#SnippetSunday “You call this an adventure?” #Aussieauthor #Sundayblog #mustread

Happy Sunday. I’m continuing with my WIP, another Alinta Bay story.
Jonah and Maddie are still stuck in the lift.
Enjoy ♥

She gave him a gentle slap on his chest, his company not only giving her some comfort in this awkward, and somewhat scary situation, but she was enjoying it as well. “I’m helping Dad’s friend. She’s overseeing all the arrangements.”
“So we’re in good hands,” he said with some mirth.
“You most certainly are,” she assured him. “Taupo? So, what is this fine specimen of a man doing in … wait, north or south island?”
“North.”
The static voice from the panel startled them both, and Jonah stood instantly to reply. “We’re still coping. Some better than others.”
Maddie pulled in her lips as she looked up at him, glad to hear from the outside help, but at the same time she was a bit disappointed their conversation was distracted. Of course he was referring to her. And, yes, he was right. Even more so that he was not holding her hand anymore. She missed his body next to hers, the assurance he had radiated.
“Technicians have arrived and promised me to have you moving soon again.”
Jonah nodded towards the silver panel. “Appreciate the update. Oh, mate, could you give an update to…” He turned to her. “Anybody you need to know about current adventure?”
Eyes wide, she countered, “You call this an adventure?”
He blew out a breath. “Another ism I’ve stepped in?”
Placing her hand on the ground, she pushed herself up and stood next to him. “Not the kind of adventure I was seeking.”
His laugh was warm and intimate. “You have to come to NZ for a visit one day. Lots of adventures to have over there.”
“Excuse me,” the static voice interrupted. “Could I have your attention for just a moment?”
“Sorry,” Maddie and Jonah replied in unison.
“Who would you like me to contact?”

Happy Sunday. I’m continuing with my WIP, another Alinta Bay story.

“Are you here for the reunion?”
She nodded.
“Attending as well?”
She shot him a humorous glare. “Do I look like I’m thirty years old?”
Jonah let out a bark of laughter. “I stepped right into the ageism trap, didn’t I?” And on another chuckle he added, “I honestly have no idea how a beautiful thirty year old woman looks like, but in all fairness I did want to add, you looked too young to be part of the reunion.”
With a giggle she responded instantly. “Liar.”
“A fine specimen of a liar, though, right?”
Blush crept up her cheeks and amusement tugged at his lips. He studied her face, studied her beautiful green eyes looking at him, the few freckles on her nose telling him he didn’t wear any or very little make up, and her light pink lips which still held a smile.
“Okay, we’ve established you’re too young to attend the reunion. Honestly I’m too scared to ask in case I overstep another –ism along the way.”
She gave him a gentle slap on his chest. “I’m helping Dad’s friend. She’s overseeing all the arrangements.”

“Okay,” she blurted. “I’m done with silence. Tell me, I can hear an accent. New Zealand.”
He cocked a brow.
“Well it’s there but at the same time it’s not.”
A soft chuckle escaped his lips, and although she tried hard to ignore it, she had to admit it affected the very core of her body. Everything was alert. She studied him through the dim light. It hadn’t been a lie when she described him as a nice specimen of a man, because he really was. His amber eyes sparkled in the semi darkness and his mouth held some amusement. Considering his confident and calm posture she assumed the situation didn’t nearly have the same effect on him as it did on her.
She let out a soft sigh. “I won’t shut up, you know, because I’m starting to struggle a little here.”
With only a few smooth moves he stood, stepped next to her, and sat again. He reached for her hand and took it in both of his. “I was born here in Alinta Bay but once I’d finished Year 12 we moved to Dunedin in New Zealand.”
Hardly able to focus on his words, she stared at their hands. She took in a deep breath, fully aware that their bodies were merely touching, yet the heat off his body penetrated through her clothes.
“Are you all right?”
She blinked a couple of times. “Yes, of course. As in, no, I told you, I’m struggling. Anyway…” She lifted her head and studied his face from the close distance. “Are you here for the reunion?”

“I have to admit I’ve never heard of them, but then again, I have to also admit I wouldn’t have much of a clue when it comes to African tribes. Sorry.”
She tilted her head and studied him. He was indeed a fine specimen of an adult. Very fine. With a bit of an accent. And some honesty.
“I don’t know much about them, either,” she admitted. “Just the part that I’m named after them. But,” she flashed him a smile, “the song is great, too.”
He hitched a shoulder. “I suppose if you like this kind of music.”
Maddie’s gaze went to the ceiling as she took a few deep breaths. This time because his response caused some irritation. Why had he mentioned the song in the first place? She closed her eyes and tried to think of something. Anything to keep her mind off the current situation she was in. She was going stir crazy.
“Okay,” she blurted. “I’m done with silence. Tell me, I can hear an accent. New Zealand?”

#SnippetSunday “Dad was into ethnology.” #ethnology #Sundayblog #freeread

Happy Sunday. I’m continuing with my WIP, another Alinta Bay story. Jonah and Maddie are still stuck in the lift. I moved into Maddie’s POV today.

