Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

That was one reason, all right, but the other reason was her behaviour the other day. The panic in her eyes, the same panic he thought he’d seen on her face when Markus had held out his hand as he’d introduced himself. Not to mention his coach’s stern warning to stay away from her.
So what had made her come back? Was it really Markus?
Frowning, he shook his head. “No, that’s not it,” he finally replied. “But you should’ve seen her eyes last week,” he said more to himself than to Markus.
“Oh, I saw them just then,” his friend replied with a little chuckle.
“You’re such an ass, man.”
“What? You said, I should’ve seen her eyes. I did. They’re beautiful. I mean like…”
But he never finished his sentence, and as Oliver looked after Tamara, the sudden silence, broken only by the sound of the waves of Port Phillip Bay,  gave him a shiver.
“What did you do to her?” Markus asked suddenly.
He shrugged, not willing to admit to his friend that she occupied his mind far more that he liked. “She’s screwed, mate. Coach Becker told me she’s off limits, but man, I tell ya, she’s screwed.”

BLURB:

Oliver Dempsey, pitcher for a Melbourne baseball club, loves the women, and they love him…
But he keeps them at an arm’s length, and when he meets Tamara, he’s unprepared for the attraction he feels for her. Told by his coach that she’s off limits, only draws him in more.

Tamara Amis moved to Melbourne to find some distance between her past and herself…
With the help of her uncle, the coach of a Melbourne baseball club, she quickly finds a job, and a place to live. Yet, one meeting with the handsome pitcher stirs unexpected emotions that threaten to overwhelm her.

It’s Oliver’s injury that brings them together, but as they find out about each other’s pasts, how can they be ready to share a future?

“This blood-pumping novel will keep the reader hooked until the very end.” InD’tale Magazine

“Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this wonderful book and fall in love.” (5 star review)

Mat is a sexy, tattooed New Zealander with a strong sense of family and duty and Tiffany is a woman with a past that continues to haunt her. Can Mat help her overcome her demons and move on with the next phase of her life? Come for the romance and stay for the breathtaking scenery. (5 star review)

4 stars – NEW BEGINNINGS is a very emotional read, one that is heartwarming as well as heart wrenching. It gives you hope in the act of human kindness and that good things do happen to good people. I highly recommend this book.

Today’s Hook:

Tamara and Markus both stared at him, and he shrugged his shoulder. “What?”
Markus lifted an eyebrow. “I seem to be missing something here.”
Tamara placed a hand on his arm. “It’s okay. I’ve been…let’s say…” She hesitated. “A bitch?” Oliver helped, but he regretted it straight away.
“I certainly have not!” she retorted before he could retract his words.
Markus had offered him the perfect chance to spend more time with her, and here he was behaving like an idiot. He tried to shake off this odd reaction inside him.
“Challenge might have been the wrong word,” he finally said.
She smiled at him and removed her hand from Markus’ arm. “Perhaps another time, but thanks for the invite. Do you play baseball?”
Markus shook his head. “Nope. Soccer.”
Then she turned and walked off. Again. Hands on hips, Oliver watched her making her way to the pier. “Can you believe this woman?”
When he didn’t get a reply, he looked at his friend. Markus was watching her as well, but with a lovestruck smile on his face. “Back off, mate. She’s trouble!”
Markus snorted. “You’re an ass. Just because she doesn’t fall for your charm, she’s trouble?”

Today’s Hook:

“Fancy seeing you here.”
Tamara shot around at the sound of the familiar voice and stood in one smooth motion. Staring at Oliver, she noticed how he waved to someone back at the pier.
“Are you following me?” she asked when he looked back at her.
He laughed softly without mirth. “Cupcake, this is one of the most popular places in a radius of about fifty k’s, and you’re sitting here on your own. You draw attention to yourself like a magnet.”
Looking around, she realised he was right. Suddenly that simple fact and the realisation she was so exposed, gave her a shiver. Uncomfortable with the situation, she wrapped her arms around her waist before meeting his gaze again.
“What?” she asked in a whisper.
He shrugged. “Trying to figure you out.”
His reply surprised her. Deep inside she enjoyed his attention, and for a moment, she suppressed her guilt that she’d only recently lost her husband…yet she was intrigued and possibly surprised as well, as to why he wanted to figure her out.
“Why?”
Shoving his hands in his pockets, Oliver rocked back on his heels. He lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “Perhaps I like you against my better judgement.” A smile crossed his lips, and he shook his head in what seemed a bit of amusement. “Or maybe if I figured you out, I’d like you more.”
“More?” she asked.
He laughed. “I know. It sounds impossible. But, hey, I’ve always liked a challenge.”
Gone was the moment when she’d enjoyed his attention, replaced by a building irritation in her chest. She took a minute to get it under control. With raised eyebrows, she asked calmly, “A challenge? I had no idea I was a challenge.”

