With each clash of their hips, his gaze was drawn to Tess’s khaki shorts, and the sleekest, smoothest, prettiest sun-kissed legs he’d ever seen. A snug green tank top that he guessed would match her eyes perfectly, contrasted with the orange, red, and yellow scarf drawn through her belt loops. As she danced and swayed, sunlight pouring through the window glinted off the purple polish on her toes and fingers, and the long, beaded earrings.

Slurping drew his attention to the kitchen floor by the cooktop. Tiger eagerly licked up what looked like a mixture of scrambled eggs and melted cheddar that had fallen onto his once-clean floor. He opened his mouth, about to say something along the lines of what the hell? but stopped, and instead, crossed his arms and leaned against the door jamb.

“Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good,” they shouted so loudly he cringed, although in reality they were pretty good at holding a tune, and he was… What?

Envious.

They were having fun, something he and his sister had never been able to do as kids. There’d never been music or laughter in his family’s kitchen. If he and Maggie had ever been caught doing the Karaoke-thing, they would have gotten their asses paddled so hard they wouldn’t have been able to sit for a week.

Excited by all the noise, Tiger barked, insinuating himself between Tess’s and Jesse’s legs. She turned to give the dog a pat on his head when she caught sight of Eric. Her eyes went wide, confirming his thoughts on the color of her shirt, then she grabbed the phone and turned off the music.

Jesse ruffled Tiger’s ears, which his dog seemed to love, judging by the way he leaned into the kid’s hand and groaned.

“I’m sorry. I hope we didn’t—” Tess gasped.

“Holy shit, dude,” Jesse whispered.

Eric pushed from the door with one singular thought singing in his head: caffeine, then reached for the clean mug she’d set on the counter and poured a cup. Tilting the mug, he downed half of it before coming up for air. When he turned, Tess and Jesse were staring at him. More specifically, at his chest.

While he’d been drowning in caffeine, Tess had come closer and now stood only inches away. She smelled like the honeysuckle shampoo his sister had left behind in the guest bathroom.

With her mouth half-open, she touched her fingers to his left pec, grazing one of his scars. Her fingers were warm and gentle, and his pectoral muscle twitched as if it had a life of its own. She dropped her hand, her green eyes soft and brimming with compassion.

Compassion he didn’t want, but it was his own damn fault for waltzing down here without putting on a shirt. Something else he’d have to get in the habit of doing.

“My god, Eric.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “What happened to you? How did you get all those scars?”

“Dude, you look like you got peppered with shrapnel, and that one on your back…” Jesse whistled. “That musta hurt like a bitch.”

It had. Not nearly as much as losing his friends.

The scars all over his torso weren’t raised and red anymore, and they were gradually fading, day by day. The pain of losing his friends, however, would always be there. Along with the survivor’s guilt that shadowed him every day of his life.

A stab of pain went through her. Her grandfather had always been her best friend, the person to go to when she was in trouble, when she had her heart broken or when she’d lost her job and had to move in with them because she was broke. And he’d been her rock when her mother had died in a plane crash six months ago. There was no way that she would’ve coped without him. He’d been there for her even though he was grieving the loss of his child.
“Tell grandpa I agree I don’t have to meet him.” She paused for a beat. “But I want to.”
“Darling, don’t take it to heart. He’s being replaced by—”
“No one could ever replace him,” Lani emphasised. “Grandpa is my one and only.”
Her grandmother let out a soft sigh, but didn’t reply.
Lani closed her eyes. “I’d better go and get a good sleep. It’s going to be a big couple of days.”
“Good luck with it all.”
“Thank you.”
She disconnected the call, checked her email, and switched off the phone. On second thought, she turned it on again and muted it.
Good luck. Her grandmother’s words popped into her mind. Dylan had said the same thing. Why? What was she missing? Was she heading head first into a wall? She shook the thought away. Everything was going to be fine, after all, he was her father.

#NewRelease “WILD RIDE” by @BreezieBennett ~ @InkSlingerPR

We are thrilled to be sharing the release of
WILD RIDE,
the first book in debut author Breezie Bennett’s South Florida Riders series. If you love sexy football players, be sure to get your copy today!

About WILD RIDE

A smoking hot wide receiver with a tattered reputation. A feisty tomboy with dreams of being a sports agent. Can he build his brand with a fake fiancée? Can she snag the promotion she desperately wants? Sure. If he can keep it in his pants and she can resist taking the ride of her life. Fall in love with Leo and Frankie as their romance slides from fake to forever.

LEO

I guess I’m in trouble for real now. At least that what my agent says. Just talking my way out of my latest PR shitshow isn’t going to cut it this time. He says the South Florida Riders fans need to believe I’m more than just a cocky wide receiver who throws Benjamins at strippers and breaks the hearts of innocent girls.