Maddie blew out a long sigh. The comment had followed her most of her life with her parents’ generation, very rare though from someone her age. She liked her name, of course she did, because her parents had put a lot of thoughts into it. Yet, they had probably never thought about the song with the same title.
She met his gaze. “No. Dad was into ethnology.” His blank stare told her he had no idea what she was talking about. “Which part are you having trouble with? Ethnology or the connection to the name?”
He choked back a snort, why, she had no idea. For some reason, she wasn’t able to read him, figure him out, and considering she was going to spend the next half an hour with him in this small space, she should. She took a deep breath, questioning her logic. Why should she? She’d probably wouldn’t see him again and this was reality, not a movie.
“The connection,” he finally explained.
“Mandinka is a tribe in Africa. Dad wrote final studies on them at University.”
“I have to admit I’ve never heard of them, but then again, I have to also admit I wouldn’t have much of a clue when it comes to African tribes. Sorry.”

#SnippetSunday “Breathe easy, don’t panic…” #love #Sundayblog #freeread

Happy Sunday. I’m continuing with my WIP, another Alinta Bay story. Jonah and Maddie are still stuck in the lift.
Enjoy ♥

There was a moment of silence before the static voice replied, “No Jack here, Maddie. Are you sure he works with us?”
Jonah wasn’t able to hold back his laugh at her referral to the same movie again, and Maddie shook her head with some amusement as well.
“Never mind.” There was some resignation in her words, but she still had a smile on her lips.
“Guys, I’ll switch off, but as soon as I have an update I’ll let you know. Breathe easy, don’t panic, we’ll get you out of there soon.”
Jonah nodded, rubbed his hands over his face. He was fine. He was used to confined space, after all as a diver he did that all the time, yet he was also aware how quickly people could change in stress situations.
Maddie pulled out her phone again, holding it up.
“No signal?”
She shook her head and slid down into a sitting position again.
And so did he. “So Mandinka. Named after the eighties hit?”

#SnippetSunday “Never been big on exercises.” #love #Sundayblog #freeread

Happy Sunday. I’ve moved on from my Tassie story and would like to introduce you to yet another Alinta Bay couple. Jonah and Maddie, who are still stuck in the lift.
Enjoy ♥

Jonah gave her a wink. “Let’s tackle the task together.”
A smile spread across her flushed face. They both stepped to the doors, trying to grip the doors on each side as best as possible.
“Okay,” he said. “One, two, three.”
Both put some effort in pulling the doors apart but to no avail. Placing his hands on his knees, he took a few breaths to steady himself as he watched Maddie slide along the wall into a sitting position.
“You okay?”
She nodded. “Never been big on exercises.”
Letting out a soft laugh, he turned to the panel. “Mate, you’re still there.”
“Wouldn’t dare to leave you.”
“No luck on the doors I’m afraid.”
Again, the connection was iffy with static and only broken words coming through, but Jonah got the gist of it.
“I’ve sent a team over. They should be there in fifteen minutes. Will you two be okay?”
“Could you please send Jack? I’m sure he is able to get us out of here.” Maddie asked as she rose back to her feet.

“Not sure why he wouldn’t be, but, yes, he’s a fine specimen of an adult.”
“May I talk to him?”
Maddie turned to look at Jonah with raised brows. He hitched a shoulder in question as well, but moved closer to the panel again.
“I’m here.”
“Thanks. Could you try to open the doors?”
Jonah cocked a brow, but before he could reply, Maddie piped up, “You do know this is sexism, right? You could have asked me that too.”
Out of all people, he had to be stuck in a lift with a person who walked the path of political correctness. Yet, Jonah remained silent, he wouldn’t dare to step into that conversation. Instead, he moved his hand to point at the doors. “Be my guest.”
There was some static noise from the panel. “Maddie, it has nothing to do with sexism but with the fact that I needed to talk to Jonah as well. It’s not just about finding out what can be done but also what your state of mind is.”
She blew out a massive sigh and slouched her shoulders. “I know you’re right and I do apologise. I just feel so helpless.”
Jonah gave her a wink. “Let’s tackle the task together.”

#SnippetSunday “Yes, it’s just the two of us” #Sundayblog #love #freeread

Happy Sunday. I’ve moved on from my Tassie story and would like to introduce you to yet another Alinta Bay couple. Jonah and Maddie.
Enjoy ♥

“Thanks. What is your name Ma’am?”
“I’m Maddie. Actually, it’s Mandika, but everyone calls me Maddie. Maddie Torres. And we’re stuck in a lift. In Alinta Bay. That’s in Victoria.”
Jonah cocked a brow, crossed his arms, and despite the situation they were in, a touch of amusement tugged at his lips.
“The two of you and nobody else?”
Jonah was certain the security guy had to hold back on his mirth as well.
Maddie’s forehead creased into a frown and she shot Jonah a glare that took all of his amusement in an instant. Focussing on the panel again, she replied, “Yes, it’s just the two of us. Isn’t that enough.”
“Apologies, Ma’am. It most certainly is.”
She rolled her eyes, but remained silent.
“Could you tell me whether the light is still on?”
She blinked, and he had to admit, he didn’t see the point to the question either. He gave her a shrug, but with a little nod encourage her to answer.
“It’s basically dark, except for a dim light.”
“Thanks,” the electronic voice said. “May I ask if Jonah is an adult?”
Turning towards him, she took him in, very slowly, and yes, it was close to awkward. “Not sure why he wouldn’t be, but yes, he’s a fine specimen of an adult.”
