Today’s Snippet

Katie looked sensational in her strapless dress, but so did Teagan, her friend. Yet, Markus almost lost his breath when his gaze fell on Sarah. He’d known her for as long as he could remember. Of course, he was aware how attractive she was. After all, he wasn’t blind. But today she looked stunning. Katie had tried to explain to him that the bridesmaid dresses were of the colour pale peach with a high neck but shoulder free, a ruched bodice with a layered skirt. He’d had no idea, but now that he saw Sarah wearing the dress, he had to compliment Katie on choosing such a perfect outfit for the girls. They both looked spectacular.

The hairdresser had also done a brilliant job getting Sarah’s wavy dark hair under control, and the make-up, in his judgement as a guy, was spot on, emphasising her beautiful chocolate brown eyes.

Cailyn stole the show, though. Ty’s little niece led the bridal party looking like a little angel in her cream, sleeveless dress, which had a delicate lace top and a tulle skirt. She walked down the aisle while dropping rose petals from a small basket.

Katie took Tyson’s arm, and the minister began the service with a prayer. The ceremony was brief, and Markus stepped forward with the small box holding the rings for the exchange. Emotions like pride and happiness for his friend shot through him, as well as a twinge of envy over his friend’s relationship.

NEW RELEASE

defining moments

by Iris Blobel

When he’d been to see his first baseball game as a kid in Los Angeles, all he’d wanted was to play as well. Once he’d been on the field for the first time, he’d known he was born to pitch.

He let the water heat before stepping under the spray, lifting his face to the mist. With his eyes shut, he succumbed to the seduction the water brought as it ran over his body, and fatigue spread through him. The water cascaded over his head, relaxing his mind and body, and Oliver opened his eyes again. He fixed his gaze on the tile wall before him, and out of all people, Tamara’s image popped into his mind. Why had she ignored his hand? Had she snubbed him or was there more to her story?

BLURB

Women want him and he wants them…

Pitcher Oliver Dempsey loves playing baseball for a living, yet, when it comes to his private life, ‘love’ is not in his vocabulary. He likes to keep women at an arm’s length … until he meets Tamara. Unprepared for the attraction he feels towards her, he’s drawn in, even more when told by his coach that she’s off limits. And only Oliver can decide whether she’s worth fighting for.

Tamara Amis moved to Melbourne seeking distance from her past. With the help of her uncle, the coach of a baseball club, she quickly finds a job and a place to live. Yet, one meeting with the handsome pitcher Oliver stirs unexpected emotions that threaten to overwhelm her, despite her best efforts to resist falling for him.

It’s Oliver’s injury that brings them together, but as they find out about each other’s pasts, how can they be ready to share a future?

Oliver rushed into the room. “Sorry for that.”

“You will be. Trust me, I’ll think of something to muck up your wedding day, too.”

Oliver snorted, but didn’t reply. They looked up when a gentle knock at the door interrupted their conversation and the minister peeked in. “Ready?”

The guys high-fived each other. “Let’s do this,” Tyson said, with a determination that brought another smile to Markus’ face.

They followed the minister into the church and stood in a line in front of the altar. The hushed voices stopped more or less instantly.

The Church of St John’s was packed to the last seat. Markus saw a few familiar faces, like his family, Ty and Oliver’s families, Ty’s football mates and friends, and of course Katie’s mum, family, and friends. He wrung his hands and, just to be a hundred percent certain, he searched his pocket for the rings again, juggling the box at the first note of the loud organ. Everyone in church stilled, and the three friends turned to face the entrance watching the bride walk down the aisle with her father.

defining moments

As soon as he got to the locker room, he peeled off his T-shirt. Instant pain shot through him as he lifted his right shoulder. He’d been ignoring the twinge during the training session, but he knew he had to have it checked out. The stupid skateboard rider had nearly run him over when he came out of nowhere the previous day. Oliver hadn’t had a chance to move out of the way fast enough and had slammed his shoulder into a post.

Slowly, he stripped out of his track pants and sat on the bench. He grabbed a can of cola out of his bag, chugging down half of the drink as he enjoyed the quietness around him. Everyone else was still out on the field, eager to please Coach Becker. Oliver choked back a laugh, hoping his mates would put Erik in a better mood than he had. The club had a few important games over the next few weeks before the season ended, and for the first time in years they were doing well. He stood and walked to the showers, replaying his training session in his head, unsure whether his shoulder was to blame for the bad hits, or his lack of training. But who was he kidding? He always liked to throw everything he had at people, yet on the flipside he was useless in receiving anything thrown at him. That didn’t just apply to his baseball game but also his life.

Grabbing his phone, Markus flicked through a few names and dialled Oliver’s number. “Where are you?” he asked when his friend answered the call.

“Give me five minutes.”

Markus raised his brows. “The groom’s having a hard time settling his nerves.”

Oliver let out a bark of laughter. “It’s his wedding day. Yeah, I’d be a little restless too. Do you have the rings? Katie will kill you, if you don’t.”

Although sure he did, panic rose within Markus as he rummaged through his pockets to retrieve the small box. “Yes, all good.”

“Okay,” Oliver replied. “See you in five.”

He hung up and gave Tyson, who was still pacing, a reassuring smile.

“Where the hell is he?”

“Wouldn’t say,” he said with a lift of his shoulder in a quick shrug.

“What do you mean he wouldn’t say?” Tyson shot him a glare. “You have the rings, right?”

Markus nodded.
