hooked until the very end.” InD’tale Magazine

“Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this wonderful book and fall in love.” (5 star review)

Mat is a sexy, tattooed New Zealander with a strong sense of family and duty and Tiffany is a woman with a past that continues to haunt her. Can Mat help her overcome her demons and move on with the next phase of her life? Come for the romance and stay for the breathtaking scenery. (5 star review)

4 stars – NEW BEGINNINGS is a very emotional read, one that is heartwarming as well as heart wrenching. It gives you hope in the act of human kindness and that good things do happen to good people. I highly recommend this book.

Happy Sunday.
I hope you liked last week’s first snippet of Piper’s story,
another Alinta Bay book.
If you did, please feel free to check out the first books here.

Today’s Snippet

There was some silence before he finally spoke. “Hello Piper. I think we met at Kristen’s Christmas barbeque last year. When you say desperate, can you clarify as in how desperate and whether it’s a legal issue.”

Slightly taken aback by the way he approached her plea for help, she replied, “Desperate as in on a scale from one to ten, I’d say fifteen, and as for legal …” She paused trying to find the right words. “My husband emptied our joint bank account and sold our house leaving me with nothing from the end of next week.”

Again there was a silence, but he heard him whisper, but not to her. It took a moment until he said, “Can you come to my office in about thirty minutes?”

She nodded, more to herself. “Most certainly. Just a little heads up, I’m desperate for help, but it might be a while until I’ll be able to pay your fees.”

He let out a soft chuckle. “The fact that you’re bringing up the payment of fees while in this unfortunate situation, tells me that I won’t have to worry too much about it.”

Relief flooded her, so intense, she had to lean her head against the head rest. “I’ll see you in thirty minutes.” She took a deep breath and added, “Thank you so much.”

Today’s Hook:

Zach lived across the road from Sophie and Mia Levesque. The sisters had moved into Sixty-Four Chestnut Avenue six years earlier. He’d shared a hot kiss with Sophie in the early days, but in the end, it was Mark she’d fallen in love with.
“Will what’s-his-name be there?”
Mia did the eye-rolling thing again. “Josh. Yes he will. Remember, he’s in my class.”
Shaking his head with amusement, Zach replied, “Pumpkin, just because what’s-his-name is in your class ain’t meanin’ he’s participating in a sports day.”
“Doesn’t mean.”
“Beg yours?”
She took a deep breath. “It’s doesn’t mean and not ain’t meaning. You know it drives Soph mad when you use the American lingo.”

Today’s Snippet

Piper rushed to her car, got in, and took some deep breath to strangle the urge to throw up. Where had things gone wrong?

She closed her eyes, trying hard to visualise Darren’s face. But as soon as she did pain shot through her. The pain of betrayal. The pain of six years of marriage and him leaving her the worst possible way.

Letting out a big breath, she straightened her shoulders and reached for her phone. It took her a moment to find the number, and although not sure whether it was the right start, she had to start somewhere to sort this mess.

Harrison Hendrix answered on the third ring.

“Hi, this is Piper Elliot. I am your cousin Kristen’s neighbour and I’m desperate for some help.”

Today’s Hook:

She had the genes to become a pretty girl and she was heading that way with big steps. The stylish haircut, a slight touch of make-up to emphasise her grey-green eyes, and always dressed in the latest fashion to compliment her slim figure. And she did have her heart in the right place.

“You’ll meet her tomorrow when you drop me off at the school sports.”

Eyes wide, he turned to look at her. “I will?”

“Oh man, didn’t Sophie tell you?”

“Apparently not. Or she might have.” He scratched the back of his head. “I guess she probably left a note on my calendar.”

“You’ll take me, won’t you?”

He gave a small nod. “Yup.”

Cathy Yardley is an award-winning author of romance, chick lit, and urban fantasy, who has sold over 1.2 million copies of books for publishers like St. Martin’s, Avon, and Harlequin. She likes writing about quirky, crazy adventures, because she’s had plenty of her own: she had her own army in the Society of Creative Anachronism; she’s spent a New Year’s on a 3-day solitary vision quest in the Mojave Desert; she had VIP access to the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Now, she spends her time writing in the wilds of East Seattle, trying to prevent her son from learning the truth of any of said adventures, and riding herd on her two dogs (and one husband.)

Today’s Snippet

He looked down to his hands as he reached for a pen, moving it between his fingers. Apparently, the conversation must’ve reached a stage he was uncomfortable with.

Well, so was she.

“Your account was in both your names, legally he had the right to draw from it as much as he needed. As for the house, well, it was in his name alone…”

He didn’t finish the sentence but let her assume the rest.

Tears stinging behind her eyes, she stood. “When do I have to be out of the house?”

Raising from his chair as well, he replied, “I don’t have the details. That is a question for your husband or the real estate agent.”

She nodded and left. The need to get out of the building for some fresh air was so intense, she let go of all good manners like saying thanks or goodbye. She rushed out his door and through the entrance, no longer able to hold back the tears. She was going to be homeless. No way would she be able to find something decent with a part time job within such a short time.