His brilliant plan to fix my image is to hook the perfect woman on my arm and convince the world I’m engaged to her. Only problem is, I definitely don’t have the perfect woman. As my agent puts it, I’ve been ‘too busy banging my way through NFL groupies to get serious.’ He’s not wrong.

But then he decides to hire his intriguing and annoyingly hot assistant to play the part…and all of a sudden his ideas don’t seem so dumb.

FRANKIE

I know you, Leo Sterling. I know your type. I can predict your every move, on and off the field. And I want absolutely as little to do with you as possible.

I’m well aware that working for a sports agent will be a pain in the ass and that my dream of eventually becoming an agent myself will put me in very close quarters with unfathomably arrogant athletes like Leo. It’s par for the course with my career path, one I chose so that I can stay as close as possible to the one true love of my life—football.

So, when my boss tells me I have to be fake fiancée to this particularly infuriating and sexy player to keep my job, I have no choice. And it doesn’t exactly suck. Having a little weakness for athletes like Leo Sterling doesn’t make me pathetic, it makes me a normal human. And it definitely doesn’t mean I’ll fall for him.

#MFRWHooks “Oh, how I despise it when you call me that” #books #amreading #KindleUnlimited

Happy Wednesday everyone.
It’s been a while since I last posted, but we had lots happening in September. I’m posting another “hook” from “Journey to her Dreams “.
ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

Hollie slipped her arms into a worn out cardigan as she paced through the rooms of her apartment unable to find her ringing phone. She occupied only a small area upstairs in the attic of the farmhouse she shared with her father, but it certainly had everything she needed, including a spacious bedroom with the view of the Great Western Tiers.
And the phone kept ringing, aggravating her even more until she finally found it under a stack of mail from the previous day.
“Hello?”
“Lost the phone again, hadn’t you?” Alex’s amusement was apparent in her voice.
“I had a feeling it would be you who kicks me out of bed at this ungodly hour of the day,” Hollie replied, holding back a yawn as she gazed out the window. During winter, she occasionally saw the snow on the top of the mountain peaks glaring in such beauty that she didn’t understand why people always asked her to move into town.
“Are you coming tonight?” Alex wanted to know.
Hollie sat on the couch, propping her feet up on the cluttered coffee table. “Alexandra Rose Cayhill—”
“Oh, how I despise it when you call me that.”
Hollie let out a soft laugh. “You’ve known me since kindergarten and I’ve always spent my Saturday nights with you. At least since you’ve had your car.”
“Hey,” her friend protested, but then laughed. “Awesome. Great to be appreciated. I’d better start thinking about what to wear.”

BLURB:

There must be a reason for her dreams…

Hollie Anderson, a young woman living in Tasmania, is content with life, even more so since she has met Jeremy. However, she has been having a recurrent dream that impacts her daily life, as well as her relationship, a dream that eventually takes her on a journey to Ireland.

Samantha Shaughnessy enjoys the success as Head of Advertising for a popular magazine in the Irish capital Dublin. Married to Padraic, she thinks she loves her husband, but when she meets Hollie under unusual circumstances, she needs to face the truth–and not just about her marriage.

When both women meet and find they share an unexpected tie to the past, will they finally be able to move on into relationships with the men they love?

“This blood-pumping novel will keep the reader hooked until the very end.” InD’tale Magazine

“Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this wonderful book and fall in love.” (5 star review)

Mat is a sexy, tattooed New Zealander with a strong sense of family and duty and Tiffany is a woman with a past that continues to haunt her. Can Mat help her overcome her demons and move on with the next phase of her life? Come for the romance and stay for the breathtaking scenery. (5 star review)

4 stars – NEW BEGINNINGS is a very emotional read, one that is heartwarming as well as heart wrenching. It gives you hope in the act of human kindness and that good things do happen to good people. I highly recommend this book.