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

The following week, Tamara went to St. Kilda for a walk along the beach. It was early in the evening, but the streets were already busy with traffic. The sidewalk was packed with tourists and people looking for a place to eat. By the time she reached the shore, a headache had started, and she could feel the tension in her shoulders. She avoided the people around her and headed straight to a nearby rock formation to enjoy the view. It was beautiful. On the horizon, the sun kissed the sea, and the reflection of light danced across the water like glittering fairies. It made her feel the closest to relaxed that she’d been for a long time. Even the tension in her body started to ease a little.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I’ve decided to move on to another book I’d like to share with you. It’s an older one, the second book in my Australian Sports Stars Series. “Let Me Love You” is Oliver’s story. ENJOY ♥

Today’s Hook:

As he walked to the showers, he thought about his training session and wondered whether his shoulder was to blame for the bad hits, or his lack of training. But who was he kidding, he always liked to throw everything he had at people, yet was hopeless in receiving anything thrown at him. That applied in baseball and in life. When he’d been to see his first baseball game as a kid in Los Angeles, he’d known he was born to pitch. He ran the water to heat it up before stepping under the spray and lifting his face to the mist. Closing his eyes, he succumbed to the seduction the water brought as it ran over his head and muscles. He was tired. After a moment of letting the water flow over his body, Oliver opened his eyes, and fixed his gaze on the tile wall before him. Coach Becker’s niece, Tamara, popped into his mind, and he thought of how she’d ignored his hand. He wasn’t sure whether she’d snubbed him or there was more to that look of fear in her eyes. Reluctantly, he turned off the water and grabbed his towel.
He walked to his locker and got dressed. As he packed up his gear, the phone fell out of his pocket and he saw he’d missed a call from Ty. Raking his hand through his wet hair, he remembered he was supposed to meet his friend at the squash court for a couple of games. It was the last thing he wanted to do that night. He threw his stuff into his locker, grabbed his bag, and rang Ty.
“Mate, how are you?” his friend asked.
“Need to give it a miss tonight, mate. I had some idiot on a skateboard slam into me last night and I crapped out my shoulder. How about a raincheck?”
“Make sure you’ll be over on Saturday for the cricket match.”
“Your place?”
“It’s always at my place,” Ty replied and hung up.

Today’s Hook:

Sweat ran down Oliver’s back, soaking his shirt. He’d been on the field for a couple of hours, but frustration grew in him with every ball he missed. He placed his hands on his knees and took a deep breath, fixing his stare at the ground. For Pete’s sake, he was a pitcher, not a hitter, and well known for his fastballs as well as his perfect curveballs. Alas, he had neglected his hitting. Today, his swing was below average, and, unable to focus, he walked over to the bench where he spotted Coach Becker shaking his head towards him.
Pointing his finger back towards the field, the coach said, “Head right back out there, Oliver. You need to improve your hand-eye coordination. I want to see more, and better.”
Oliver cursed under his breath. “It’s not going to happen. My shoulder’s killing me. It’s been a long day.”
Coach Erik Becker rubbed his face.
“It’s not gonna happen today,” Oliver persisted.

Markus pulled on her arm until she sat next to him. She didn’t fight him as he shifted her until she was sitting across his lap, leaning against his strong chest. His muscular arms surrounded her and gave her a small measure of comfort. Lifting her head, he wiped away her tears with his thumb. When the powerful waves of emotion dissipated, she met his gaze. His beautiful eyes, matched with his mischievous grin made her melt into a puddle.
In that state of mind, she leaned in and kissed him softly on his lips. When he didn’t move, she leaned back to look at him. Gazing into each other’s eyes, Markus reached up with a smile and gently brushed a curl out of her face.
Feeling a surge of desire mixed with uncertainty, Sarah started to move off his lap, but he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close again.
“Marky—”
He cupped her chin, hesitated, and then lowered his head closer, his lips hovering inches from hers. When he finally kissed her, the kiss was so soft, so subtle, but her heart was pounding.
“Marky, honey, if you tease me I—”
She didn’t get to complete the sentence, after he silenced her with another kiss.
“No more talking,” he said gruffly, while he briefly pulled his mouth away from hers.
Everything inside Sarah tightened as she leaned into him, resting her palm on his chest. All she was able to think of was how well he kissed. He’d definitely improved since they’d last kissed.
“Honey, I had no idea you’re such a good kisser,” she whispered against his lips.
Markus chuckled softly. “Babe, I’ve got many talents.”
Sarah moved her legs to straddle him, saying against his lips, “You taste like forbidden fruit.”

