Her peaceful existence, however, is interrupted after a heavy storm floods her house and she temporarily moves into her recently deceased neighbour’s house next door.

He’s conflicted when he sees her back in town and tries his best to see the change in her that other friends mention. Even more so when spending a night with her after being set up for a dinner date.

Life hasn’t been kind to Melody Foster, and she returns to Alinta Bay for a new beginning. Hit by tragedy again, she’s determined to live life to the fullest and with no regrets. She creates a bucket list … on which #8 the very difficult, yet extremely sexy Harrison has been included. Why does it seem he’s always around when she’s in trouble?

Maybe it’s time to take a risk and leave the past where it belongs, but will trusting their instinct be the right choice for them?

Karen nodded. “Terrible. Just terrible.” She paused and leaned back in her chair. “Yes, we’d like to go ahead with the contract. We assume by the time you’ll have set up the business in Queenstown, it will be out of the news.”

Mat’s stomach squeezed. How he hated this side of business. If this hadn’t meant a big opportunity for him and Adam, he’d have cancelled the whole meeting. Bugger the money. But he wanted to move back to Queenstown and the contract would give him the finances to set up an office in his hometown.

Karen reached for her cup of coffee. “Tell me about you and your partner.”

He leaned back into the chair and crossed his legs. It was his favourite subject. “Adam and I started our helicopter business five years ago in Fox Glacier. It was simple as we liked the idea of doing what we loved every day and meeting people from all over the world at the same time. Now we fly hundreds of tourists to the summit of the glacier or hunters and hikers to inaccessible huts on the top of the mountains.”

When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories of the past return to haunt her. She calls her friend Steve for help, only to be surprised by the voice of a stranger on the other end of the line. She never anticipates the impact this New Zealander is going to have on her life, even more so when she becomes the victim of an assault just a few hours later.

Mat Apanui, owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can hear the urgency and despair in Tiffany’s voice. They have never met before, but he feels compelled to help her. After an assault on her, he invites her to travel with him to his home in Queenstown, New Zealand, where he believes he can provide her with the temporary safety and security she needs until the situation is resolved.

But can Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust a stranger like Mat enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

when we travelled through five States in a motorhome a few years ago.

 Enjoy ♥♥

This week’s Hook …

“Mate, what on earth is PedXing?”

The guy chuckled. “Short for pedestrian crossing,” he replied.

Jared let out a snort. “Yeah, I don’t think I would’ve guessed that one. I’m glad they told me to look for RV and not Caravan Park.”

With a little shake of his head, he waved his hand as a thanks and left, still chuckling about the PedXings abbreviation. A country speaking the same language and more or less having the same background, yet, being so different surprised him. But why? Why did it? After all, it’d been over two hundred years that each country had evolved in a different way.

Jared returned to his motorhome, drove to his allocated spot, and got ready for the night. It’d been a full, packed twenty-four hours, leaving him exhausted and tired. He was going to explore Sin City the next day.

Blurb:

Jared Fraser from Hobart, Australia, embarks on a journey in a motorhome down the legendary American Route 66. Yet, his travels take a couple of unexpected turns from his initial plans. Most of the places he knew, although he’d never been there, and he wondered whether Karen had.

“Nice meeting you, Mat.”

He shook Karen’s hand and was surprised by her firm grip. “Likewise.”

As they sat, he studied her small frame, her short wavy grey hair, and soft blue eyes. He assumed her to be in her mid to late fifties. Her complexion was honey brown with not even a small blemish on her skin, but a few lines around her eyes.

Her assistant brought some coffee and biscuits.

“You’ve brought the cold weather to Melbourne,” Karen said, as she poured herself some coffee. Pointing to his take-a-way coffee cup, she asked, “Would you like a fill-up?”

“I’m right, thanks,” he replied, ignoring her swipe at the weather. Mat emptied his cup of coffee with one long sip before he placed it on the table. “Are you still going ahead with the contract?”

He was referring to the nasty incident a week earlier with a helicopter crash in the mountains. It’d been a big blow for the small communities of Fox and Franz Josef Glacier.