She opened another app and called her grandmother.
“Thought I’d better give you a quick call to let you know I have arrived.”
The relief in her grandmother’s voice was obvious by being up a notch. “Oh darling. So good to hear from you. How was the travel?”
“All went well. The flight was smooth and the bus ride here was okay as well.” She thought it was better not to mention that she’d had to walk the last stretch of her journey. Her grandmother had already been worried enough as it was.
“Is it as beautiful as on the pictures you showed me?”
Her mouth curved into a smile. Yes it was. She thought of the sparkling snow on the top of the mountains. “It’s dark here already, but I was able to take a few photos which I’ll send through once we’ll finish the conversation.”
“I can’t wait. Are the owners of the bed and breakfast nice and looking after you?”
Lani threw herself back onto the bed unsure how to respond. She didn’t know whether to tell the truth or not. Her grandmother had worried so much already about her travelling on her own. Never mind that she was twenty five years old.
She heard her granddad in the background. “What was that?”
“Grandpa is being a smarty pants wanting to know whether you’ve already talked to Tobias.”
Lani chuckled, knowing that he hadn’t used the name but a derogative word she’d rather not repeat. “Tell him he’s too impatient, just like Mum used to be. I’ve only just arrived.”
There was a moment of silence, the loss of her mother, her grandmother’s daughter still raw to all of them.
She heard her grandfather in the background again. “You don’t have to meet him. He’s no good.”

Happy Wednesday everyone.

Today’s Hook:

Trying to help the woman, Hollie Anderson reached out to her, but in vain. Instead, she woke with a start, sweat covering her body. Sitting up in her bed, Hollie rubbed the fright and sleep out of her eyes while exhaling a long breath willing her rapid heartbeat to settle. Her chest ached, as if someone had pushed her down and placed a great amount of weight on it. Leaning back into her pillow, she closed her eyes. Why did she keep dreaming of this woman, and who was she? The frequency of the dreams was beginning to take a toll on her and affecting her life.

Excerpts

A single tear slipped through her defenses. She blinked and wiped it away. If he said another word, she’d shatter. Anger that he’d spanked and insulted her welled up inside her. She couldn’t decide which hurt more—her bruised ribs or her sore bottom.

Misery blocked her throat and dried her mouth. She’d probably deserved that spanking since her failure ten years ago cost Susanna her life. She’d blamed herself when she heard the French had killed Stonehurst. That her childhood scheme hadn’t sent him to his death was the only bright spot in her miserable evening.

As they rode, her brief spark of anger faded into despair. She never made a sound, but tears flowed down her cheeks.

“Damn it,” Stonehurst muttered under his breath, “don’t cry.”

Despite the balmy summer night, she couldn’t stop shivering. He tightened his arms, pulling her toward him. When he buried his face in her hair, she thought he inhaled in her favorite floral perfume. She hoped it pleased him. His citrus and herbal cologne certainly delighted her.

When he reached the rose garden, the musky scent of the flowers lingered, heady and intoxicating. Despite his wooden leg, he slid easily from the saddle and helped her dismount. His hands rested a few seconds too long on her waist. She relaxed and leaned toward him, but his severe expression condemned her. While her past actions deserved his scorn, it still crushed her.

As if he couldn’t stop himself, he tugged her against him. His mouth slammed against hers, claiming, dominating, and possessing. A soft moan flowed from her. When she nestled into his embrace, her heart told her she’d come home.

He tangled his hands in the loose strands of her hair and anchored her lips to his. As his tongue traced the seam between them, she opened for him. He tasted of fresh lemons and spearmint. His kiss was all-consuming and addictive, a sinful delight that flooded her soul with joy.

The longer he held her, the more she relaxed. Everything about him made her feel sheltered and safe. Deep down she knew it was an illusion. He’d already sided with her brother, and her ribs would suffer for it.

Confused by the feelings he roused in her breast, her grip on reality faded, and she responded with unexpected eagerness. Wrong or not, she’d savor this moment of pleasure. Something hot and sensual sizzled between them. Unable to resist, she slid her arms around his neck, and ran her foot up and down his right calf.

When he crushed her against his chest, the added intimacy made her heart pound and her knees weak. Only, given their past, they could never have a future.

Quick Fire Quiz – Please don’t feel obliged to use

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Definitely energize. I get bad tempered if I don’t do something to inch my writing forward every day.

 Ballpoint or fountain pen?

Ball point. I write in a notebook, type up, then read it through before moving on to the next chapter.

What time of the day is best for you as a writer?

Anywhere, anytime. If I have a free moment I put pen to paper. A lot of my early writing was done on the bus on the way and from work.

Who are three of your favorite authors?

Kresley Cole, Georgette Heyer, and  currently J.S. Scott. The last one changes but I’ve loved the other two for years.  ,

Which book – of all the books you’ve written – do you like the best?

Always the one I’m working on. I’m proud of Taken as Theirs because it was my first book to hit the top ten on it’s category. I love regency romance, and I love my latest very hot Regency romance. Georgette Heyer would be turning in her grave.

How do you research your locations?

Internet and visits. A lot of my books are set in Yorkshire, England. That’s my home county. For my Westhorpe Ridge series, I hounded friends in North Carolina to check details. For my current WIP I visited Lindisfarne in Northumberland to scout the island. (Any excuse for a weekend break with my husband.)