An hour and a little snooze in a car later, they arrived in front of her place. Her little house which she was so proud of. At least something that she had achieved in life. Fair enough, Markus had helped her when she’d hit financial problems, but it was a success that nobody in her family had been able to accomplish.
At least if she’d grow old alone, she’d do it owning a house.
A smile lingered on her lips.
Markus got out of the car and opened the passenger door for her.
“Thank you,” she whispered. Then she leaned forward, quickly slipped into her shoes, before she got out and walked to the front door.
The sound of Markus’ steps told her that he was following. Half of her appreciated his thought of making sure she was safe, the other half was too tired to care or think. She rubbed her eyes with the ball of her hand before she turned and met Markus’ eyes.
“Thank you, Marky,” she said softly. “Thanks for taking me home.”
Nodding, he came closer, took the key from her, and unlocked the door. “Have a good snooze, baby. And call me in the morning.”
She bit her lip and took the keys. “I will,” she replied.
Sarah had to close her eyes for a moment. The situation was so unfamiliar to her that she needed a second to refocus. It wasn’t unusual for Markus to give her a lift home and drop her off at the door, but it was unusual for her to have every nerve in her body responding to his nearness. Somehow, his familiar scent affected her tonight, and she had no idea why. She even had to lock her knees to withstand the look in his eyes.
And before she knew it, her mouth was on his.
“What are you doing?” Markus asked against her lips.
With her hands fisted in his shirt, she looked up and met his gaze. “Can’t you pretend for just one night that you like me?”
He chuckled lightly, which she didn’t know how to read.
“Marky?”
“Aww, baby. I don’t have to pretend, but I know we’d both regret it.”

“How about I take you home? I’m sure this wedding party is near its end and will possibly survive without you.”
“Promise me a hot chocolate?”
His body shook slightly as he held back his laughter. She assumed he was thinking of their holidays in the Swiss Alps as well.
A few years earlier, Markus had played for an English soccer club and invited her for a holiday in Switzerland. They’d spent a week in a wooden farm house just outside a small village, between massive snow-capped mountains. Wherever she’d looked were ski slopes or fields with cattle. It’d been divine. And after a long day outside, they’d sat down by the fire and drunk hot chocolate.
“C’mon, princess. I will make you a hot chocolate as well.”
She stood and saw Oliver come over. “Please don’t tell him,” she whispered.
“What’s up?” Oliver asked.
“Saz drowned her sorrow in some red last night after finding out Timmy cheated on her,” Markus explained.
Sarah slapped him against his chest. “I asked you not to say anything,” she said through gritted teeth.
Markus cocked an eyebrow. “I thought you meant the chocolate.”
Oliver laughed and pulled Sarah into a hug. “I told you—”
“Don’t say it,” she mumbled against his chest.
“You should try—”
Sarah placed a finger on his lips. “Just tell the happy couple congratulations, and I’ll catch up with them when they get back from their honeymoon.”
“You really are out of it, sweet pea. They left about half an hour ago.”
She sighed again. “Even better. I don’t have to feel guilty.”

Tilting her head slightly to look at him, she let out a little sigh. He laughed and placed his arm around her for a little hug.
“Want to dance?”
His mouth was so close to her ear, she could feel his breath on her skin as he spoke. A little shiver went down her spine, and it took her by surprise. She’d known Markus for almost twenty years, and she couldn’t remember her body responding to him like this. It was a bit eerie. The combination of red wine, hangover, and the Panadol was obviously too much for her. After all, they’d shared lunches together at school, went together to movies or concerts, shared heartaches, and even their first kiss celebrating Mark’s thirteen’s birthday. Both decided then and there that it wasn’t for them. In all fairness, it’d been their third kiss, but they were about five years old when their mouths had accidentally met for the first time, and Markus had given her a wet, sloppy kiss in Kindergarten as well when she’d fallen off the slide.
So why was her body betraying her today?
“I’ve gotta take a raincheck, Marky,” she replied. “But thanks, anyway.”
“Wanna tell me what’s up with you?” He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “You’re usually the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave.”