Hi everyone –

This week’s Hook …

Once he arrived at the rental place, he went through the procedure of checking the motorhome, filling out papers, getting acquainted with the steering wheel on the left side instead of the right, and adding the first stop to the GPS.

Las Vegas.

Following the GPS wasn’t all that hard, and Jared made it out of Los Angeles alive and in one piece. Somewhere close to San Bernardino, he stopped to stock up on food and then made his way up through the San Bernardino National Forest towards Vegas. It was going to be a long drive on the first day, but he was sure he’d make it. He tilted his head, working a kink out of his neck and occasionally rubbed the tiredness out of his eyes with the palm of his hand, but the excitement of driving through America for four weeks in the little motorhome kept him wide awake in anticipation.

The library staff had provided him with piles of books and website addresses to find out where to go and what to see. Vegas hadn’t been on many of those lists but had always been mentioned as You’re there, you might as well go and have a look. And that was what he was going to do. He drove along, humming along to the American country music blaring from the radio. There wasn’t much to see in this vast part of California. The land was barren and dusty, with mountains clearly visible in the distance. The colour play of the blue sky, brown land, and patches of green, all highlighted by the sun. Although unchanging, the scenery kept him interested. Yet, Jared was pleased when he finally made it to Vegas later that afternoon, and after driving around a little to get an idea of the city, he found an RV Park, and checked in. About to exit through the office door, he turned and asked the man who had served him, “Mate, what on earth is PedXing?”

I’ve been sharing snippets from THEIR BOND THROUGH JADE, a story set in Australia and New Zealand. This snippet is Mat’s POV.

Today’s Snippet

Mat disconnected the call, placed the cup of coffee on the top of the car, and tried to re-program the direction to his meeting place in his phone. How he missed Queenstown at that moment. With probably a mere tenth of Melbourne’s population, navigation was easy, only hampered sometimes by tourists who drove on the wrong side of the road or who were simply lost.

He thought of Steve’s comment about Tiffany’s rough year. Worry shot through him, and he wished he’d copied her number to his phone.

The sound of her voice still played in his head. A tone that stoked angst and concern.

Exhaling a long breath, Mat focussed back to the problem at hand, got into the car, and listened to the GPS directions — as well as following them. Thankfully, within half an hour he found himself in an office opposite Karen Young, the representative of an Australian travel agency.

A few months earlier, Mat had lost the coin toss between him and his partner Adam, and it was now he who was in Melbourne trying to negotiate a deal with Karen. Mat was interested in including his helicopter flights as part of a travel package for tourists in Queenstown, his hometown. He stepped into her small office, instantly overcome by some mild claustrophobia when he saw a small window with no view, but showing the walls of the building next door. Inhaling a breath, he forced himself to take in the rest of the well-decorated office, with framed photos from all over the world.

Including his beloved Queenstown.

This week’s Hook …

“Mate, I’m closer to forty than I am to thirty. One would think I can look after myself,” he’d said.

Sophie had laughed, but his friend hadn’t been convinced at all. Jared had packed Mark’s list with phone numbers, internet addresses, and the lot, but wasn’t sure whether the list had been packed in the bag which had been left at home, because, at the last minute, he’d decided to travel light.

Jared looked out the window towards the sky. Yet, it wasn’t like the sky he was used to at home. It looked a bit like Hobart’s sky on a hot summer’s day with a nasty front approaching, with a fire in the distance, and the smoke still lingering.

He’d asked the taxi driver to get him to the motorhome company in Hawthorne. His mouth curved at the idea of having flown over the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn, without the ‘e’, twenty-four hours earlier, only to end up in a place called Hawthorne again. The drive was surprisingly short and pleasant. The traffic he had expected wasn’t there, but nonetheless he stared in amazement at the number of lanes on the freeway. There were four on each side. And they still had traffic jams! His tired eyes took in the surroundings, the suburbs, the houses, and the many things that were so similar to Australia — yet so different.

#BookTour “Those We Trust” by @mariejones14057 @SDBookTours #RomanticThriller #Suspense

While seeking safe haven at a friend’s home in Scotland, a troubled young computer programmer finds herself implicated in a fraud scheme she took no part in. She soon finds herself swept up in the case and falling for the detective assigned to investigate her.

Book 1
by Marie Jones

Broken and humiliated by her husband of ten years leaving her unexpectedly, Sophia Meadows muddles through her daily routine—writing computer programs and rarely leaving the house. That is, until an old friend from university shows up on her door with an offer she can’t refuse: a chance to get away and heal in the Scottish Highlands of Inverness by flat-sitting. Yet once she arrives, she soon discovers the offer is not what she bargained for: A police surveillance team is watching her every move and a mysterious man is after the contents of a safe hidden in a wall. After a break-in at the apartment, her path collides with DI Marcus Armstrong, the man in charge of the apartment surveillance. Sophia is swept into an investigation of fraud involving her university friend and into a sudden attraction with the handsome DI who finds himself drawn to her even though she’s a suspect in his case. With evidence piling up against her and her friend and the attraction between her and Marcus growing stronger, Sophia is forced to confront her broken heart and find a way to clear her name. In a tangled web of secrets and clues, can she and the DI work through their attraction and learn to trust each other in time to stop a criminal and possibly save a life?

***5 Star Recipient from Readers Favorite!!! ***

Those We Trust by Marie Jones is a romantic crime thriller that is both refreshing and riveting. The plot was quite unusual but realistic and unique. I loved the character development as it was perfect. Aneella was less the prey and more of a predator as far as I’m concerned. This book taught me that it’s not mandatory to hold on to some friendships. If people show us who they are, it’s in our best interests to believe them instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt. There is a hidden depth to humans that we can’t fathom.

We should learn to put our foot down because that may be our saving grace. Marie is a gifted storyteller who has written a captivating book. The writing was stylish, and the book was easy to follow. I eagerly await the sequel!

Those We Seek

Those We Trust Book 2

I thought the darkness could no longer touch me.
I was wrong.

Still carrying the physical and mental scars following the brutal stabbing from her ex-husband, Richard, Sophia is struggling to put the attack behind her. On top of that, Richard remains on the loose, with her now husband, Marcus, desperate to catch him and bring down the fraud ring, whilst her former best friend, Aneella, awaits trial. When Richard contacts her demanding to meet, and Aneella refuses to confess to anyone but her, can Sophia find the strength and courage within her to face her betrayers and protect the man she loves, no matter what the cost?

Be swept up once more in the beautiful, haunting Scottish Highlands as the story of Marcus and Sophia continues in this powerful follow on story…

***Reviewed by Pikasho Deka for Readers’ Favorite***

Those We Seek is the second book of Marie Jones’ thrilling romance series, Those We Trust. Months after her ex-husband’s brutal knife attack, Sophia Armstrong struggles with PTSD from her harrowing experience. Meanwhile, her detective inspector husband Marcus is determined to locate Richard and the other members of his fraud ring. In prison, Sophia’s former friend-turned-foe, Aneella, refuses to talk to anyone other than Sophia. After much coaxing, Sophia convinces Aneella to attend her father’s funeral to draw out her criminal associates. But things don’t go according to plan, and soon Sophia finds herself entangled in the clutches of Richard’s schemes again. However, a dogmatic Marcus is determined to bring Richard to justice, only to find himself in a precarious situation. Will Sophia and Marcus be able to get out of Richard’s trap?

With a swirling mix of romance, suspense, and nail-biting thrills, Marie Jones weaves a gripping story you don’t want to end. Those We Seek is a stellar addition to the series, and it continues Sophia and Marcus’ story as they try to navigate the circumstances Sophia’s ruthless ex-husband, Richard, put them in. The characters are well-fleshed-out, which makes them easy to relate to. Sophia and Marcus’ relationship underlines the sleuth mystery narrative throughout the book. Jones makes you feel for even the secondary characters and gives them minor plot threads, such as Tom. The plot moves at a brisk pace, with a number of unexpected twists and turns. This is a treat for romance and thriller lovers.
